Mexican Restaurant Chimy's reviews
15Non-college adults and parents of small kids BEWARE. Staff was friendly but food was horrible and music was so loud you couldn’t hear the cashier repeat your order. I went with a group of 25 and there were children with us. We had to plug some of their ears bc the music was so loud. You also had to scream to hear the person next to you. I ordered the chicken sandwich, an extra fry, a cheese quesadilla, chips and salsa and what I thought were steak fajita tacoS. First, it took 30 mins for the food to come out and there was no quesadilla. Then they informed me that the quesadilla wasn’t on my ticket. Although I ordered it and the cashier repeated my order (apparently without the quesadilla but of course I didn’t know that bc I couldn’t hear what he said over the music). The food took so look so long, I ate a friend’s beef taco first and it was awful, super dry. Our food wasn’t any better. Chicken sandwich was bland, dry and burnt. The fries and cheese quesadilla were probably the only things worth eating. I was surprised to on see only one fajita taco with my order since it cost almost $7. I didn’t get to even taste the taco bc someone, likely a worker, picked up my tray, with the taco on it, and the taco was never to be seen again. It did not look appealing and at that point just wanted to get out of there. I didn’t realize until I left that I never got my guacamole. Oh yeah, there was no ice in the fountain drink machine so I had to go back up to the register to get some. Parking was also a hassle. $50 down the drain. Left there and went straight to Pappasitos. Needless to say, I’ll never go back. Good thing they have a steady flow of new college kids every year to keep them in business.
Little girl at the cash register was rude and used profanity towards us. Called us broke for not tipping on a order she did nothing to do to help. All she did was take our order, why should we tip for that and why should we be ridiculed for not tipping, I should be tipping the cooks instead of a cashier. Who did nothing but take an order not even make our drinks. Food was okay.
3 stars because we went in and it was really busy and the music was super loud. Ended up going elsewhere.
The food was decent. For a casual walk up counter dining experience, it was OK. The atmosphere you can definitely "college bar" scene. Very relaxed, and not bad for what you pay.
This place is absolutely fantastic! I used to visit only occasionally, like a rare treat, but lately, I just can't seem to get enough of Chimy's. Firstly, their staff is top-notch. The bartenders are not only kind and friendly but also great at striking up conversations and even cracking a few jokes. The managers are genuinely nice folks who take the time to connect with customers too. Secondly, the atmosphere is always welcoming and fun. They play fantastic music, creating the perfect backdrop for a great time. And last but not least, the food is simply delicious, especially the grilled shrimp tacos when they're in season. The kitchen staff always seems to be having a blast and consistently serves up fantastic dishes. If you happen to be in the San Marcos area, I highly recommend stopping by Chimy's for a quick drink or a bite to eat.
Waited over an hour and a half, asked several times about food to find out out it was missing. Gave us chips, salsa and queso to go and it was terrible. Got a refund though.
Super fast line to pass through. The grilled shrimp tacos were great! Nice little vibe with the music selection too. I’ll definitely be back to try the chimychangas out
Waited over 30 mins for our food and once we finally got it was very basic with no genuine flavor. The chips were stale & cheese on the nachos was hard.
Waited an hour and a half for a veggie burrito I never got. Kept going up to the announcer to ask about it and every time I got, “They’re making it now. ” Music was so loud you couldn’t hear the names being called. No ice in the soda fountain. Tables and floors were sticky. The bartenders were vaping behind the counter while making drinks.
This place has horrible staff. They tried to rip me off by charging me full price for happy hour items. When I asked to see the receipt which they didnt give me a copy of, they handed me a blank piece of paper and with attitude said they could read it They messed up my food order and poured weak drinks. Wont be going back.
I can’t say enough great things about this place. We’ve visited before and enjoyed it, but this past weekend was the best experience we’ve had there so far. We are used to the Lubbock and Fort Worth locations but the service this weekend really put this one at the top. Service was fantastic and kind (from the help at the bar to the manager to the waitstaff). Everyone seemed to enjoy working there and it showed! Even when my kid spilled a drink, they didn’t seem annoyed but were instead helpful.
Alex the manager was great too. I needed to give him a personal shout out for being so kind to me and my family. We came in on a Saturday and enjoyed it so much we came back for another round on Sunday!
We had the fish tacos (grilled and fried), beef fajita nachos, burger, and the chips and queso. All were great.
We will keep coming back each time we visit San Marcos!
They can't keep track of orders. Ran out of the one item that brought me here, and their shrimp tacos are just shrimp and American cheese. Was expecting more, should have gone else where. I do not suggest.
Went in on a Saturday afternoon and all they had was crispy tacos. Very disappointed when a full menu is displayed. Left immediately.
Chimys had great food low prices.
Best Margaritas, oh can't leave out, "Great Srevice "
Get there tacos on happy hour, buckets of imports 16 dollars, that's 6 beers can't beat that
