Garrison Park reviews
19My kids loved this park. There are shade trees everywhere, and multiple climbing structures. My kids favorite part of the park is the replica of a cannon. There was plenty of parking and they have a pool for use in the summer months. The negative aspects are that the bathrooms were not well maintained, and the restroom door does not lock.
Garrison park is shady, mellow, lovely place for a stroll, bike ride, or swim (during summer when the pool is open)
I walk my cat here each week in this well-kept and under-utilized park.
There are some quiet spots with lots of shade and dozens of park benches and picnic tables to choose from.
•If you enjoy BBQing, there's plenty of grills
•If you enjoy a swim, visit late spring thru summer and enjoy the well-maintained pool for $3
•There's a lovely pavillion for gatherings at the very back of the park
•There's a BBall court here (shh! Keep it on the low)
•Runners & Dog walkers know there's lots of even gravel trails across the park
•You could probably find a spot to do yoga or tai chi uninterrupted (there's even some bamboo on the side of the park furthest from the High School along the side road)
•The big draw is the children's jungle gym with swings, slides and play structures
•There is ample parking in the front and at the very back of the park
•Riders- there's a few places you could lock up your bike, or tie up your horse, at the front entrance nearer to the pool.
•This is a dog-friendly park, BUT Please remember to keep your dogs on-leash when visiting.
The one downside to this park is that some irresponsible pet owners let their dogs off leash too frequently here, despite there being 2 relativity close off leash parks in the area (FYI: closest one I believe is off 1st and Slaughter).
There are also facilities and water fountains, but they appear unavailable at this time. You can use the portapotties but remember to bring your own water when visiting Garrison.
Thanks to Emansipet, monthly discount pet services at the parks. My fur babies love the park, always clean & quiet. Very nice areas to walk.
Not too big of a park but it's still nice. Safe place to walk and to bring your children!
I went here with my friend and we chilled for several hour enjoying the day and the shade the tree's provided. Overall Garrison park is a very nice park in South Austin. It also has a pool you can swim in this summer (2022) and lots of trees and therefore a good place to find some shade and get out of the sun or cool down in the pool. It's right next to a great place to eat some of the best tasting catfish I ever tasted at Cherry Creek Catfish Parlour. Garrison Park is also by Crocket High School. I would also say this is a kid friendly park and a nice place to take your family for a little bit door run.
Nice shady playground with plenty of room to run around. In the future we will take lunches and make use of the ample picnic tables.
Garrison park has been around a long time ever since I've grown up it's been here. It's a big park with a lot of fields. A basketball court and a swimming pool. Its a great place to hang with your family or even have some time to yourself. Never been? Set up a picnic or go for a walk and enjoy.
It's close to home so I'm biased but it's rather charming. Some people will tell you it's dangerous at night and all these weird rumors but it's not too bad. Might see a stoner on occasion as they aren't really trying to hide themselves but they are mostly just highschool kids and will mind their own business. The kids at the local highschool are mostly relatively well behaved and have no intention of hurting you.
Nice park, big lots of trees, trails, playground, basketball court and great place to walk and let loose my dogs. They loved it.
Beautiful and peaceful. Only issue was as soon as I stepped out of my cari could smell marijuana. My dogs loved it also.
As a dog owner that keeps his dog on a leash I'm wondering why there were so many dogs just running around without a leash today and big dogs too. I have a little cutesy dog and they were German shepherds around that I know always go after my dog. Like I hate to be a Karen people but keep your dogs on a leash.
Big Beautiful park with playground, fitness trail, public pool and baseball field rental. Good place to come in daylight hours, not very well lot on the trail at night, but maybe that will change.
I love this park but a lot of people do walk their dogs here and it's not the cleanest in the bathroom but the kids do have a lot of fun
Beautiful park to escape to right in the middle of the city! We love having this space within walking distance of our community.
Emancipet had so much to offer of the veterinarian services you need if you're on a fixed income! It's good to know that someone cares as much as you do for your loved little buddies. Ty
It was upsetting see the conditions of the park and the grounds, now wanting to bring my grandkids to and enjoy was not that at all there was lots of homeless people and unleashed dogs which made it feel real unsafe and very uncomfortable.
Good park for children. Rest rooms closed. Security truck passed by 2x in 1 hour. Some trails available in hard surface, good nor bikes.
Been going to this park since I was just a youngster. Great place for family time and the pool is amazing when it is open.
