My family and I had a fantastic time with Ice and Golf Center at Northwoods at their “try hockey for free” event. We registered online. We were told well in advance what we needed to bring (which was minimal). The parking lot was adequate at seems to be well maintained. We were greeted at the door to help direct us to where we needed to go. Even though it was crowded, there was a distinct order and was very easy to know what was to be done next. The facility was nice. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. They have a good set of rental skates. We had an absolutely fantastic experience.

This is the first time my family has ice skated here and we had a great time.the skates are hard plastic with soft inside liner.so ur ankles can't turn in.

It's the only rink you'll be able to find in San Antonio. But that's fine; it's a great place and they take good care of the ice compared to other places I've been. I started out here last year taking adult lessons and have been coming multiple times per week ever since. Most of the staff are lovely people. Some drawbacks (why this is 4 stars instead of 5) : 1) half the coaches never got the memo that it's rude and inappropriate to address adults as "girls" 2) they reverse directions halfway through the weekend and Wednesday night public sessions so if you're a counter clockwise jumper like me, you'll have like half a session to practice anything substantial (if you're not though, then go! This half is not a drawback for you *thumbs up*)
Update: downgraded to a 3 because they're crowded all the time and they probably could do something to prevent people from skating through the middle of the ice (like putting up cones designating an area for spins and jumps) or just generally being reckless but they don't and it's basically chaos if you go any day except the middle of the day during a school week. (Also the food is terrible but I eat it anyway sometimes. The pizza rolls are passable.) Also the freestyle times are really inconvenient for anyone working a 9-5 job.
Update #2: Don't ever email a suggestion to them unless you want to feel pretty bad. You know the staff and most of the coaches are good people, but after coming here consistently for over a year I'm starting to get the feeling that the owners ONLY care about money and that they're willing to do things like sell more admissions to the rink than is actually advisable and safe at any given time to maximize profits. Just be cautious and use your judgement.
Edit: Every time coach Nick is there taking over the entire center of a public session, Northwoods should give me a damn refund.

Recently found this diamond in the rough. Between the minigolf and the iceskating this place is awesome to visit!

Goid facility. Great spots for viewing game. Was told the ice is good but the boards were odd, puck took some unexpected bounces off the boards. The concession stand was good and they have pro shop. SA is lucky to it, wish there were 2 sheets of ice instead of one

Skates are very worn. I know that would seem expected but its as if they have never been changed or maintained very well.

If you enjoy a really nice ice rink with plenty of quality junk food for the kids. Great place. I love it here. They also have very helpful staff out on the ice to help others, they are amazing and kind.

Worst ice skating rink ever! Overcrowded and their rental skates are the worst in the industry. I am a very experienced skater. Growing up I worked in a rink and played hockey for over ten years. This rinks skates have absolutely NO padding. Your feet literally start hurting as soon as you put the skates on. I slayed with my kids for 15 mins before my son and I couldn't continue. My daughter was a trooper and skated for 45 mins but complained her feet were hurting the entire drive home. Don't skate here.

I came from cold upstate NY- hockey was $3 per person and they sharpened your skates for you for $2
Man I cannot believe how pricey this place is, choppy ice, I felt like I was skating for the first time Bc I fell so many times- and I encourage BRING your own ice skates- my friends poor feet hurt so bad- brush up please on smoothing the ice, sharpening the blades for rental and maybe lowering the price- THIS IS WAYYYY too HIGH and beware- landline of ppl — Omgosh an accident waiting to happen

Used to go so often, loved it. Admittedly, it's gone a bit downhill, but was incredible to get back out. I do feel they should reopen the red rink rather than have soccer, as it'd probably cut crowds down. Might even make them need to smooth the ice less, having less people like that.
Still, I loved getting out. The ice is amazing, staff is friendly and helpful, and while skate sharpening is expensive, it's forth it for the only rink in town.

Staffing is young and needed some guidance towards more of a people friendly attitude. If anything just smile and nod

I can understand the ice being rough from some use, but it looked like it hadn't been smoothed all day before they packed it for the free skate time. There was a "Safety" person on either end of the rink, but there was no organization to the madness and a few people almost got skated over when they fell. Add to that the screams of kids getting scared by their parents and some of the other teens made for a nerve racking experience.

The kids like it. However, the person coordinating birthday parties is rude. If you visit here for a party don't expect to bring gifts inside unless the party is in one of their party rooms. If it looks like a party you're pretty much told to break it up. The food in the refreshments area is pretty bad and overpriced. All the hot things are just microwaved from having been frozen. The mini-golf side has two courses, both outside & pretty good compared to others in the area. The ice skating rink is well kept.

As a former figure skater I was very disappointed when they said they don’t do ice skate rentals, only hockey skate rentals. Many might not know the difference but if you want to really ice skate you need ice skates not hockey skates. Very disappointed and got a refund.

Very fun. Comfortable seating in the concessions area for watching skaters through a huge plate glass window. Attendants are very quick to help those trying to get back on their feet. The ice is kept smooth by a quick break mid session.

We go at least once a month for the mini golf course! Super fun time and great for dates or time out of the house with friends or family!

Always great and friendly staff! Nick, Dale, Tory and most of the other staff have always been really friendly, outgoing and helpful. There is one kid there who always seems to be rude for no apparent reason but we just ignore him. Otherwise, it's a great place to be!

The workers are always ready to help you if you fall on the ice. Expect to be made to get off the ice for 5-10 minutes in order for them to re-ice/re-pave the ice for a smooth surface.

Great time. Never been ice skating before, but the staff and even the customers were nice. Very good atmosphere.

I have brought my kids here several times, havnt had any issues but today the staff was exceptionally rude, my daughter came to skate for her bday with some friends, we followed the rules and didnt do a party without renting their very overpriced party room. One of the children brought a gift for my daughter and right away we were confronted by the "party coordinator". She was upset so we put it in the car and moved on but the way she acted was rude and unnecessary. We also bought food from there concession stand, literally the took frozen food and microwaved it, which made it stale and gross and charged way to much for what they offered. I was very disappointed on the customer service today and the tense atmosphere the party coordinator created for our family. I will think again before coming back here.
