Ridiculously bad customer service.
I went to purchase about $200-300 worth of planters. The cashier went to ask the manager a question I had, and the manager (who was unloading a delivery truck) told him he didn't have time to answer my question. No time to relay a one sentence answer through his employee. Even "I don't know" would have been okay, but if my mangers ever told someone they "didn't have time" they'd be fired. Immediately.

This is what spending close to $200 on a Christmas tree (with tax and a base included) buys you at Houston Garden Center even after you keep it watered. It is December 27th and this is what my tree looks like after buying it after Thanksgiving! Throughout the month we could hear the needles drop and today when we took off the decorations, we saw just how bad it really was. My wife thought the tree looked spray painted when we bought it but I dismissed the thought thinking that no respectable organization would do that. Upon closer inspection, I believe my wife was right as you could see patches of what appears to be paint. My thought is that these trees were completely brown but to sell them they just quickly sprayed them green to make them appear fresh. It's the only conclusion I could come to since this tree never drank water and looks like it's been dead for months. Needles don't fall off like this unless the tree is REALLY dead.

Take a look at the first photo to see what we originally bought and then compare it to the last photo taken today, roughly 4 weeks later.

I will never go back to Houston Garden Center and I will make it a point to actively campaign against this company unless I am refunded. I may even contact the news as this is just ridiculous.

Shameful!

If I could give zero stars, I would. We purchased a tree two weeks ago from the 1960 location in Humble and the very first day it began losing TONS of needles. My husband took it back this week because, by now, it is just a bunch of twigs with NO pine needles left, couldn't even hang an ornament without the entire limb losing every pine needle. He was told "oh you have to call corporate", so he did and sent pictures, explained the problem and we have YET TO HEAR BACK FROM ANYONE. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, EQUALLY HORRIBLE TREES. I will NEVER purchase from them again. Shame on you for not even trying to rectify this situation. Also, this was not a $20 tree, it was $150.

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS PLACE OR BUY FROM THEM! If I could give NO stars I would!
First of all they do not care about the people that work for them! They will only let you work 12-15 hours a day, no less, then they make the schedule day to day and inform you that your on the schedule the night before or day of. Even on your one day off. Then, if you quit because of how they do things, they will not mail your check to you, YOU have to MAIL them a stamped envelope with a copy of your i.d to get them to mail it to you! Their has to be a law against them holding your money and earning interest off your money because they wont mail it to you. Then, if you dont have your id because you accidentally left it at home but you have a picture of it, which they took a copy of it when you were hired, they wont let you pick it up in person. But if you mail them a copy, they will mail your check!? What sence does that make!?
When a business doesn't care about their employees like this, we as a public should not buy from them! We should support the ones that support the ones that put so much into making their business work!

The owner Mather Hooper and this whole company is a joke. They discriminate against certain types of customers. I used to work there, so I know for a fact they do.

While the prices and inventory here is often enticing and worth coming for, the service is not! All of the employees walk around like their pet was just run over and they avoid eye contact with you. They definitely are not service orientated at this location at least. So be prepared to do a lot of walking around to find someone to serve you that actually will show even the slightest of interest in serving you. Be prepared to load plants on your cart yourself and in your vehicle. Very disappointing experiences. Much prefer to spend more and go to Cornelius and enjoy top notch service.

Some of their plants are good, others are diseased and puny. Their sale prices are good, but the company policy is hostile toward customers. There is never anyone available to answer simple questions, like "do you have Lady Banks roses in stock? " And, the only phone number listed on the internet is their corporate office that closes hours before the stores close. So, after 5 pm, it isn't possible to find phone numbers to call their many locations to find out if Lady Banks roses are available anywhere.

I ask myself if it is worth the trouble to shop there, and I'm answering myself, "no! " I'll try Cornelius instead.

I love this place because they provide a vast selection of plants, trees, flowers for the lowest prices I have seen in Houston. I was able to fill up the back of my SUV with what I needed to spruce up my front yard for under $50. If you dont mind a zero frills environment and just care about quality product and price this is your best bet.

I love coming here for my plants and garden needs. But on this visit, the shelves was not stocked or products not pushed upfront. But the plants mostly looked good and you cant beat their 50% sale. They are always having weekly specials. You come here for the many special deals and annual 50% sales on plants and pots. They are friendly and will help out customers when asked nicely. The manager Steve knows a great deal on plants and products. But this is a nursery, better to get all your infos on the plants or products before buying or coming.

Witnessed dreadful treatment of a customer by "Michel" at the register today. As i walked up to check out, there was a woman at the front of the nursery facing the register rather than following the line from the traditional back to front direction. I asked if she were waiting to check out. Michel cut me off saying she couldn't check out until she moved to the back of the line. He never addressed her directly. There had only been a single shopper in front when I joined the line. She was not attempting to cut in line, but didn't realize she was waiting from the wrong direction. I offered for her to get in front of me since she had been there first. She declined telling him it was a shame she learned of her error from another customer rather than the employee. He continued to ignore her. At that time another employee walked up, opened a 2nd register & helped her. Every other employee there was helpful & friendly. This man, however, is a total jerk.

Re: Holzwarth location
I find it interesting that they don’t answer their phone (disconnects after 10 rings) AND there is no email or contact us information?

None of their locations well answer the phone to answer any questions. Then When you call the corporate office because none of the locations answers their phone they Confirm they will not answer their phones at any location so why lost them online? Then when you ask a price for something you want to buy a lot of they tell you they will not give a price over the phone that you have to go in in person. Congratulations I don’t care if I did pay more you just lost a large order. I’ve have only shopped here a few times before and.the service was so bad each time I didn’t think I would go back - this cements the fact that I will not be going back.

Staff here were very nice. So glad I went here - go here for plants! Not a high end nursery with horticulturists, but I was not expecting that anyway. I thoughts the plants were well priced but the pots, mulch, etc were pricey. They have more zone-appropriate regional based plants than Home Depot, which basically sells what it sells everywhere else in U. S. (I just moved from Chicago, was a bit disappointed with the Depots selection here.) I think they fill their niche nicely, the staff was nice. If you need horticulture/gardening advice find a more high end nursery.

NOT WORTHY OF EARNING YOUR BUSINESS! Customer service and treatment is Very Poor! NO transparency, staff employed at a store that sells products such as Plants are not knowledgeable, DO NOT CARE, apathetic, and shows NO COMMITMENT to helping customers! They DO NOT provide clear instructions/explanation about anything! THEY DO NOT VALUE customers! TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. Houston Garden Center do NOT deserve your hard-earned dollar!

Customer service is foul, Management is terrible. My boyfriend has come home with blisters on the back of his neck from do to severe sunburn. I gave him aloe to bring to the job. And they threw it away. He no longer works @ the Houston garden center. Another experience today, my boyfriend called to ask a question, And the lady was being a complete b! Tch. Excuse my profanity but it’s the honest truth. Sorry if you guys aren’t having a good day but doesn’t give you the right to treat your customers like sh! T. These places deserve ZERO ratings.
