I recently wanted to change my business banking relationship from Wells Fargo to a smaller bank. One of my clients told me about Cadence. I went in and tried to open an account and I’ve never had to jump through so many hoops to open a bank account! As I stated I’ve been with Wells for 3 years so when i was told that my Articles were insufficient & I also needed a DBA I was shocked because Wells didn’t require that. After running all over town to secure the DBA I returned some days later to find that all of a sudden my credit has a freeze on it! They couldn’t see my credit. I KNOW this to not be true cause I check my files regularly.

I then started to research other small banks in the community, i went to another one whom I won’t name) and the banker was very candid with me and informed me of the profiling that is done out here with people of color. She directed me to another small bank in the area, and guess what? ! My articles were sufficient and they could pull my credit with NO PROBLEM! My accounts are open and the 60k check i had for my deposit is in a safe place drawing interest!

I can’t say that I’m shocked. But I’m certainly glad that my business wasn’t good enough in the beginning, instead of waiting until my money was involved!
