I'm a black disabled veteran with PTSD that served in Afghanistan, They held my grand champion Cane Corso for a month while I was in treatment, promised me they'd hold him till I was better, when I came to pick him up finally sober they neutered him without my permission, let someone I never met adopt him, then smiled at me when they told me the news, I had him since he was 8 weeks old. Not everyone who works there is bad, but there are some very Evil people who do

I saw a group of dogs being scheduled to be euthanized today and they literally just received them in 10/27. Now what’s your reason? And don’t lie shelter because I got the receipts and I’ll just post them.

Adopted my first pupper from here back in 2020, best decision I ever made. Today he’s living his best life and I’m glad chose him, he’s the best dog ever. First photo is when I first brought him home, second is him now.

You can tell by their generic responses to these reviews that they simply don't care. Their happy Facebook posts don't compare to how many they are euthanizing, sometimes up to 19 a day. 4 days is NOT long enough to find a dog a home. Sickening. Murdering literal puppies, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

You wouldn’t put down an orphan if you have no room for them or they have behavioral issues yet you play God and put down animals.

Zero stars. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE. THEY MURDER THEM SO EASILY AS IF THEY ARE OBJECTS AND NOT LIVING BEINGS. Imagine, just IMAGINE THE ABSOLUTE TERROR they must feel after suffering the hardship they were put in through no fault of their own only to make it to this nasty so called "rescue" to have their life snuffed out as though it is no big deal. All of you who take part in this atrocious practice will pay. How dare you.

Great place to spay & neuter Community Cats. You just make an appointment online then pick up some vouchers & traps if needed. You show up & get your car in line and once the gate opens you drive in slowly one by one. There are people there checking you in as each of us drive in. You don't have to go inside the building. Just hand your kitty over with the voucher and drive off through the other side of the gate. It's the same process when picking up. It's completely painless compared to other places where it's first come first serve.

Ah hell no this place doesn't deserve any stars. Kill shelters deserve to be shuy down. It's inhumane to euthanize humans why is it different for an innocent kitten/pup. Like to know I can only foster 1 or only adopt two but they can kill 40+ in a day so they can make room to kill more sickens me.

First time here, and was surprised to find such a clean, well-run facility. The staff was friendly and very helpful. From the inviting and colorful decor and theme in the parking lot, to the final adoption process, the experience was very positive. Happy to save a dog's life, and he is fitting in beautifully with our others. Adopt and save an animal's life, and you'll find that they save yours

I know you think bad reviews affect peoples likeliness to adopt. However I don’t understand how you can have 51 dogs on your euthanasia list in one day. 28 on the euthanasia list the day before. Is anybody who is actually employed by the shelter trying to get these dogs adopted? Did you actually take in 51 dogs in a day and have to put that many on the list? Was it necessary to murder so many puppies? Why are they being spayed and neutered and spending funds on that before they are adopted? The whole thing sounds like a scam to me. The volunteers that work at your shelter are amazing, trying to save lives. Anyone who’s being paid by the shelter should be ashamed of themselves. Please save the generic answer you give everyone else who leaves a bad review and tell me what the paid employees of this facility are doing to facilitate change. I personally donate, share, foster when I can. So again, save the response you send everyone and tell me something real.

I recently adopted a puppy from San Antonio Animal Care. She had to be euthanized due to distemper from this shelter. Distemper is a highly contagious disease to animals that can spread. It starts out with vomiting and diarrhea. This facility is low down and dirty who doesn’t follow protocol. My rating is a minus negative 00.

This shelter is killing dogs in droves! "Humanely Euthanizing" young, healthy, non-aggressive, highly adoptable dogs, mother dogs and even puppies after their 3 day sllegally required stray hold. Almost 4500 dogs so far this year have been euthanized at this "shelter" (more like death house) This is not humane, this is animal extermination! It is also not a dog problem, it is a human problem! This shelter was working towards becoming a no kill facility until Shannon Sims, former military, took over. Is he the one pushing these needles everyday and is there a financial incentive for this? Who is paying for these medications amd the medical service? San Antonio has a crisis with dog overpopulation but slaughtering dogs is not the humane way to handle this! These dogs are given no time to be advertised for adoption or to be rescued by non local rescues/adopters. Volunteers are working hard to get the word out but by the time people see the notices, offer pledges or fill out an application, these dogs are already dead bc this shelter gives them only the 3 day legal stray hold, sometimes not even enough time for their heartworm test to come back. Why isn't anyone from San Antonio demanding the termination of Shannon Simms? Why are there no mandatory spay and neuter laws? There are better ways ti handle this! Shame on you, San Antonio Animal Care Services! Do NOT surrender your dog or cat to this shelter please, even if you are homeless or incapacitated, please make other arrangements for your pet, they will be put on the kill list!

This place isn't available 24/7. Incidents happen all the time. And when they are available it takes them 2-4 hours to arrive.
