Godai Sushi Bar & Japanese Restaurant, San Antonio TX

We eat Godai at least twice a month. Whether we dine in or DoorDash. Either way, it never disappoints. My daughter chose to have her birthday dinner here and even though they don’t take reservations on Fridays and Saturdays, they helped me figure out a time to come in to ensure I would have a table for 10. The service was excellent, as usual. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. The owner, who is usually there helping in any way he can, is a literal ray of sunshine. The sweetest man. If I could give Godai more stars, I would. Delicious food and fantastic service, what more could you ask for?

Terrific food and wonderful service. The owner/chef Goro was really nice and welcoming. They also have cute merchandise. They have live music Saturday from 6-8pm.

Excellent food, really good service. Place is rundown and could use an update, inside and out. But it’s a really good restaurant.

It was our first time today at Godai. It was all around just amazing. Our waitress was the sweetest! The Food was outstanding! We definitely will be back!

First time guest. Godai serves the freshest and tastiest sashimi I've had in San Antonio. Also, the above par calamari appetizer was properly seasoned, lightly fried, and paired with a spicy, tasty aioli. Finished the meal with an addicting bowl of green tea ice cream. Live piano music kept a unique and friendly vibe going throughout. In the future, I might not go anywhere else in San Antonio for sushi.

Decided to give this place a try because of a BOGO special they had on Facebook and the awesome reviews. I guess people must be reviewing based on their fresh sushi because their tempura roll is literally the most bland, tasteless fried sushi I have had in all of San Antonio:/
Only reason I’m giving them two stars is because the portions were huge but I just gave it all to my sister and came to Goro’s instead.
Also they forgot my eel sauce that I asked over the phone and paid for and luckily I checked the bag and got back down out of my car to go get it. My sister said thank god cause if it wasn’t for the sauce even she wouldn’t have eaten the rolls.

Love this quaint sushi joint! The sushi is fresh and yummy! My favorite is the complementary miso soup and salad, the bagel roll, unagi roll, and tuna/masago hand roll which never fail to hit the spot! My boyfriend loves the egg rolls, French roll, and the shrimp hand roll. The owner, William, is always there and he’s so kind. Fifi, who works the sushi bar, is amazing and super friendly. They also have a wide selection of wine and there’s even a little Japanese snack section! I’ve gotten some unique Pocky Sticks from here that I haven’t been able to find in other stores. Again, we love this place and feel right at home here.

Came here again after a great first experience a few weeks ago. This place has really good food, especially any of their sushi rolls.

Tom’s Special Roll 9/10 - Yellowfin Tuna wrapped over the roll with Avocado and thin sliced lemon. Very good flavor that I highly recommend.

Salmongonzia Roll 8/10 - very good roll that looked amazing as well.

Calamari 6/10 - heavy breaded, but the flavor was great.

Spring Crab Rolls 9/10 - these things are absolutely amazing! Never had rolls like this!

Atmosphere 7/10 - nothing fancy, just focus on the food.

Service 7/10 - service was great, just a little slow is all.

Overall 8/10 - definitely a must try for Japanese fare.

This is the BEST sushi restaurant in San Antonio. Every person I take to this restaurant always falls in love with it.

My favorite sushi roll is the Tom’s Special, it is a bit on the higher end in terms of price but it is SO worth it! I also love their fried rice AND the fried oreos! Leave some space for the fried Oreos!

This place was amazing. Great atmosphere, even better food! Daughter and I had a lovely time and will definitely be back in the future!

They had on here, October 11,2021 that their dining room was open from 2: 00 PM to 8: 00 PM with a green check mark beside dining room open. My friend and I carefully reviewed 2 or 3 selections that we had in mind to dine at, and decided to eat here. We drove up to see a banner on outside of the rotting building that read "indoor dining room now open" We went inside and was rudely told that there is pick up only, with an attitude of, don't you know? With added hand gestures. While we were getting into our vehicle another party or prospective patrons for this establishment drove up, went inside and within 5 seconds, came out, looking at banner on front of building. I have eaten here at least 10 times over a 5 year period a few years back and always had an enjoyable eating experience. This is a big let down. I will never eat anything again out of here. Big empty parking lot and empty dining room.

Best sushi in San Antonio hands down! We celebrated a friend’s birthday last night and everything was so fresh and tasty! I woke up wanting more after being stuffed last night! Can’t wait to go back! I just wish I took more pictures!
