Bastrop State Park reviews
16We love this park, but the mountain ceder was horrible for my allergies. Still recovering. Maybe spring would be better for those with ceder fever.
One of the nicer parks. Heard about the fire years ago. Wanted to see the pines and check on their progress. By the way the office closes early. 4: 30.
Nice place for a hike, but don't be deceived by the seeming simplicity of the trails. The red trail especially will make you sweat a bit because of those inclines and direct sunlight. Its fascinating to see all the new growth combined with all the remaining fire damage from 2011. As is par for the course in Texas keep your eyes open for LOTS of fire ants and some lizards and other critters. The scenic overlook does have a lovely panoramic view so stop by there before leaving the park. Theres not water access on the trails so arrive fully stocked and pace yourself. Some of the trail markers were damaged or unclear, but the guard shack will provide trail maps on request or you can get them from the website. Admission prices just to hike for the day were $5 per adult and kids under 12 are free, which seems pretty standard for a TX state park.
I want to give it 5 stars but the sounds from 71 were too loud for me in a tent. I will probably camp in the piney hill camp area next time I go back because it is higher up. The facilities are EXCELLENT! The staff is fantastic. The hiking is great and it is awesome to see the adolescent trees growing back. They do a great job keeping the park clean.
As usual, TX Parks and Wildlife does a fantastic job of running and maintaining this Park. Facilities are beautiful, personal are great. Big fire 10 years ago, which makes some of the views less than perfect. Highway can be seen and heard from much of the Park, but in another 10 years, the loblolly's will be helping with that.
Love the cabins/barracks. The trails arent covered so it was super hot when we went. They have a dining hall for large groups. The pool was closed we camped to far to go fishing but it was great
TPWD does a great job with the park system. Love this park and all the trails. New dam under construction will be completed soon with a great small lake.
Nice park. Plenty full hookup pull through sites, tent camping area and cabins. Nice pool and playground. Great place to ride bikes and hike.
I really enjoyed a camping trip with the family. The property is very well taken care of, and the bathrooms have recently been updated. Thankfully, they were heated, which made for a nice relief after a cold night.
We had our family reunion here, in the hall near the swimming pool and the place was clean, nice and cool, the air conditioning was fabulous for the 100° heat we experienced yesterday, there was plenty of room for everyone and it was a great time had by all, a very wonderful experience all around
This park was not was busy when we went for Labor Day. My kids enjoyed themselves and so did my husband and I. The only regret we had was that we didn't pack a picnic. We also drove the winding back road to Buecher park that connected the two to get the kids a nice scenic drive. We would definitely go back.
Well taken care of facilities and trails. If you have pets be careful of all the stickers in the grass. Otherwise all around solid park
Be sure to stop and get your windshield tag. The yearly State Parks Pass is the best deal for those who visit State Parks often. Always grab a map too because it will show any closed trails or roads. Visit the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) department website for more information about each park.
Man this hike was long and challenging. It was well worth it for the views though. I would recommend that you pack plenty of cold water and snacks if you go on the long loop around.
Great state park and full hookups! The park is very clean and all the sites are well maintained. Definitely going back!
