Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site reviews
18It's not really worth a drive but maybe if you were already going to be in Johnson city and you wanted to see a Buffalo.
Great experience visiting the ranch and taking the tour with the park service. Learned a lot from his presentation. Grounds were very well kept and preserved. Mind boggling just how large his ranch is.
From Bison to Air Force One-Half and a swimming pool, this has it all. Camping close by and the little town of Stonewall. You could spend days here trying to see everything or just do the self guilded driving tour and you can be on your way to a winery in about an hour and a half.
There are two parks and the they are both beautiful and well maintained. Lots of areas for picnics or discovery - especially with kids.
We've been to this park a couple of times over the years. This was the first time we saw any bison, definitely interested the kids. The Texas Whitehouse was closed to visitors on the other side of the park, but there's still plenty to see overall. LBJ is a great place for a relaxing and possibly educational visit.
This was way more than I expected from a park I had heard nothing about. I had no idea the amount of history and knowledge associated with it. A must see if your in the area. Great for kids and adults!
This is a driving tour of a part of his ranch. The national park service owns only 600 acres of the working ranch but you see the school he attended (moved there) also his birth home, his grandparents home, show barn, airstrip, plane (called Air Force One-half and the main house. The house is currently closed for repairs but you can walk around the grounds.
Some flat trail for walking.museum has items from LBJ days (old automobile, a plane, and antique stuff). Fun for a day trip with kids. There's some farm animal on property, and long horn. Ample parking, not many people when I went on a weekend.
This was a wonderful, slightly ghostly place. We came on a Monday when most of the buildings were closed but the payoff was having the place absolutely to ourselves. Very special. The staff at the visitor center were terrific. It was all we could do to resist jumping into the President's pool.
Very INTERESTING AWESOME AMAZING PARK, CLEAN, THE VOLUNTEER FOLKS ARE VERY FRIENDLY, INFORMATIVE, BUT THEIR BIG SMILES MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE, THEY MAKE YOU FEEL AS YOU ARE PART OF THE FAMILY! I LEARNED HOW TO MAKE BUTTER AND IT IS VERY GOOD ON MY BISCUITS:)
A rainy day but the ranch was very interesting, there was a small airforce one on the property. The American people built him a runway and later expanded it.
Cattle still feed here, many are defendants from that period.
The nearby town of Johnson was founded by Family immigrants from Germany. Eateries and brewing/wineries companies are there to enjoy.
Much of the park was closed during our visit for road repairs in the park. Check before going. When fully open it is a beautiful place to take a break, stretch your legs and enjoy the bike oak and pecan trees!
Love this place. We took our grands and they love it too. Too bad it was mostly closed due to construction we had been unaware of.
The state park has walking trails through beautiful meadows of wildflowers. It's absolutely beautiful when the flowers bloom. There is also a small museum about LBJ.
Wounderful StatePark with so much history behind it did bbq after such a long time and kids loved it. Staff at visitor center explained all about park very well which helped us to arrange our day trip perfectly. Best part to see baby bison playing around.
Great park which is separate from the national park and may be open when the national park is closed on Mondays for tours.they have a nice museum and farm with people dressed in period costumes.no charge to get in.just stop by visitors center for a free permit. They also have a state Jr ranger program. Great stop.you go right from here to the national park) ranch.
Good site to learn more about LBJ's Texas roots. Be sure to check out some of the letters written to LBJ while he was in office.
A must visit for every FFA member or would be. The working early settlers farm was a treat with all the daily chores and activities on display. The guides are truly knowledgeable and genuinely enjoy demonstrating life from before “Apps. ” This is a great start to your visit (kids will love it) which you should follow with a visit to the LBJ Ranch National Historic Park just across the River. On the way, stop and see the wild flowers and think “Thank You” to Lady Bird Johnson who championed wild flower planting long before being pro-conservation was mainstream!
