Houston Chronicle used to be great and the papers were delivered timely. When attempting to contact them, you are sometimes placed on hold and no one answers. They did deliver or redeliver the newspaper for the three weeks in a row. The rates were increased. Customer support assured me the paper would be delivered and it was not. When attempting to get a refund on the missed deliveries, you are refunded the lower rate of your new subscription and not the higher rate you already paid for the paper. I’m disappointed in how their service is after being a customer for many years. When you call to cancel they confirmed they cancelled your subscription, however you are still billed. When you call to confirm the cancellation, they do not remember or have a record that you wanted to cancel

My paper gets stolen half of the days. After at least 5 notifications the Chronicle can not get their delivery person to merely throw the paper over the fence

I recently signed up for a subscription but have yet to receive a newspaper. I asked who is responsible for delivering my paper and the customer service representative I spoke to today said that they don't have access to that information. I asked what happens if I don't receive my paper for a 5th day in a row, would someone look into the issue? He said he didn't understand my question. I feel like they are giving me the run around. I wish I would have read the reviews before subscribing.

Houston Chronicle has the worst customer service. They scam you to get signed up by paying only 25c and then they start charging your credit card every 4 weeks. If you want to cancel subscription you can’t since only way to do that is by calling them which you can’t since no one answers your call!

Got a 99 cent trial and wanted to cancel. They said I have to call back on the 29th a day before it cancels to do It. Todays the 21st and they charged me $21. Now I know how they make money, through scamming. Called them and the guy said he issued a refund but no one should go through this to begin with.

DO NOT EVER GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION! I signed up to read ONE article back in Feb/2023 & I immediately did what it said to cancel my subscription (they had a free promo going on & you had to cancel beforehand to not be charged). Imagine my surprise when I get a charge for $19.99 from the Houston Chronicle in the end of April. I immediately reached out via email and got an automated reply saying that they will get back to me in 2-3 days. I had to wait until they were open to call & try to get my money back.

I spoke with one gentleman, then asked for his supervisor. According to her, she COULDN'T DISCUSS THEIR POLICY & THEY DON'T REFUND digital subscriptions. I want to remind you, I had zero clue that I even had a subscription since I canceled it back in February. She absolutely refused to refund my money. I told her to check my account as it's obvious that I never used the service, but her comeback was, "You had the ability to use it. " How am I going to use a service that I have zero clue I have b/c I canceled it months ago?

Their customer service is the absolute worst. She could have refunded my money; she just chose not to. When I asked to speak to her boss, she said there was nobody higher than her. That's garbage. I've worked in the service industry most of my life & I know that "Supervisor" is not the top of the food chain in a call center. This company is shady as can be & their articles are certainly not worth this type of scam. You can read far superior writers on other news sites.

Please be aware that the Chronicle operates online subscriptions in the old "got ya on the hook" scheme where you have to call (during limited hours) and listen to 2 or 3 different people try to pitch you sales. Reputable companies that operate in the digital space allow customers to discontinue services via the same online portal that you signed up with.

Only 1 star b/c it's required to create a post, but I would prefer to leave a -5. I DID subscribe to one of my hometown newspapers but I'm SO disappointed with their fraudulent billing practices right now. I'm baffled as to whether the customer service even understands their own software or if they are just plain corrupt. Example: if I cancelled last quarter, 2022; why would they debit my card-not once but twice in the month of February, 2023 and then only agree to credit me HALF AND INSIST THAT IT'S MY FAULT. I think the FTC should be made aware of their Accounting practices with a class action suit inquiry and I'm reporting them today. These are fraudulent and unauthorized wire transfers.

Signed up for the Saturday paper with HC at Walmart, I have been charged $40 and have not seen one paper yet. Dispute it with the bank, got the money back and then they were charged it again. This is a scam if I’ve ever seen one.

I subscribed to Houston Chronicle for a few years, trying to do my bit to support quality local journalism. I decided a few months ago to stop as I see less and less quality unfortunately.

Trying to cancel is a deliberately complicated and drawn out affair as you have to phone to stop your subscription. First time I phoned, I waited around 15 minutes and spoke to a lady who said she cancelled it. They take another payment so I check online and it says I still have a subscription, so I phone again, another 15 minute wait on hold. The guy I spoke to was friendly and he tried to keep my business but at that point I’ve wasted 30 minutes of my life trying to cancel a newspaper subscription. He did get a refund for me for the extra month I paid, but it was a check with only a few days expiry on it so even with that they make it as difficult as they can. I will never subscribe to the Chronicle ever again on principle.

To top it off I keep getting sales calls from them asking me to resubscribe, on average every 2-3 weeks. I’m going to start blocking the numbers they call from.

Whoever is in charge of their sales and customer services will drive the paper into the ground by annoying their customers former customers so much.

LITTERING BULLIES! Houston Chronicle continues to litter "ads" on my private property. These ads were never requested. I have made a significant attempt to get them to stop harrassing me with their unwanted ads and littering. They WILL NOT stop. Our entire neighborhood is regulary littered with little plastic bags full of useless unwanted ads. Houston Chronicle does not care about our community or environment. DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!

I only went to corporate office to pick up the special edition of the newspaper after the astros won the world series. They people who managed the line were very helpful and maintained the flow of the traffic without any issue. I only waited for around 30 minutes but it wasn't that bad since the line were moving quickly and the payment process was straightforward. Great customer service, especially for this special occasion in Houston's sports history.

If you see anyone trying to sell you the Houston Chronicle in your local area grocery stores or other places. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR IT. I signed up for the Houston Chronicle Sunday paper to be delivered to my home on Sundays in September and I still have not received a paper. They stated we did not have the gate code. I gave them the gate code; confirmed it was correct on my third call to them and still no paper. I was told that I could not receive a refund because I signed up at kiosk. Wait; you mean the live kiosk that talked and took my money. Oh really. I have spoken to three different people and still no paper. They have complaints on the BBB website as well for this and other incidents. Please do not purchase this paper online or with their sales "kiosk".

I sent them a check in July for a subscription. It took them a while to cash the check. After receiving no deliveries for the newspaper I have been calling for the last three weeks to get the paper delivered. Today I called and asked for my money back only to be told since my subscription expired they cannot refund the money. Supposedly the supervisor whom I spoke to is going to try and get me a refund. Chances are they will not call back. I'm surprised at the 3.3 star rating. Everytime you call you waste at least 15 minutes to half an hour on the call and get no results.

I have had the worst experience, I have prepaid for this paper and have the worst experience they take your money promiseing to deliver, you get no papers no services, if I wanted to get robed I would have dealt with the Salvation Army an origination known for fraudulent actions, and coning and to steal in name of hovering/ Helping others at least I would have chosen deception!

I have tried all possible combinations of menu items on 3 different days during normal business hours. There appears to be no way to make connection with a human in the Houston Chronicle Reader Services Department. The interactive menu doesn't address my problem. Does anybody still work in the Houston Chronicle Reader Services Department? I'm branching out to other departments, now, in hopes that some phone in sales or upper management will have a human assigned to it.

The worst customer service. Unauthorized charges on credit card which should not have been used. Waited for more than 40 minutes on phone. Promised to issue refund but then additional charges appeared on the card statement. Will never trust anyone from this company. They are supposed to be representative of public. Instead, they are the robbers. Shame on the newspaper management for allowing such behavior.
