Central Market reviews
14Love the people who work there, the many varieties of fruits and vegetables, the restaurant, and my grandchildren love the playscape.
This is a high class HEB with better food selections. I come here for the bulk items as they have a great selection even though its a bit far away. The chili mango is great and tastes better than other places. They also have a good cafe.it is a good selection of foods that you can't get elsewhere.
My fav groceries place over the weekend, fruits and veggies so fresh. So many various and international groceries and etc.today they run a theme known as “Passport Portugal” and exploring the Portugal culinary food. Is a wonderful experience. We love the desserts and cakes.
Always a great store for reasonably priced gourmet groceries. As the flagship store it's a bit smaller, but well laid out. A great place for kids inside and on the patio and playground. A fantastic neighborhood, family friendly place with the feel of a neighborhood store.
I work there as a cashier. I think Curbside presents some hidden values not to be found in normal store shopping. My workmates are usually nice. Great team! Wouldn't trade it for the world! As a consumer it goes well. As an employee, we could use more financial incentives to keep up with inflation and the cost of living in Austin. Just being honest. The customers are usually friendly and engaging in my checkout lane.
This was my first visit to Central Market. I liked it a lot as we stepped in, it has a maze layout that forces you to browse through the whole store. Nice. Thoughtful. Well displayed and lit.
Not nice: crab cakes visibly advertised for $6, that ended up being $13 at cashiers (they were sold in packages of 2, not possible to buy only one, and was NOT clear in the ad that $6 will only buy you half the package of frozen unprepared crab cake). That's the type of business practice that I will NOT reward with my continued business. (also, the crab cakes were very delicious, but still had pieces of crab crust in them - terrible!).
Well - good luck, hope karma rewards you well.
Central market is the premier grocery store in the area. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I visit. Central market is always a great grocery store and the quality of their products is always top nitch.
Love their free food samples! Large variety of groceries and unique imported and local products.
Every time I come to this location, the employees act really prejudice towards people of color. I have noticed the older white women in all departments treat colored folks with less respect than others. Needs to stop. I will not be shopping here anymore and I’m white!
Organic food, it is a pleasure to come to this place, the smells transported me to the most beautiful memories with my grandparents, the flavors and the attention make a place that I definitely want to return to
Picked up a big wedding catering order this morning and Tiffany was incredibly friendly and helpful, thanks Tiffany!
**Restaurant Review. Not Grocery**
First, let me proclaim my undying love and affection for HEB & CM. I am a true fan of the organization. But, (gasp)
Wow! It's been a while since I've had a meal here. And an extra long while since I've had a dinner here. Tonight was pretty deflating. I'm not sure if patrons and staff were equally exhausted by the terrible Texas heat wave. (Deservedly so.) But the entire experience was plain old raggedy and tired.
I ordered a veggie sandwich and a glass of rosé. Condiments at the "stand" were depleted. Partially empty cardboard boxes with the very last-of the-last packets of mayo, mustard, ketchup refills were strewn gaping open on the countertop.
Sandwich, upon retrieval in its plastic clam shell container, was under-grilled, soggy in spots and raw in others-but even so pesto and feta managed to champion the bites in the flavor department.
Perhaps due to the relentlessly harsh LED flood can-lights-to-the-max glaring overhead, (is this an emergency room?) lighting, the experience sadly had all the appeal of eating in a prison cafeteria. It definitely didn't used to feel this way, I thought as I hurriedly finished. (But let's not travel down the "old Austin versus now" wormhole.) This was just a surprisingly sad sandwich experience.
With all of the emphasis on the new, soaring, mega stores in the HEB universe, the sweet original Central Market restaurant on Lamar felt sorely neglected. Granted, help wanted signs abound, and the restaurant business is tough as ever.
I just hope management can glance and hold the perspective of the OG CM restaurant in the rear view mirror and see value in sprucing up the old place a bit. At least the lighting!
It is deserved.
What’s cool about this store is that it’s built in such a maze-like way that it’ll take a couple visits before you discover an aisle you’ve never seen. It’s the ideal shopping experience
