I’ve been coming to Brown Sugar Braids Kirby for ten years now, and Christine always does my hair and she is awesome. She is the greatest. The rest of the ladies are great also

Very fast professional and patient I came in there with braids that needed to be taken down a wash and new braids to be put in. And it was done! Thank you so much ️

I wish i could give this place zero stars. I will post the pictures and let you all see why! The Kirby location is trash. They got me twice. I promise there won’t be a 3rd time. The photos were taken at my salon right before my coworker took them down the next day.

Update: I was contacted by the owner of the salon after posting this review. She was very apologetic and asked me to come to one of her other locations (S. Main) to get my hair done right. And they did just that! I got the style i wanted and i will definitely be back to see Isabelle again. I am very pleased with my hair and the overall professionalism from the owner.

Brought my daughter here for knotless braids. They look beautiful and very neat! We were acknowledged as soon as we arrived. All of the ladies were very nice and professional. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

I was very disappointed with the Cullen location. The staff was LOUD, RUDE, tacky and very unprofessional. They spoke in their native tounge and ridiculed me the entire time I was there due to a minor customer service issue. They proceeded to take a unauthorized photograph of me and my hair and circulated it to other staff members. Be careful at this one ladies. BAD ATTITUDES and poor mouths. I’ve heard better things about the Kirby location.

Kirby location: They braided my hair twice and did a good job both times. That salon is CLEAN! If the owner is not cleaning she just finished cleaning! Great service, decent prices!

Price Changer! Record the original conversation because she will change the price and swear she told you. Then talk in her native language all day about it. LOL. 2 customers in one day can't be lying! One of the customers is a minister.

They can braid though!

These women have no idea what they are doing. I called ahead to check availability and was told I could come immediately, upon arriving they acted shocked I was there, proceeded to ask me barely audible questions about what I wanted. When I finally get to a chair, they quote me a price that keeps changing because they apparently don't know their individual prices. The girl proceeds to move me to the wash station, then back to chair, because says it would be better to blow dry my hair washing it and starts ripping into my head while piping burning air into the back of my neck. Then the manager finally comes over and tells her that she should have washed it first (meanwhile I am staring at a comb full of my hair that has been torn out), and tells me that they only take cash.

The saving grace of them giving me literally no information over the phone is that I had thr opportunity to get the hell out of there before they damaged my hair anymore.

Very sweet and fast! The price was average and I wasn’t charged for length. I would definitely refer customers.

Went there Saturday and the manager was great, also all the ladies when you walk in they greet you! You don't wait long it took 5 hours to do my kiki twist and I absolutely love them. So I recommend them. Great management great team thank you all

Went there today around noon got senegalese twist. The twist are absolutely beautiful. Took approximately 6 hrs. Brown Sugar is the best braiding shop. The braiders did a great job on my hair wasn't too tight at all. I will be a frequent customer for sure.

The lady's do a fantastic job. They take too long (8hrs) for 3 lady's, everytime I go, to do a style. Another place took 5hrs for 1 person to do the same style. Every style I get from them they, it seems as if they tell you a price from the top of their head. Every style I get they always $180.

I've been going to them for about two years. They are very friendly and they do a very good job on my braids. My only complaint is that sometimes when I make an appointment ahead of time, once I get there I still have to wait for them to get started on my hair because they always have a lot of customers. That can be a little annoying, but I put up with it because the quality of their work is really good.

This was my 1st time at this salon and I won't be going back. When I called Amy told me what type of hair to buy and how many bags I needed. Once I got there I was told that I had the wrong hair and that I could buy the hair from them.ok whatever I just wanted my hair braided. I got my hair braided a week ago tomorrow and I wanna pull these braids out. They are beautiful and very neatat the top bout the braids thin as the braid goes down plus I asked for a small medium size and they are large and extremely heavy. The middle is huge and I feel as if my brains were pulled out. It wasn't until I was done that my head begin to pound uncontrollably. I have been taking goodie extra strength since I got out the chair. And know that appointments don't matter, it's 1st come 1st serve and the price changes once they are half way done with your hair.

Majority of the "African hair braiders" today are Mediocre.
I'm from Memphis and have been getting my hair braided "professionally"
since I was a teen. Where I'm from, those women WORK hard on your hair,
i.e. 2 people doing your hair @ the same time, as to how the extension being
applied to your hair was undetectable. Meaning a kinky twist or senegalese twist
wasn't/didn't look "BRAIDED" at the root of the twist-as it shouldn't be!

Brown Sugar: The owner overbooks her shop, there were people showing up
every hour saying they had an appointment. But every chair was full. The braiders
were moving from head to head, leaving women sitting and waiting to get done. The
people with appointments had to wait 1hr+ to be seated in a chair. RIDICULOUS.
The owner shouldn't overbook her shop if she doesn't have the right amount of workers
to accommodate the demand. Plain and simple, she's "money HUNGRY" and doesn't
care how long her customers have to wait, as long as they wait, and pay her, she doesn't
care, and its simply bad business. And God forbid you tell them how you want your hair
(bc its your hair and you're paying for it?), they will tell you No? (basically I asked to have my
edges done close together, as it should be, and she told me NO we can not do that? Oh, I'm
sorry I asked the "professionals" to do a professional job, Silly me?

My Issue: I got there at 10: 30 on a Saturday and was shockingly seated right away. But Only because they had a girl get up to give me her seat? I was given the $180 price. A lady started on the back of my hair. Many hours later, around 5PM, I told the owner I had to leave in about 2.5-3 hrs (8PM bc I work nights and live 40 mins away from this location) She said, "the lady that does the front has a head or 2 in front of you, the people that got here before you. " I'm thinking Whatever, bc if my hairs not done by the said time, I'm leaving and they'll have to finish the next day. It shouldn't take 9-10hrs
to get my hair done.

The time arrives: And the owner has said nothing else about it. And the braider literally just finished 3/4s of my head and said the other lady would finish my top in a while. I see that its time for me to go. I get up LIKE I SAID I WOULD, and exit the shop to grab cash out of my car. Upon getting the cash, the owner runs out and yells "YOU HAVE TO PAY" (obviously) and I say Im only giving you half ($90) bc y'all didn't finish and obviously I have to come way back here tomorrow and I'll give you the rest then.
She looks at the money, almost in disgust or that she felt disrespected that I was only giving her half
(for their half job) and yells I'M GETTING YOUR LICENSE PLATE NUMBER! And I yell back DO IT! IT'S NOT LIKE IM NOT TRYING TO PAY YOU! Anyways, She literally wanted the entire $180? Um. Nope!

The End & Suggestions: Go on a day thru the week, not weekend, when you have literally NOTHING AT ALL to do, and expect to wait at least an hr to be seated.
