American Restaurant Caroline reviews
16Lance was incredibly attentive and provided great service! Dylan was training and was lovely to our whole (quite large) group! Would totally come back again
I'm with a bunch of people on town for a wedding. We have about 5 nationalities represented here.
Trying to put everything in cash or on one check for 8 people seems like an unreasonable ask and lazy policy. When asked I was told it was written (poorly) at the bottom of the menu.
My chicken looked and tasted like it was under a heat lamp all day.
Figure out a better system for restroom situation.
Honestly, in a modern era, you guys can figure out how to split up a bill.
Our server Lance was fantastic! He was so on top of everything and had awesome food recommendations (splitting the schnitzel and bolagnese)! Thank you for such a fantastic dinner in Austin!
Correct meal, lousy service: the waiter gave himself an increase in tip by falsifying our bill. I sent a note via FB to the establishment and no one responded, they are covering for their dishonest employees.
If you pay cash, you won't have this problem.
Otherwise, the meal and the atmosphere are nice.
Great food and exceptional service by Lance. He was training a new colleague and handled both roles flawlessly. Lance put the experience over the top. Kudos!
The place offers indoor and outdoor tables. I went twice, the first time the service was excellent (outside table) and the second time it was not so good (inside table).
The menu is not that extensive but it offers healthy options and I highly recommend the cinnamon roll.
Updated review: five years ago went here for brunch. In my review I noted that you get the feeling the service was not up to par with the food and that water refills would lag. "you'd go unnoticed at times" by your server. So good news, for large parties they provide water caraffs for you to refill your water. BAD news, you still go unnoticed for extended periods of time. For reference, we ordered a second round of drinks (wine bottle and some cocktails). I had to use the restroom which is located upstairs in the lobby of the aloft. After ordering our drinks, I went upstairs to the restroom, picked up free nachos at the aloft lobby. Returned to the table and still managed to "beat" the server by a considerable length of time. The bar and the restaurant was not backlogged either. If you like sitting at a restaurant that avoids you, Caroline is the place for you. The lobster pasta was average. Desert strawberry shortcake is a non-recommend. Pretty much a parfait with a salted bread crumble and lacked flavor.
I'd be concerned to recommend having anyone come here, as service has not improved from my initial review (five years ago) to now. The price to service ratio is not consistent with other restaurants in Austin.
Noisy (l'm old and hard of hearing), but tasty. No soup, but what they served was darn good.
The first impression of Caroline was great. The host was friendly. I was quick to be sat. It went downhill from there. Took a while to be greeted. Ordered a matcha latte and the biscuits and gravy. The latte tasted good but it had a strip of wood in it. Probably from the whisk or something. The buscuits and gravy came out minutes after ordering it and was clear it was sitting in expo. The gravy had that film over the top. I was going to see about getting another latte but the server just dropped my check and walked away. It was not a good experience.
They told us that there was a waiting list and that the place we chose was reserved, they assigned a table in the uncomfortable hallway and no diner ever arrived at the place we wanted. I ordered Caroline salad and it only had half a cherry tomato, terrible service from their employees, I do not recommend and I will not return!
Great place for after work drinks but reserved tables often clogg up the bar area for "on-demand" guests. The appetisers are also great!
Disappointing. Chicken and waffles were neither crispy or fresh. The breading felt and tasted like it had been reheated in the microwave and the waffles are dense and cakey. Nitro coffee was watery and blah. This place was just disappointing and the 10k+ ratings sucked me in.
Son & I went to Caroline's for lunch once we got into Austin. Absolutely delicious, service by Lance was A+. If I didn't recommend Caroline's, I would be committing a sin. Or at least a crime. Do yourself a favor: have lunch at Caroline's. You'll be glad you did.
Outstanding restaurant in the central area of the city of Austin, Tx. Excellent service and a very varied and high quality menu. A place with a pleasant and good atmosphere. Really a great experience. Prices $$$. Parking on public roads paying meter. Close to historical sites in the city that are worth visiting.
I've had breakfast here a few mornings this week, and well. I keep coming back. Good menu with a bit of variety, but not a bewildered number of options. Staff are great - Aaron was serving me today. Safe to say I'll be back again on this trip.
Great atmosphere and service. The food was okay. I got the beet salad with orange and arugula, and I don’t think there was a single grain of salt in any element of the salad except the sprinkle of seeds on top. Only half of the grilled shishitos had actually touched a part of the grill, as half of them were cold and raw. But the yuzu aioli that came with them was delicious and the baked goat cheese with romesco was amazing!
