Jimmy Vega's Smokehouse reviews
14My wife and I got a plate of brisket (plenty of smoke flavor) and ribs. Vinegar slaw was savory and the cracked corn hit the spot. They have many albums to choose from, listened to CCR and Styx for dinner. An excellent time was had. We will be back next week.
The new location on University is amazing! Kept the same flair from the old location and made it better. Easy to get to now, way more parking and the food is still amazing. Had the chicken tortilla soup last night.so good!
Jimmy's does a fantastic job melding the skills of classicly trained chefs with those of barbeque pit masters. It's not just Texas barbeque, or St Louis barbeque, Kansas barbeque, or Carolina barbeque. It's Jimmy's barbeque - comfort food - cooked on two huge pits built with Jimmy's own hands. All served by friendly folks in a converted quaint old Georgetown home near the historic downtown square.
I am 74 years old and have eaten plenty of barbecue. This barbecue was the best that I have ever eaten. It gets an A plus plus. The atmosphere and decor are outstanding and the staff is super. I will eat there every time that I visit Georgetown.
I love Jimmy Vega's! Took my daughter's little family there yesterday for their first time! The Philly steak sandwich special was AMAZING! My son-in-law said this is his new favorite barbeque spot!
My daughter took me here for lunch Saturday. I love BBQ and this was THE best I’ve ever had! Try the sampler plate! Brisket, ribs, and sausage along with sides were on my plate and it was all wonderful! Thank you! We will be back!
Read the reviews and was really excited to give it a try. But it fell short! The brisket I had had such a crust on it it was inedible. The bbq sauce was cold. The Mac and cheese. The potato salad was all mustard, undercooked potatoes and no seasoning. All I can say it was a disappointment.
I've been looking forward to the new location. The old one was out of the way but worth it! The space is better here, the charm intact. The server was enthusiastic and welcoming. The mac&cheese was spectacular. But the actual BBQ fell short of their standards. Both the brisket and sausage were Sahara dry. Not one drop of juice between the servings. Had to leave it behind, which kills me to waste it.
BUT, I will just call this a bad day at the office for now and will try again in the future. They've been too good for too long to let that happen again.
Over priced and portion were to small the brisket was dry and lacks flavor, the sausage had a good taste but portion was to small for the cost even the sides were small. I don't recommend and don't expect them to be in business very long.
I had the pulled pork and two sides. The pork was very tasty! My sides were creamed corn and banana pudding, which was rich and flavorful. The cookies tasted homemade, but I would have liked some on the bottom, not just the top. The portions were very generous, and the young woman at the counter was very helpful and sweet.
Not your run-of-the-mill BBQ joint. I loved the savory crust on the brisket. The German potato salad was warm & flavorful. And the rum-braised apples (?) were delicious I am not particularly enamored with BBQ (especially bbq sauce), but I loved their white sauce! It was tangy & mustardy & not overpoweringly sweet. In fact, nothing we had was loaded with sugar, which I appreciate.
The proprietors were welcoming & friendly, taking time to converse with us about their vinyl record collection. We will definitely be back!
We got the "what's good here platter" and everything was darn tasty. Really the best bbq for the money and the staff are super friendly!
Excellent bbq
Had brisket, sausage, bacon, mac&cheese, and banana pudding.
All were great.
Sides were beyond expectations, all house made.
Pickles appear to be house made too and are very good.
All in a nice setting.
This place will be getting more popular, was no crowd/line but I would expect that to change.
Brisket was dried out & cold, when I took it back the replacement brisket was a little warm & rubbery. The "jimmy's beans" are clearly a day or two old & luke warm, the "no slaw" is just flat out bad!
So disappointed! I thought G'town finally had a good BBQ restaurant-not!
