Late Victorian era residence with a seemingly Greek-revival facade. Truly an adventure in a world consumed with tearing down the old and mass producing the likes of ill-concieved Mcmansions.

If you enjoy historic places, visit this one. There is no admission fee, but a donation is requested. A friendly employee is on site to give information and answer questions.

Beautiful mansion. The history of this place is incredible. There are so many original pieces from the family to view.

A beautifully restored home from 1859. Remodeled several times over the years and find with many articles from the past.

This was a very nice old home. The downstairs lady gave us a very nice history of the home, and the people that lived there, and how the home changed throughout its history. The old lady working upstairs with the feather duster was actually dressed in clothing of the era which added to the theme. This was a very nice place to visit if you are passing through Tyler.

Really cool place to visit when you’re in Tyler! Our tour guide told us that about 90% of the home is original items. You can really appreciate the history of the home.

Great place to go.and learn about historioy of the house and the Family that lived in House. And the lady that was in the house to tell us the stories of the Family that had lived there and we did a walking tour. These are 2 of them below. Let's see Your Pictures That You Get of The Goodman-LeGrand House. Hoping that you have enjoyed your trip here too. Donna's and Larry's great trip of a Beautiful House of Goodman-LeGrand House & Great Property. We enjoyed the Hour's and the stories of the Lady of the house.

This house is an absolute treasure trove of local history. Our docent (Debbie?) explained that all of the items in the house were owned by the handful of family members who lived there. So the medical tools, furniture, tin-type photographs, paintings, china, clothing, books, musical instruments.all were owned by the Goodman/LeGrand families who lived in that grand house. She also explained how the house started off life as a small dog-trot house, and showed all the additions and changes that have been made over the years. She knew everything!

But even if you go and don't have someone to tell you the stories, there are labels on all the things explaining what those things are and who used them. If history is your thing, do plan to spend 2-3 hours perusing all the things from the house itself and it's contents.

I've been to many historical homes around the country, it's rather my thing. And this is the most complete collection of original items I've ever seen. The next most complete is in Natchez, MS.

Highly recommend a tour! It's technically free (what?) but there's a suggested donation of a mere $3. Definitely worth it!

While my wife and I were visiting Tyler we went to see the Goodman - LeGrand Museum. The Lady that gave us the tour of the Museum was very nice, at that moment we were the only ones. The house was built in 1859 and everything in the house including Furniture, Clothes, Pictures, Painting and even the Wallpaper is original. Once she finished giving us the history of the Family and the House then on our own we would look at 1st and 2nd floor. She even told us that this House was the first house to have Electricity in the City of Tyler. The City of Tyler is a very nice place to visit. We are planning to go again soon.

Nice house to visit but disappointed the city does not keep up with tree and yard debris.house needs a paint job.good guide and reasonable price at gift shop.it seems city did not keep their word and part of 9 acre estate is not for the museum.

Very nice self guided museum. The ladies there were very knowledgeable about the history of the house. The museum is free but they accept donations to help with running and upkeep of the ground and house.
