Cook-Walden Funeral Home reviews
19 We were so impressed with the wonderful services received during our loss at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. I would highly recommend your services and assistance to anyone in need. Thank you for being thorough, considerate and kind to my family.
Just one question: When can we expect the flag case to arrive. We were truly satisfied with everything presented to us.
Sincerely,
Dora Garza
Cook-Walden Funeral was more than I could ask for. The Director, Meagan was the most pleasant, polite, conscientious and knowledgeable young lady I had the pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Cook-Walden to anyone in need of funeral arrangements. The entire staff, specifically Meagan and Alicia were fantastic. Coming from out of state and never preparing for a funeral could have been a disaster. However, those young ladies and the staff at Cook-Walden made the whole process painless. I am very grateful that my mom chose to use them for her going on services. Thank you Cook-Walden.
Magen, Marty and all others who helped our family were wonderful, kind, considerate, extremely professional and more. Our family will be forever grateful during such a heartbreaking time.
I am extremely satisfied with the professionalism of all staff members. I was provided with the information needed, so that I did not have to wander what to do next. My parents and sister's services were handled by Cook-Walden and I am going to start my pre-planning.
Everything was done in a friendly personal manner.
The staff was very helpful and the funeral director, Marty< made everything very clear and understandable and has continued to help with the items we need to complete their service.
We were treated with the utmost sensitivity and received the best possible advice for our particular circumstances. As a baby boomer trying to bridge the gap between very traditional parents and minimalist children, we came up with a plan for beautiful and economical solutions.
Dignity Memorial.
This was a very new experience for me.
As a baby boomer, I've not only lost my mother, recently, but have had so very many friends experience the passing of elderly parents and relatives, as well. Many from old age, some from chronic illnesses. Most, expected and a few unexpected. Then, Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others are killed instantly, and so tragically, in a horrible accident. Once again, the unexpected death. Now, my eyes are wide open. I would never, ever want to burden someone with making final arrangements for me. I would never, ever want someone dear to me have to scrounge to figure out who to contact about closing financial accounts and credit cards, turning off utilities, contacting my place of employment, notifying family and friends, and wondering what to do with my remains.
I felt the sudden urge to sit down with someone and figure this all out. Laurie Fryar is a friend of mutual friends. I can proudly call her MY friend, now. Laurie was very personable and extremely professional. She was informative, she explained things in simple terminology. Laurie had her "serious" side, as well as her understanding and "compassionate" side. She was VERY easy to work with, confide in and relate to. I felt at ease with Laurie, and extremely satisfied. I walked through the door feeling lost and unknowing, and walked out feeling informed and content.
I am very grateful to Laurie for her warm spirit and exceptional guidance.
Dignity Memorial is well represented by Laurie Fryar's dedication, devotion and compassion. She is, most definitely, a keeper!

Cook Walden provided great service for our family during hard times. They were very kind, respectful, and understanding with our situation.
Very serenity place where I decided to hold my husband's funeral at first visit. The funeral director Marty provided excellent services and very prompt in handing any concerns or questions I had. The service was beautiful and flawless. The price was very comparative. Hi recommended.
I was very pleased with Cook Walden’s professionalism and the service they provided for my client.
We used the twice over a ten year period. They were always very professional while being very caring. They always knew the right thing to say at the right time.
Finding ourselves in a suddenly difficult situation and not knowing where to go or where to start, my son found this place on the Internet. He called for an appointment, which was given for the same day. We met with Meghann that afternoon. She knew we were hurting. She was very sensitive as our emotions were very high, yet our need was real. Her professionalism showed through. She took time to explain and allowed us to ask questions. She did not rush us, she would also allow some time for us to grief by stepping out of the room so we could have some privacy. She impressed us so much that we cancelled other appointments. Her help allowed us to make some difficult decisions that made the Rosary and Memorial service beautiful; I know my son was smiling in heaven. Friends and family gathered to pay my son, Rolando their final respect. Marty and other employees assisted as well. We will forever be grateful to all the staff at Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
Thank you!

Staff was professional and caring, both in their actions and attitudes. They made a very difficult task easier. A very special thanks to Mr. Sledz and Mr. Blackburn.
Cook Walden was very efficient, and helpful with my father’s arrangements. The flowers we chose for the casket were very pretty.
Thank you,
Shan guided us through every step taking in each detail. Her patience during this difficult time was very much appreciated. The visitation and ceremony could not have gone smoother and we were very proud of the outcome. Thank you!
They dug a burial hole in the wrong location where I was suppose to bury my grandfather (next to his wife.)
My father had a prepaid burial policy and was also a pirple heart veteran. Cook walden, north lamar location was not interested in the details if my dads prepaid policy and instead charged for services that were covered on burial picy. Fineral director was was rude and extremely sarcastic. When I questionedher about double charges on limosand pice escirts she responded we could just put my dads body on back if a pickup truck. Tried talking to management after funeral and was only refunded $175 for extremely icer sized suit I purchased at funeral home.
It's been nothing but disappointment to say the least. My mother-in-law passed away in July 2017 and her resting place still has no marker (not even a temp plaque). I was told that the actual marker takes a few months to get but they assured me that a temporary plaque will be available a couple of weeks after burial. I have called numerous times, and stopped by the funeral homes more than a few times trying to find out when are they going to get the marker order and install. Each and every time I was told that it will be expedited but so far still nothing.
They did a great job and were very compassionate with my husbands services. I would highly recommend this funeral home to anyone who is looking for a very compassionate and caring staff.
