Digestive & Liver Diseases Clinic - UT Southwestern, Dallas TX

I was dismissed and given horrible medical advice from Dr. Ioana Smith. Avoid this clinic but especially Dr. Smith. I went weeks with severe abdominal pain and vomiting unable to eat or drink. The emergency room only helped to manage my symptoms and dehydration and recommended an emergency GI consult. Dr. Smith said I most likely had a bacterial infection and recommended I suffer for another “week or two before she orders any tests”. She didn’t even bother to schedule a follow-up appointment with me. Thank god I got a second opinion at Digestive Disease Clinic of Texas Health Presbyterian Plano, Dr. Masand ordered a HIDA scan which showed my gallbladder was not functioning, was infected and inflamed. I got emergency gallbladder removal surgery which the surgeon confirmed was in a severe state. After the removal last week I felt so much better and my suffering was over. If I listened to Dr. Smith I would still be in severe pain and would soon have the infection spread to the rest of my body. Please go somewhere else so you don’t get dismissed like I did.

Tried for over 4 weeks to make an appointment. My previous doctor had moved his practice to UTSW. Really wanted to stay with him. Finally got a voicemail from them to set up an appointment. The lady at the # that was left didn't make appointments. She transferred me and after waiting 20 minutes, I gave up. Who wants a doctor that they cannot get a hold of. I'm very disappointed because my family has been going to Dr. Goldschmidt for over 30 years. So sorry that I am having to find a new doctor.

I have been waiting for an hour in this room for my doctor to come see me. This is ridiculous. I’m still waiting.

Countless GI clinics and doctors weren't sure what to make of my aggressive UC. The disease nearly killed me. These guys were my last shot. They 100% saved my life. - Their newer PA's can be a little meh but their GI doctors are top notch and know what they're doing.

Don't waste your time here if you have an aggressive GI disease. I have been with them for years. This was the best clinic until The best doctor for the Gi clinic left. It is chaos with scheduling if you need an ibd specialist. The soonest the doctor, who is supposed to take my case, can see me isn't until September. It seems like The doctors are overwhelmed and not willing to work with you. You can tell them your symptoms but doesn't mean they will do every thing in your best interest to make you better. Better off going to another IBD specialist. Really disappointed this is how the best clinic became one of the worst I've been too.

My GI issues are likely caused by my autoimmune disease. GI symptoms so bad that my rheumatologist wanted the clinic to see me. I saw a PA and she was rude and dismissive. Once she saw that I had an autoimmune disease she couldn't get out of the room fast enough. "Go see your rheumatologist. " That's who sent me here! Tests that could have shown objective data were not ordered until my wonderful PCP intervened later. Unfortunately I had suffered for 3 months and was pulling myself out of the flare so the tests were a waste. I went to UTSW as I am a complicated patient and was assured that they would collaborate and use a team approach to plan my care. Besides my PCP there is no collaboration between specialists. Would not recommend.

Called last week, January 2019, to make a new patient appointment. I was told the earliest available was not until April 2019. I have BC/BS PPO plus Tricare. AND I had my internist send a referral despite it not being required with a PPO. It scares me as my condition is already pretty intrusive, painful and I’m nervous about what is causing my symptoms. I worry the lost time in waiting for appointment could be critical time spent in treatment instead. I knowa I’m not alone im having thoughts like these. Nobody wants to be ill or use the ER for care they know can and should be handled outpatiently with an internist or specialist. But more and more lately that seems to be the case. Cost of an ER visit versus a specialist outpatient visit is clearly more; so why would anyone want to do that?

The clinic is overbooked and they are not organized. I always go to UTSW clinics but this clinic is definitely the worst clinic sofar. They have a poor scheduling system with no flexibility and awful time management. They don’t even consider their own doctors notes when they are scheduling!

My GI in Arlington has sent referal for 2 and a half years to get me in to see these people
She sent again the last one in February 2018
They just called me after5 months to get me in in another 6 weeks

Excellent customer experience. The ladies at the front desk are very helpful. I hardly had a chance to sit down before being called back. They were early for my appointment. What a change. The staff listened and followed up.
