Cidercade Austin reviews
16Nice place to pass some time with friends playing games and enjoying a skyline view from the patio. Come during the adult hours to avoid kids and heavy traffic on consoles. Also they have food and drinks during adult hours.
Cidercade is an activity center and a bit of sensory overload. It is jam packed with pin ball machines, video games, many from the 90’s and 00’s including Guitar Hero, Area 51, Big Buck, NBA Jams, etc as well as a few more rigorous games likes skeeball, pop shot basketball and air hockey. I would say everything is in okay quality, not good, not bad.
There is a door person upon entrance collecting a $12.99 fee for unlimited play and braceleting those 21+. Kiddos are welcome but get booted at 8 pm.
The food selection includes thin crust pizza, pizza rolls (looked like stromboli), two salad options, and smoked wings. I opted to split the greek salad and a pizza with a friend, it was the perfect amount of food. The salad was good and pizza was decent. There is soda for $4 all you can drink with a ton of flavors like blueberry and pink drink. For alcohol, there are 24 ciders on tap, no other options.
There are a good number of tables inside and out. You can reserve space ahead of time as well.
PSA: Read their FAQ page for a good time!
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED IN A RESTAURANT IN MY LIFE. I called ahead for a party of 14 for my college daughter's birthday. They texted back and said they should have room and that tables were first-come, first serve. We arrived, paid cover charge, and asked where to sit and were pointed to a table on the patio. We ordered food and drinks right away and were waiting for it to be delivered around 1: 15 pm when the manager put a reserved sign on the table for 2 pm. He didn't say anything to us, and we honestly didn't notice what he did. At 1: 58 when we were still waiting for one pizza and were also singing happy birthday, a hostess came up and rudely TOLD us to leave WHILE WE WERE SINGING. At 2 pm (still waiting for a pizza and eating birthday cupcakes) the manager came up and told us to leave and kept telling us someone else wanted the table and had paid for it. He then called us "entitled" many times, said to one adult, "what are you, 16 years old? " called us "rude" and said "congratulations, you just got kicked out of an arcade on your daughter's birthday" and he said one of the elderly people with us was "nice, unlike you rude people. " He said a lot of other things that I'm too mad to remember. He sent POLICE to our table to escort us out He OFFERED to refund our admission, took our credt cards, said the refund would appear in a few days, and DID NOT ACTUALLY REFUND US! It was all a lie. The kicker is that there were other open tables on this patio. And he admitted that he had forgotten to reserve this table. All he had to do was apologize for asking us to move mid-meal and help us move, and we would have been happy to do it. But instead, he demanded we leave, called us names, insulted us, and completely lied about a refund, and sent a cop to walk us out. We paid a big cover charge to be treated like dogs and didn't even have the chance to play one game, and didn't even receive all our food before being kicked out of a table. THESE PEOPLE ARE TOTALLY SHADY. The "manager" in Dallas won't return calls, and I'm suspicious they just gave me a fake phone number.
If you are the owner of Cidercade, YOUR AUSTIN EMPLOYEES ARE HIDING CUSTOMER SERVICE ISSUES FROM YOU AND TREATING YOUR CUSTOMERS BADLY.
WILSON, your manager responded with a text about 5 minutes after I posted this review (2 weeks after incident) and said he would send a gift certificate so we could try it again, and I answered, but he didn't follow through with any instructions or information. Still in limbo here. Poor communication.
The arcade games werent all that great and some of them didnt work. The pizza on the other hand was awesome. Thin crust, great sauce and plenty of flavor. The cost of it all isnt too bad either.
It’s a little expensive to play games that are half broken. The cider is very good. They also keep your card when you open a tab and most places don’t do that anymore. Thankfully they open early ish so you can get your card the next morning ;)
I wanted to like it, but 4 of the 5 games I wanted to play were broken, & even if I did want to play more later, there was no way to upgrade my day pass.
All of the classic arcade games you can hope for; fighters, shooters, side-scrollers, racers, more pinball tables than you know what to do with, skee-ball, air hockey, basketball, and some of the best hard cider you can ask for!
What is different, and better, about this arcade is that you pay an entry fee - only $12 - and all of the above-mentioned games are free-play, as long as you want! You just pay for food and drinks, if desired. They make personal sized pizza, there is a soda machine, and for the adults, Bishop's Hard Ciders. Stay and play all day.
I got the impression they literally do not maintain many of the games. I was especially let down when i found one of my favorite games jubeat and found that two of the buttons were broken.then sound voltex. Then maimai. Even simple cabs like altered beast had a broken joystick. Giving two stars because the food and cider is good (albeit comes at a price you expect from drinking in public), If you like pinball and a lot of (if they work) old retro cabs you're set, and games like killer queen and death ball are totally sick (if you come with a big group you must play killer queen). For me however, this experience ended up essentially being a ripoff.
My kids and I had a blast! Games are geared more towards the big kid range but my 4 year old still loved it just as much as the big kids.
I really like this place BUT I have a huge problem with the MAINTENANCE. When I first came here over a year ago was fine and all but now there are some systems that don't work and even some of the games that do work things like the joystick or buttons on some of these are broken so it makes it unplayable. They really need to have someone come in and double check every machine PLEASE especially to the fact that it's a tad bit more expensive than it was before. The place is still clean but the food is overpriced for my budget.
I just really hope they're fixing all the machines soon, maybe add some new ones later on
$10 cover for play all day
Cover covers all plays
arcade games, racing games, Skee-Ball, air hockey, pinball, pacman, galaga, Atari,
No quarters, bills, or tokens required. The games and attractions are all set to free play at this arcade.
Would highly recommend their ciders and pizza - would recommend avoiding the wings (too much smoke flavor and not enough buffalo flavor)
I would highly recommend over Pinballz for Pinballs / Pinball games
Love the concept. Food looked and smelled good (I had already eaten and didn't order any). Fun atmosphere. 4 stars because there were a handful of games that were always in use and we had to wait and 20 that no one touched. Would be nice to move a few unused ones out and fill in the gaps with more popular games. (More air hockey!)
Beer and pizza roll was excellent. And did I mention all you can play video games? Fantastic!
Fantastic place for a birthday party, everyone had a good time. Photo is a view from the back patio.
I wasn't expecting this place to be so cool! It had all the arcade games from my childhood, like Area 51, Pac-Man, and Time Crisis. The arcade was incredibly clean, and the entrance fee was super cheap, I think it was around $15 to play all night. And, to top it off, the pizza was amazing! Overall, I had a wonderful experience, and playing those old games brought back a flood of childhood memories. Thanks again, and I'll definitely be back!
Closed without any notification barring a piece of paper on the door. Apparently professionalism isn’t a must at this place.
