Grins Restaurant reviews
19Very instant bees out on the patio but what do you expect if you sit outside? Otherwise, great food and drinks
Something must be up at Grins! My past experiences have been awesome! Today was not good at all. Service was bad and food terrible! I hope it’s just a bad day for them.
The BEST onion rings. There's no air conditioning so be prepared to sweat in the summer. The staff is friendly and the space is interesting with lots of sunlight and plants. A San Marcos staple.
I love Grins I've been going there since 1985 it is as a good now as it was then I go there every time I'm in San Marcos
I had Chicken fried steak & my wife had chicken fried chicken. Food was great! Service was perfect. We will return!
The Singing Women of South Texas had their Christmas fellowship there, service was excellent and the food was good. You should have a gathering there.
Very good food very good service very long wait time but well worth it. The food portions is more than expected I recommend the fish tacos fried!
We had the steak with green beans and baked potato Followed by carrot cake for dessert. If the carrot cake was outstanding and the steak and green beans were also good. It's in the middle of a college so expect more of a college atmosphere. Parking is on the slant of a hill.
So the chicken fried chicken was excellent, crispy and seasoned nicely, homemade lumpy mashed potatoes and cream gravy. The sangria flavored margarita was horrendous. Yes there was tequila in it, it was red, but that's it. Watered down kool-aid with a sugared rim! The Cajun grilled chicken was good, the frathouse ambiance not so great.
Staff was friendly.waitress was great.
Food was not to good today chicken fried steak was so tuff and dry
Sad that they over fried the Chicken Fried Steak on their Sunday Special. The kitchen did not have a customer or, as a matter of fact, a family member on mind when they put the crusty brown/black piece of meat on the platter.
The appetizers were delicious, we has the queso and onion rings. The onion rings were as big as dessert plates! The hamburgers and salads were okay.
Served old meat for the chicken fried steak so it was absolutely disgusting, I asked for a salad instead. This was the 2nd time ive been here and both times the food has been disgusting. It was also really hot in there and uncomfortable. We were sweating just sitting there, my infant daughter was dripping sweat.
The atmosphere is nice and comfy, it's a really cool building. Service was lackluster. Hubs food was wrong and the waitress blamed him. Onion rings were good and the burgers were ok. Had to eat them with a fork bc they were falling apart.
Food was tasty enough, typical greasy fare. The actual place itself was the best part. Great natural light and friendly staff.
Went for Sunday dinner. Had a great experience. The staff was friendly and attentive (thanks Mattie) and the food was prompt and hot. We had the grilled catfish, jalapeño burger and chicken fried steak and all were very good. Of note, the Mac-n-cheese at restaurants usually taste like it came from a can, but Grins version was great and I typically don't care for mac-n-cheese. I recommend this place and will be back.
It felt like Twin Peaks or Hooter little sister. I guess it's what you would expect for a college area. It was WARM. That might explain the outfits. The lettuce on the salads looked a little wilted but the food overall tasted fine. Ok crowd for weekday early afternoon. Waitresses looked embarrassingly warm but it didn't slow the service at all. Not great but not bad. Pretty ok.
Food was great. One of our guests didn't get his salad until everyone had almost finished our food
Very homey atmosphere, delicious food and prompt service! I would highly recommend this restaurant! Had a chicken fried steak w/ fries, green beans, a roll and a bowl of gravy. The steak was fried to a crisp perfection and you could taste the bacon flavor in the green beans! That with a large glass of tea for under $13.00.
