I am answering anonymously, but I am an eigth grader that went to this school for 3 years. I am a part of the math and science team in this school, and I encourage that you join as well. From my experience, the other comments here about biases of the teachers are very true, but it is getting better. Just make sure to change your schedile early on if you feel uncomfortable with your teachers. However, the teachers will not mind if you do your wok and stay quiet. Of course, some biased teachers allow only some students to be loud and excited, but to stay safe, be quiet and respectful. I have been biased against and alsely accused before in 6th grade, when one teacher called me out for harming a classmate when I did not. I will keep that teacher confidential for privacy reasons. As for the cafeteria food, the prices are high, and the quality and amount of food is very low. That is true. Although vandeventer is competitive, you will make it through if you are serious about school. NJHS is very easy to make, if you study, do your homework, and understand the subject. If you don;t understand, ask the teacher. If they are biased, they would still answer. If not, change your schedule or report them. A quick note about health: the investment grade system is difficult. I suggest going to the teacher without the investment grades, since they are very difficult to raise. Those grades basically change about how "nice" you are to others and the teachers. Just act as good as you can when the teacher is around. The teacher says she gets reports from other teachers if they see you doing something nice, but your good actions outside of her sight do not get counted at all. Investment grades also go down if anyone in class acts up, so they are not controllable to an extent. Once again, I highly highly highly suggest that you go to the teacher without investment grades. It will be much easier to score high in the high school course. Also remeber: for high school courses, do them in 8th. You will be more serious about them then. And also, getting an 85 or lower is not OK. The society there has come to feel proud of one, but you should feel pride at least above that. For GT, it is different, since getting high scores on that is difficult. Also note that high school courses count forcolege, so take them seriously and prioritize them first. Also, join clubs so school is not as boring as many take it to be. I would recommend: orchestra, robotics (7th), math and science, pentathlon, and Spanish.
There are faults and benefits, so I rate this school a 3.

Eh.could be better, some teachers target students they don't like and that gets me mad.lunch food could be better, sometimes undercooked, once found metal shavings and hair in my food (no joke 100% serious) and that got me a bit sacred.some teachers are just lazy and give us lots of home work cause they don't want to teach the lesson themselves. Teachers usually just watch us and yell if we miss behave or talk.i've been here for 2 years and elective choices aren't the best.so all in all good school and education, but lunches could be better, and teachers could actually do their jobs.
*update* in my now final year here I can give a true outlook and advice to parents and students thinking on this school. The education here is great, and the kids are nice and usually friendly to one another. But there is bullying here, and not from the students. The teachers here are very rude and racist. Their bias towards certain races and attitude towards others is truly infuriating. Out of all of my 3 years only my ILA and elective teachers have been nice and not had a bias. The others are very racist and will judge you by your skin. To them all races are fine, but if they see a brown kid they think they are indian. I am middle eastern and not Indian but have received many hate comments and unnecessary call outs by teachers for thinking I am a race I’m not.and even teachers *chit chat* over students names and make fun of them during their Lunch breaks (they talked about my name once in 6 grade). This I’ve seen is most prominent in the 8 grade teachers. They are the MOST passive aggressive people I’ve ever met and if something bad happens they go to me for their first pick of suspects. Like a phone goes off I get questioned first, a non brown does something and I do it I get called out. Super unfair. This school is also VERY CHEAP, like imagine this, a school that has no color printer, requires students to buy the teachers supplies, buy the supplies for class wide assignments (candy and cookies) only to use a few and have the teacher eat the rest (8th grade science), and has to over crowd busses, causing a useless split, so the school can save on “fuel costs” cause a bus with one stop and few kids can’t drive 1 1/2 min to a stop that has many kids so cram them on one bus to save money and put those with few instead of more on a different bus later in the afternoon. The teachers also just get paid to scream at kids and stress them over with homework. So final verdict: the school has good educational value, but with only a very slim margin of not racist and non bias teachers, poor quality control in the food (metal and hair!), a hard to fit in atmosphere, rude principles and assistants, lazy teachers, and all in all bad feels make this school VERY hard to recommending to parents or students. Please look for other options for schools in the area, just skip this one.

This place is great! Went here for 3 years, great tennis team, great orchestra, great students and teachers. One thing for future sixth graders- you gotta be big and strong. There's a lot of people at this school-its OVERCROWDED. Advice- get into GT. The GT curriculum is great. Don't turn ANY work in late- it harms your grade a lot. I found that out the hard way.

Would rate 0 if I could. Worst school in history of all schools. Never attend. The teachers dont even care about how you do, all they want is the money.

10/10 love this school and the fun experience that I have there everyday. The tests are always exactly on what the review has. Cafeteria food is at another level. Shout out to Rohan Pariks for setting a great examples for upcoming students as well!

When I was here at this school, I had a terrible experience. I hardly made any friends there. They taught stuff that should have been taught in elementary school. The teachers could barely teach. Thankfully I moved, so I was only there for 3 months. Yes, this is all coming from a (thankful former) student. (I wish I could rate this 0 stars, but it wouldn't let me.)

So glad that this place keeps us safe with the dress code. I have no idea what i would do if i went to a school that let me show my shoulders! That would be extremely dangerous for me.i get worried just thinking about it.
