Fresa's - South First reviews
21I don’t understand how this place has so many good reviews. The food was very cold and the chicken with rave reviews was so bland. The queso wasn’t good and super small, the chips are the most generic chips aren’t good.the drinks are super over priced, the glasses are about 5 Oz and filled to the brim with ice for $11… you’re probably getting 2oz of drink. Definitely not worth it. The service was slow as Moses too.
Great place to eat, whether outside (my favorite) or inside. Spot-on flavors and just the right portions. Definitely recommend.
The food was really really fresh! I'm not one to eat a whole bowl of just veggies but the flavor was there! I'd recommend this place to people looking for fresh and healthy food
The Good: We had a brand new server, and she was admittingly awkward. But she was incredibly kind, and attentive and clearly took pride in her work. So kudos there! Really bright and fun atmosphere. Even though we were inside, it felt like we were right on the patio.
The Meh: Honestly, the tacos were incredibly average. And in a city of no shortage of taco joints, it was a bit disappointing. The sides, and apps were fantastic, and some of the better queso I have had though.
I've been here twice and both times the chicken, rice, and beans were a little colder than room temperature. I don't know how it's possible. Do they make the chicken plates in vast quantities and set them on racks? Based on the reviews I guess most people are OK with food being cold? Two stars because my wife likes it.
Fresa’a is delicious and the portions are generous! Drinks are yummy - what more could you want!
The food was amazing! I came to visit from out of town and was throughly impressed. The outdoor picnic seating was great. There is a stage for outdoor music. There is a small area for kids to run around a little bit away from the eating areas. Overall fun place with great food.
Waste of time they served me cold tacos and forgot part of my order after checking it twice
I love this place! Good vibe, good food, good service. One of my fav local spots! Thank you Fresas!
Drinks and food were incredible - highly recommend the steak chimichurri, apple guacamole, and the queso. Great service as well!
No wait to be seated we got there around 6: 15pm on a Wednesday. Everyone’s food came out cold. My son’s chicken wings were ice cold. They did remake them. Not sure if they were precooked and then refrigerated to reheat. Everyone else’s food was room temp. We were too hungry to have them sent back. We also typically never complain we just don’t go back after a bad experience.
Super yummy queso. The tostada was good but I didn’t love all the radish. Their chicken is so good too and you can’t beat the patio! Spicy marg is almost as good as Taco Flats.
Have eaten here many times. The food is always reliability good. Healthy, tasty and perfect portions. The service and atmosphere can vary because it's so popular, they can get overwhelmed. Be patient and your will enjoy!
The best are the powerbowls! And their brunch is delicious too!
Decent food. Our server did his best. Had a large group come for an early birthday dinner before they got too busy (6: 30). Drinks took forever, and food was good.
Food was excellent. One of, if not the best Mexican spots I’ve been to in Austin. My perspective is a little skewed being from the northeast and not having access to regular quality Mexican food. The tacos were the most average offering (but still excellent). The rice and beans was stellar, and the Mexican street corn was out of this world good. Looses one star because service was a little disorganized. The food itself came super quick once ordered but our server took a while to come at first because the house was didn’t assign someone to our table. Once he did begin service he still failed to bring back utensils/napkins despite asking twice. We had to use sliced jalapeños to spread sour cream on our nachos because we didn’t have a spoon lol. Still highly recommend.
I legit do not understand how this place has good reviews, the food was gross sloppy and tasted like it came from a can. The service was incredibly slow talking 30 mins to get water and the cups had a awful odor and the waiter just shrugged
Service was really poor. We saw every table around us get served but no one even offered us a menu for 25 minutes. We came on a weekday night around 8pm. Thanks to Felipe for saving the day and rushing our order to make up for it. Really disgusting attitude from the other servers. This place used to be a south Austin staple but it’s become a preppy spot for Austin’s rich transplants, which is really sad. Used to go here every week, won’t be returning any more.
Always had consistently good food and service over the last few years. The place gets packed on weekends, so having a reservation helps. Their outdoor patio seating is huge and is beautiful in the evening with all the string lights
We got our usual achiote spiced chicken, quesadilla and steak. Our favorite is the achiote spice chicken, always has nice kick to it and the jalapeño sauce that comes with it is great.
Tasty dinner and drinks! Spacious outdoor area and indoor seating as well. Between three of us we shared the loaded queen, empanadas, and roasted cauliflower. For drinks we had the classic and spicy margs and the hibiscus mule (the mule being the group favorite, even amongst margarita lovers).
Fresas is the absolute best! They have the best shareable dishes that all have an amazing unique taste. I love that the menu slightly changes so you always have something new to try!
