Big Creek Scenic Area reviews
18Beautiful scenery but not a whole lot around to do. It's nice being close to the lake though.
Beautiful and peaceful. If you visit please take your trash home with you and leave the trails nice for the next visitor.
I only scratched the surface, because I was just doing a short day trip from Houston (alone). Beautiful and away from the city. It’s very quiet here, except the airplanes.:). I can’t wait to come back for the long hike.
Nice little free place to go on a hike. Took our dogs and they had a great time. Met several other hikers with dogs on the trail.
Great trail. Pack 845 went on Big Creek Trail and it was great weather! We loved it and will return! We brought a bag to clean up after others and ourselves!
This is a peaceful, siren, and well kept park. It's good for elderly people or a romantic walk. Don't expect here any spectacular heart stopping views.
It could have been a really nice scenic walk but the horse/deer flies were insane. It seemed like every 20 feet three more would start to follow.
The trails were pretty well maintained. A few areas where trees were down turned. If it wasn't for the flies we probably would have tried to move them out of the path. The entire loop had tree coverage for shade. There is no outhouse/bathroom at the rest area
The just over an hour-long drive from the Energy Corridor to the Big Creek Scenic Area is worth the trip. There are few times have I been out there that there were no more than one or two other groups on the trail, and given how big the area is, there is little other than the occasional jetliner overhead that disturbs the peace. The trails are well maintained, though you may have to step over a fallen tree here or there. Otherwise, it makes for an easy and relaxing hike through beautiful scenery. I have taken my step-kids out there a couple of times, and they loved it. I will say that if you do bring your kids, look at the map near the parking area. You may want to consider making the loop using the White Oak trail, as the Big Creek trail adds a significant amount more hiking and may not hold their interest as much as it veers away from the creek (despite its name). If, like me, you decide to go alone, it's best to let someone know where you are going. There is VERY little to no cellphone reception, and there have been times when I was out there that there was no one else on the trail, so it's best to be safe. You will have to take a dirt road to get to the parking area, but it's always leveled and an easy drive. All in all, I love it out there and always look forward to my next visit.
Great little starting point on the trail where you can go and hike in and find a spot to camp. I love this part of the park because it's quiet but not too remote.
Another great hike the kids loved the creek next to the hike. Will be coming back to try other trails.
Great hiking area! The trails are clean but not so easy that you don't feel like you are out in the wilderness.
Nice trail with some short little hikes. Definitely some pretty scenery, but the trails could use a little attention. We enjoyed our time here, very quiet and peaceful.
Great place off the beaten path for a walk in woods or to read amongst the trees. Peaceful and quiet
Nice trail loop but, not sure how they named it Big Creek when it's quite small. I spent about 1hr 30m exploring and walking around but depending on your pace that is subject to change.
What a great hike. The trails were very well marked. We were able to see all the fresh leaves.
The trails are fairly well-marked and the signage is great. You have a good choice of different trails to explore. The woods are serene and a great place to go for a low-impact hike.
Scenic Area? Wooded parking lot. BUT 3 or 4 trails that are tied in to the lone star hiking trail. Various short lengths through primitive piney woods over wood bridges along "big creek" a couple of the bridges looked suspect but were passable. Great walk on a morning just north of the 30's in March.
