Good Luck Cafe reviews
17I took my blind father, who is also hard of hearing. The waitress, Maria was so rude and inpatient with my dad. She never came back to see if we needed some more coffee of anything, for that matter. I went cause of their reviews on Menudo. The menudo at La Choza @ Zaragoza is way better. Will never return.
So an article from Taste Atlas brought me here. This website named the menudo at Good Luck Cafe the #1 best menudo in the world. That's quite a title to bestow and an exceedingly high expectation to set up for this restaurant that in my opinion, did not deliver. Here is how it went for me:
1. I called ahead and asked if take out was an option, the woman that answered said yes and then hung up on me.
2. I went in person to order my menudo to go, the same woman was at the register. Her 3 inch nails and rude attitude definitely did not give me good vibes about visiting in the future.
3. I decided to order a Chile relleno and Chilaquiles along with my menudo to test out their menu. Neither the Chile relleno or Chilaquiles came with rice and beans, it also wasn't offered to me. The Chile relleno was ok, not as fluffy as I like mine. The chilaquiles were ALL HEAT no flavor.
4. THE MENUDO: the caldo had a good consistency and the meat was cooked well. But alas, no heat and no flavor. By far the most bland menudo I have ever had. My brother said it was "mid". My dad said "no flavor, the caldo tastes like water. "
I've tried menudo at about 100 restaurants in Los Angeles, Chicago, Albuquerque, El Paso, Durango Mexico and Chihuahua. I'd place this Menudo at about #90 on my list.
The best menudo I've ever had of course, was home made by a talented neighbor.
There was a gentleman that checked in on us while we were waiting for our order, he was kind and gracious, otherwise I would've given this review 1 star.
EDIT: I hear there is usually a long wait with a line out the door. Def not worth waiting in line. But if you want to try for yourself, go on a week day before the lunch rush and there is no wait.
This place neve disappoints. Food is always great. Great service. Great price! This place is definitely worth it to try out!
Great place for breakfast, menudo is delicious
Lunch aswell fantastic.
Expect to wait for a table
I will always give this place five stars every time I eat here I feel like I'm at home.
Good old fashioned diner with an experienced wait staff that provide you with a basic selection of plates to choose from. Nothing out of the ordinary, just your basic "hole in the wall" joint that is there when you need a quick bite.
The first ever Good Luck Cafe, this is it!
Came here around 2pm but the entire place still packed, can totally tell how popular and important it is to local citizens.
Sometimes, this kind of place is to be visited every once in a while, for the sake of memory
Ordered their menudo, chicken salad (the fried chicken is well seasoned and crisp), shredded beef tacos, and "work" burger, all very nice.
A place with great food, a place where my elderly family, would come and dine. They were young, and come eat after a football game between La Bowie y Los J.foxes!
Food was excellent like always… the service on the other hand… was horrible. The server treated us like she was the one paying for our food. She was rude as hell! To bad I didn’t catch her name. Not that she even bothered to introduce her self!
Great experience, got there just before 7am, line of customers happy and chatting about the place, I had menudo.it was cold, get your jacket, great atmosphere, excellent service.
Waitstaff is rude. The food was okay and inexpensive, but not a place I would recommend for a nice breakfast/brunch.
Definitely a MUST stop.best diner style in town. Home cooked feeling always packed always delicious a local favorite this place NEVER disappoints
The menudo was good, we got their early, so it wasn't as simmered as I would have liked. The fries needed to be cooked a little more also!
Their service is absolutely outstanding! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a cozy atmosphere. And the food was absolutely amazing!
Homey feeling with hearty food and old-school vibes. GLCafe more than met my need for simple yet satisfying breakfast - I recommend the hamburger steak!
As an El Paso resident I had forgotten about this great spot, glad I came back-food and service is great and prices can't be beat!
Very busy restaurant. A little wait time. Old school atmosphere. Felt like I traveled back to 1980.
Food was hot and flavorful. Perfect spice (hotness) for Mexican food.
