La Gloria reviews
17 The staff and waiters were great.food on the other hand was verry average even below average. Enjoyed experiencing the place but would not recommend it if good food is what your prioritizing or looking for.
For a drink the Michelangelo is average as well.does not get made with clamato or tomato juice.mainly Maggie and soy sauce blend with secret "recipe blend" as rhe waiter called it.
Again, place treated us well but the food is just not something I'd come back for or recommend
Our order included:
Some- chicharon
Enchiladas Verdes
Quesadilla con queso
Kids hotdogs
Bean and cheese taco
3 of us wanted to sit outside and ask the bartender if we could. Told us to go inside, made it seem like we were bothering him. Not speaking clearly, he then just said, "Sit where you want. I'll go get her. " Not getting a straight answer out of him, we sat.
I walked back to the bar and politely asked him, "Im sorry man, do we need to go inside and speak to the hostess? " He then pointed his finger at the hostess who just so happned to be walking out of the doors and said, "Talk to her. " In a tone that was annoyed. I thanked him. Told the hostess we didn't know we needed to go on and if it was okay to sit where we were. Her attitude wasn't much better than the bar tenders.
The waitress was sweet, promt, and attentive.
We order a quesadilla and a torta. Let me tell you when I say the portion size and flavor were below par, it is an understatement. The quesadilla is one tortilla folded in half. The meat inside the torta was dry and lacked basic flavor. I had to add flavor with the salsa.
I had been here years ago and enjoyed myself. This time, I was very disappointed.
On a side note. If you're in from out of town and want some good mexican or texmex food at a great price. This is not that place. I can only hope their maragritas are still great.
What I have always loved about this place is the location and the outside seating. Unfortunately, I will probably never be going back. Nor will I be recommending this place anymore.
Went on a Tuesday afternoon. It was fairly busy however the service was still good. Parking is super convenient, super affordable, IF you can find an open spot. There is a parking garage nearby. The food was fantastic. Very flavorful and much more authentic than anything on the Riverwalk. The Pearl area is really nice and there are plenty of options to walk around and enjoy the area.
The first time I went here it was just okay. This is the second time that I visited and the fish was bland, the molcajete was good but needed some sides to go with it and a little bit more flavoring. The ceviche was very good in the drink was average. If I were to go here again I would just get the ceviche. The salsa is not chunky and thin yet had a good amount of spice to it.
Food is not the best and the service was horrible. It took over 10 min just for the server to say hi she said to give her a min and she took another 10 min she came back with waters no straws or napkins we order our food and drinks at the same time she never came back until the food was at our table but the whole time she was talking and making conversation with another table but never talked to us we order two Pepsis never got them. For the quality of food and the horrible service you can find better a better place to eat
The food was fine. The menu was unique. I liked the Tacos al Pastor without onions, but they were pretty plain and don't come with anything on the side. You should order something to go with them like guac or beans (see pic). The chips and salsa weren't enjoyable. Even though the chips had a good light crispiness to them, they were overcooked, and the salsa needed more tomato base in it. The vegetarian tostada was small for $6 and looked like it was mostly iceberg lettuce. If you like mayonnaise, the elote (corn on the cob) looked unique. The enchiladas verdes de queso looked like it was all sauce for $14, but I didn't taste it. The margaritas were good and not weak, but nothing special. The location is nice, next to the river, but we were seated at a table where we couldn't see the river; so ask for a table with a view. The patio had an enjoyable atmosphere and was nicely decorated. Our waiter was a little weird (thought he was funny when he wasn't and we felt like we had to laugh at him), but the manager was really nice. It was hard to find a Mexican restaurant with a river view and good reviews that wasn’t overpriced! I would probably come here again for that reason, but I would bring my own chips and salsa.
The food was okay. Nothing above and beyond, completely overpriced in my opinion. It is by the river walk and the pearl, so I can understand the location makes the prices high. But the food definitely doesn’t match the price.
