My daughter is renting her violin from Austin Strings and they have been amazing. From tuning to repairs they go above and beyond to ensure we're ready in time for the next lesson. We greatly appreciate all they do.

Such friendly people. I couldn’t make it earlier in the day because of work but Derek made me feel so comfortable coming in before they closed. He got my violin fixed and tuned SO QUICKLY! Brieann also took her time to play different violins and bows to help me decide which one I wanted to rent. Truly a phenomenal experience.

Derick, Breanna, Michelle quickly worked to fulfill my multiple requests. The environment was so fun and friendly! 100% would recommend visiting here.

Props to Derick for adjusting the sound post, and doing a tonal adjustment & hard string replacement.

Derek returned my call about a string repair within minutes, was cheerful and welcoming when I came in, and very efficient. Great experience, with easy parking.

Best string shop around. Derek helped repair my sound post and bridge and my violin sounds like new.

Also got bow re-haired and great advise on trying a new rosin.

Visited about a month ago and just forgot to write a review. I want to start by saying that I had no idea what I was walking into when I got there. I had only rented instruments through my school and felt like I wouldn’t have a clue and make a fool of myself. I have never been more happily proven wrong. Every employee there made me feel incredibly welcome (which is unusual considering the typical pretentious behavior regarding string instruments) and talked me through every step of the way. They explained what my best options were, helped me get everything I needed, and just made me so excited to be renting my own instrument. They all were incredible musicians of their own and shared the same passion for strings. One even helped me carry my big old bass to the car: ’). Employees aside, walking into the shop made me feel like a little kid on Christmas. It’s beyond beautiful. Every single instrument has its own soul and is worth being played. 100% recommend to anyone currently in the market for a string instrument. Thank you Austin strings <3!

I came here to get a violin restrung and bow rehaired after my parents found my old childhood violin. I had no idea what to expect since I stopped playing a long time ago, but Russell and Derek were so helpful! I was completely out of my element, but they explained everything patiently and I felt so welcomed and at ease after talking to them.

When I said that a friend was going to use the violin to help her little sister practice, Russell mentioned that they have bright colors for bow hair! I chose purple hair and was so excited even though I'm not even the one playing the violin. I wish it had been an option back when I played!

Our relationship with Austin Strings started last year when my daughter desperately needed a Double Bass fit for an advanced player like her. Absolutely no one in the greater Austin area had the size she needed until Austin Strings stepped in. They called me back and thankfully had a new one they were willing to lease to us- a beautiful core symphony double bass! It’s in pristine condition with a beautiful German bow that my daughter absolutely loves.

When we needed to get a few things repaired, their Luthier, Derrick, was a huge help. It’s competition season so I was worried we wouldn’t get the instrument back right away. But not only did we get the repairs done, it was done within a day! He recommended new strings and I’m glad we listened because it sounds so full and robust now. Their expertise cannot be overstated. They definitely know what they’re talking about.

They have a variety of string instruments and bows for sale and for lease. I highly recommend Austin Strings!

We came to this shop to rent an instrument for a first-time violin user. Briaen and the rest of the shop patrons were incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind in explaining everything to my 7 year old. The entire atmosphere was warm, patient, educational, and especially excited to have someone taking this new journey. I know my daughter was nervous; everyone made her feel only excitement over the experience. I cannot be more thankful for that. Additionally, the rental plan is financially friendly and manageable for most families. We will absolutely continue using the shop, hopefully for years to come!

Ok this review is special just for Derek, since we decided it was time!:)
We went in today for strings for my daughter like normal, but as always we're welcomed like family. They always remember us, and make us feel right at home.
Russell always pays special attention to the sound and look of the violin when changing out the strings just to make sure everything is just right.
Russell had noticed my daughter's sound of her violin was a little off and had Derek take a look and it did need a new sound post and he did it so FAST-and that needs to be noted because that is the whole point of this review! Haha.
Can't leave out Bree-she's always so helpful and knowledgeable with everything in the shop. I believe she was actually one of the first to help us when we walked in years ago.
I'm not a musician but always wanted my children to play and there are things that Austin Strings has done over the years to help my children be successful players. Simple things such as how to even put on the shoulder rest correctly, loosen your bow, etc. Things that I don't know about because I'm not a musician but things that my children needed to learn at a young age. It's even stuck with them and my daughter brought it up today even, she mentioned learning to put her shoulder rest on and was describing remembering the look of the shop before and what not.
Also want to recognize a new member of the team Seth, he was sweet and was still learning the job but still very knowledgeable about things and very polite.
Today they even let my daughter get a little nostalgia with a tiny violin session!
Overall, I can't say enough great things about this place, been a great place to rent and buy a stringed instrument! Don't even bother going anywhere else!

In addition, they also took great care in picking the appropriate case and adding various straps for him to try. They also gave him a fair trade in value on his current viola and bow which he had outgrown.
