Climbing in Hueco Tanks provides a kinesthetic joy that works in conjunction with mental fortitude. Ascension in Hueco typically results in the diminishing security of foam and spotters. The syenite rock forms difficult puzzles but is vulnerable to technique and sometimes, gymnastic ability. Hueco has become a blend of paradoxes between liberation and regulation. We must respect and follow the important guidelines set forth as closure of areas are imminent and dependent on the actions of the frequenting visitors. This sacred Mecca has a deep rich history, it is up to us to preserve it.

Police and fake cops/metro rangers everywhere. Great place if you like barbed wire, gentrification, and rule books. Looks like they spent a billion to line up rocks, barbed wire, and cheesy man made landscaping. They could have had a nice NATURAL setting, now they have a cheap country club hiking trail where you don't want to dress too dark. Plenty of cell phone service and trail cams so that you can be reported for having too much fun. Felt mostly post apocalyptic, it was just me and a lot of rangers snooping on me. Seems like what all the state parks are turning into. I would love to see a bill on what they spent on these parks vs.the increase in revenue because of the rwight "improvements. " Glad the more prone to sunburn tourists like it more. The rock formations are beautiful. Overall 2 stars.

This place is a gem. Has hiking trails and history learned from the early inhabitants here. We enjoyed the climb and the beautiful sunset. Staff are polite and helpful. If you like some moderate hiking then come to this place.

My favorite state park near El Paso. Worth the drive. Great place for quite, solitude hike. Interesting history. The geography is like no other place.

The experience almost turned sour due to the rudeness of the office staff. One lady made me feel stupid, as she she embarrassed me in front of other people in line. I wrote my licence plate in the wrong blank, she made a sarcastic remark. No need for that kind of disrespect.

Fantastic geology, history, botany and ornithology. The "tanks" are natural catchments for rain water, which means.there are mosquitoes. If you are sensitive to mosquito bites, apply bug repellent before venturing out.

I had already registered online and it took the person 15 or more minutes to register me for my campsite. Then I had to watch a 17 minute film which I understand but then interpretive ranger had to go through things also.

I believe they go a little too far in restricting you during the day and when you're there already making you sign up the next morning again to go hiking when you're already camping in the facility.

Drive was about 45 minutes from downtown El Paso to the ranger station. Beautiful drive about 15 minutes before entering the actual park. If you enjoy looking at rocks/boulders, this is the place to go. Everywhere you look, there's amazing views. If this is your first time, you'll need to watch a video about the history and preservation, this is valid for one year. It is 7$ per person. Rangers are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Went in the early morning, make sure to pack water, hikes are short, but there is not much shade. A great place to learn and explore, a section is only available for self guided tours, there are guided tours available that let you explore more of the park. Definitely recommend going to this hidden gem. Encountered a few folks that were bouldering. A very family friendly place. Really appreciate all the that has been done to make sure this area is preserved and well maintained for many, many more generations to enjoy. There were lots and lots of wildflowers throughout the trails. Also, beware of the rattle snakes, saw two in the early morning, be alert, give them their space.

Hueco Tanks is peace itself. It’s a way to connect with nature away from it all, and it is full of history. They let you hike on your own in a specific area, or you can sign up for guided tours. Best option is to make reservations at their Austin #, otherwise, you have to wait at the gate for no-shows/ cancellations. You’ll see ancient drawings on the boulders, and lots of wildlife! Going hiking after it has rained (and it’s safe) is really the best time to go. You’ll see the little huecos (hollows) filled up with water, and it makes the whole place smell great

This has to be one of the most interesting places I have gone to in a long time. If you are visiting El Paso and you want something fun and different to do. You've got to try this! Even this 55 year old was able to get around and see some wonderfully magical ecosystems in the caves and climb to the top to see these beautiful views.

Beautiful place for hikes and scenery. Just watch out for Rattle snakes. We found one on the rocks and there was lots of rattling around us after that as we tried to get back. We only did the self guided tour. To be on the safe side, I would recommend snake shoes for any future hikes on this location.
