Bishop’s Palace reviews
19An amazing house. There is a ton of history to this well built house. Please take your time with the tour and enjoy everything.
I have always loved and admired this beautiful place. Its amazing inside. I have toured this place multiple times and I'm still amazed.
Incredible! Beautiful home, self paced tour, unless you go on certain days, then you get a guided tour and can see more of the home. Your money goes to restoration of the home. Loved it.
Excellent history, went shortly after they opened on a Monday and it was quite empty! Wish the air wasn't set so low though, we were both freezing.
It was a self guided tour. It was interesting, but I felt the $13.00 charge per person a little steep for viewing 2 floors of the house. There are quite a few steps to climb in the house.
It's an amazing experience to hear about the family history and the architecture is absolutely beautiful, hand carved, its a must see.
One of the most haunted places in Galveston, Texas. During 1900 a horrible hurricane wiped out 6000-8000 people but 200 people ran here for safety and survived. But guests today say they experience pushing and shoving from unseen hands…. Maybe some of the ghosts of people who didn’t quite make it through the hurricane.
WOW! What an awesome place. I can imagine myself living there as a kid. What a great place to play hide go seek. Realistically, it was the most awesome place I have ever been in. I could've visited all day. My hubby wished he could've seen the top floor. It's Off limits, though.
Self tour, but the employees at the gift shop were very polite and helpful. They give you this smart phone that explains what each room is and what they contain. Overall the design of the interior is beautiful, the outside is gorgeous as well.
Definitely worth a visit with the kids. Bishop’s Palace is a National Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It is also a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, a designation awarded by the Texas Historical Commission for historically and architecturally significant properties in the U. S.state of Texas.
Architectural historians list the Bishop’s Palace as one of the most significant of Victorian residences in the country. The American Institute of Architects has cited it as among America’s 100 most important buildings.
The home was built by Walter Gresham, a prominent lawyer and politician. It was one of the only structures that survived the Hurricane of 1900 in Galveston. After the hurricane, Mr. Gresham helped get state funds to help with building the seawall and the raising of the city by 16 feet.
It offers guided and self guided tours, has a visitor's center and staff.
The 1892 Bishop’s Palace and Galveston Historical Foundation offer teachers and students a large variety of TEKS aligned field trips focusing on history, math, and science.
Bishop's Palace is owned by the Galveston Historical Foundation which also owns the Galveston Historic Seaport, home to the Elissa. Incorporated in 1954, Galveston Historical Foundation is one of the nation's largest local preservation organizations.
Bishop's Palace is one of Galveston Island’s most visited historic attractions.
Excellent place to visit. Wonderful history and a lot of information. Beautiful historical building from Galveston's past.
The architecture is amazing, what an amazing home. Learned a lot and enjoyed the self guided tour so I could take my time.
We truly enjoyed the tour I would highly recommend if you are in the area and have the time stop by and take the tour you will l9ve it and the history behind it
Beautiful house and a good history destination. Be sure you can withstand heat during the summer, but I'm sure it's perfect in the fall.
This was a self guided tour. It was somewhat interesting, but confusing. The equipment was not user friendly. The stained glass windows were beautiful as was some of the decor. The ticket price was $14.00 per person. We had a coupon for a $1.00 off each. This was still not a good deal.
A small slice of heaven for those that love history architecture and mystery. What an amazing story that can be shared with people of all ages! If you're going to Galveston or live here now check out Bishop's Palace
To costly for self tour with a device that I could not figure out how to use. No top floor view that you think you're going to get and then find out it's not open
Always wanted to see the inside of this place. The stone and woodwork was incredible. An interesting experience and step back in time.
What a great museum to let you in on the rich history this small island of Galveston has! Beautiful architecture, design and innovative tour, Definitely recommend it!