Top shelf Rita tasted like sugary lime syrup-no tequila, Ranch Water with the Topo Chico upcharge tasted like lime and tap water-no tequila, elote in a cup had zero flavor. We went for drinks after dinner at Southerleigh, expected more out of the location with the quality of food at the Pearl. Huge miss for us, and we generally appreciate the effort behind the aim for quality. Did not see it here, maybe a bad night?
We were looking forward to eat there, always seem too busy, so last week we decided its time to go. The server was very fast with the order and the food was in the table in short time, like 10 minutes or less. Here is where it went south for us. We ordered some street style tacos and some were good some subpar, the bistec was good but the al pastor were not and they were very expensive for what it is. The molcajete (skirt steak) seemed that was prepared a while ago, like yesterday and re-heated. The chips were re-heated from a bag, it seems that they are ordered ahead from a food supplier. As for the ambience, is pure drinking ambience, people that go here for drinks are less demanding about food it seems. The place its too hot for summer with a semi open dinning room. And the price! Way over priced, north of 130.00 for 4 people for 3 orders of tacos, one entre and sodas (no alcohol). And the tip choices are 20-30%. Why are we subsidizing the hard working servers? Should the owner pay them more? With those prices you would think they should, I guess is becoming the norm. Want Mexican food? Street tacos? They are better and less expensive locations. Don't believe me? Give it a try.sober.
So about a week ago I went to this establishment for lunch with a friend. I expressed an allergy to the waitress so that I can get recommendations. She goes to her manager and he explains that the rice and a few other things is made with it so then i try to order accordingly. Asking for all sauce on the side because I didn’t know what they were made of. She brings my food out and it’s covered in sauce (that i asked for on the side because of my allergy) and i tell her that i asked for it on the side she proceeds to tell me to “JUST TRY IT”. At that point I was extremely worried and frustrated because if someone is expressing their condition to you why on earth would you tell them to just try something that could potentially harm them really bad or even kill them. It was a very insensitive response and very uncalled for. Safe to say I won’t be back
So my friends and I found La Gloria while exploring the Pearl. We were drinking at the Blue Box and needed to eat something. We would’ve been fine with anything but we were amazed at the level of service, the atmosphere and THE FOOD! I kept telling the server to thank the chef for me because it was that Good! The Sopes and the tostadas with calamari! I was floating in taste heaven! 10/10 and I will definitely return this time just to have a full experience with drinks!
My server seemed like she hated her job, had a bad attitude, was so rude & made it seem like the questions I had about the menu were an inconvenience to her. I have never experienced such terrible service from someone & i will never be returning to this establishment again thanks to Tina.
This was our best dining experience on our trip yet. A peaceful place to sit under the trees by the Riverwalk, but not by the touristy areas, The food was fantastic, the elote the best we've ever had! Great margs and good service!
I cant remember a time when I’ve had better Mexican food. Starting from the chips and salsa before the meal which were crispy and well seasoned all the way to the entree I got which was an enchilada. Usually I don’t enjoy shredded chicken but this was actually very good and not dry or too wet. Not the typical refried beans you get at other places either which was great. I got a side of elote as well. Again everything was seasoned and cooked so well. I grew up in southern Florida and have had pretty good Mexican food but this was definitely the best. Great atmosphere and location also.
If possible I wouldn’t even give this location one star. Not only was my server Tina rude but the cook made my order wrong 3 TIMES! I would never recommend this restaurant to any of my family or friends. PERIODT
Food is too expensive for what is worth. Beans were so salty that we didn’t eat them. Mole enchiladas didn’t taste good cause the chicken tasted blended and no favor. Tacos were blended too. We payed over $50 which we could have pay less plus good food at a hole in the wall restaurant. Do not plan to dine there ever again.
Conflicted with how to rate this place. Food and drinks were pretty good, but the service was beyond terrible. Took forever for our waiter to even come talk to us. After he took our order he completely disappeared. Another person brought out our food. We were annoyed and then he acted upset as if we were the problem. Better luck going somewhere else. Other tables around us seemed to get better service.
