Madai Sushi, Frisco TX

I came here with a friend last weekend based on his recommendation. This restaurant used to be a Thai restaurant and had either a change of ownership or expanded their menu. Anyways, when we arrived, we were welcome fairly quickly and asked where we wanted to sit. Originally, we decided the bar area but ended up moving to a table nearby. Our waiter, Sean, greeted us and provided us with 2 menus - a paper one and a more descriptive menu with pictures and ingredients. We were also served warm water with lemon in a mug. Sean was helpful in giving his recommendations when we wanted to decide our order. We ordered Veggie Egg Rolls for our appetizer. We also added on a Bonsai Roll, Cosmo Roll, Wasabi Caviar, and Quail Eggs.

We received the Veggie Egg Rolls fairly quickly. It was served fresh and hot. The pastry in itself was very flaky and I enjoyed the bite of the egg roll. It went really well with the duck sauce. Next, we received the Bonsai Roll and Cosmo Roll. The Bonsai Roll had spicy yellowtail and avocado in the middle, and was topped with albacore tuna. I really enjoyed the ponzu sauce on the side of the plate and it tasted fresh. I generally lean more towards smoked salmon when I get sushi so the Cosmo Roll was interesting. The Cosmo Roll had cream cheese and smoked salmon. The exterior of the roll was lightly fried with some tempura batter so it added some sweetness. The crunch and texture was really good. This was probably my most favorite roll of the 2.

My friend had never had caviar before so we originally ordered the black caviar because we noted that we indicated it was buttery in the menu. Unfortunately, we were informed that the black caviar had run out so they offered Tobiko (red caviar) and Wasabi Caviar. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of wasabi in excess so I was hesitant towards it. My friend, however, is a huge fan so we ended up getting it. I was very very surprised by the taste. The wasabi was not overpowering and it was surprisingly good when served with the nori. I’d love to give the black caviar a try. We also ordered quail eggs and that was new for me. They were served with the top taken off and a mixture of sauces were added on top. As soon as I took this “shot”, I made a face. I wasn’t sure if it was the mixture of sauces, but it was definitely an experience. If you’ve never had quail eggs, I’d recommend giving this a try.

Ultimately, I plan to go here again. My experience here was quite nice, and I look forward to trying other dishes. I also have to thank Sean, our waiter, for being patient and very helpful. We received top notch service from him!

I go here quite often for lunch and dinner. The food is super yummy. I think they put a lot of effort into each dish. It seems they use quality ingredients. In addition, each of their team members is especially friendly, courteous, and just real nice to be around—every time. I will keep coming back.

You cannot go wrong with the rolls here. Quality is high here. Also the curries are amazing! Service is always good. So glad this place is close by.

One of those rare combinations of good food, fair pricing, with excellent service in a clean environment. Highly recommend!

Very impressive. Got the Sashimi Bento Box for lunch. Quick might I add. The fish was succulent. And I honestly got very full. It was a perfect meal. I hope to be back soon.

We discovered Madai during pandemic. So glad they survived the unprecedented difficult time as a local owned restaurant.

From only allowed to ordering takeout back then to now dining in is an option, our experience has always been great here.

and their freshly made sushi rolls.

All staffs were friendly, efficient and attentive. Sean and Elliott always took excellent care of us.

If you haven't tried Madai, please do. Highly recommend.

This place is not directly visible from the street, but has so many sushi options compared to our usual places! I'm very satisfied with both dine in and take out. I've been here twice now and will be back again!

I'm eager to try the Thai food.

Every time I go here the customer service is so great, always fresh sushi, and the drunken noodles are divine. Each time I come in they greet me by name and its such an inviting cozy place.

The place is friendly and family oriented with a vibe that transport visitors across the Pacific ocean to a Thai/Oriental place thay has a vibe that keeps me coming back for more and more. The servers are gentlemen of character and present themselves with professionalism. I generally get the Padwusen (forgive my spelling) on every order paired with a quest to try somethi g new on each visit. If you are in the McKinney area looking for a good Thai place with a unique take on various sushi dishes. Please stop by!

Outstanding food and service. Presentation of Tuna Sashimi was 10/10, and service was engaging and personable - exceeded expectations in every way. Highly recommend - unassuming and AWESOME all around

Always great staff with tables available.
Each time I have ate in. Always a large group of over 8. Served fast and friendly. Never rushed getting out.

Food has always been amazing, we order most of the menu.

Solid neighborhood sushi shop. It was odd that I had to ask for my own wasabi and ginger. Tom yum had very large vegetables, so maybe they should be chopped. Friendly staff. Decent sushi.

We go here quite often. My daughter loves the Alaskan Roll Sushi I've not had anything I didn't like from the menu. The staff are very friendly and know us by name when we dine in. Great place for a quick take out as well!

If you are headed here for sushi, it was great. The two apps we purchased were awful sadly. Again, will be headed back for the sushi.

This was first time we went to this Japanese and sushi bar. Although sushi looked so tempting but we decided to try other things first. So we ordered Tom-Yum soup and some dumplings. All the food tastes good and flavourful. I wish we could have said 1 on spice level. Ambience was great, colorful and clean. Cozy environment, not a big place for sitting but there was decent space. We will go again and explore some sushi.

Disappointed with the service. Only one server working, took about 10 minutes to be welcomed and given a menu. Waited about 15 more minutes while other customers were greeted promptly and given drinks. Once they took orders of two people who came in after, I left.

The best place for quick, fast pick up. I love their basic rolls and fried rice. They also carry a wonderful plum sake called moonstone. I personally like to pick up rather than go inside bc they have a pretty small inside and patio as well. I wouldn't recommend for a date night bc it's pretty casual but it's my favorite in West McKinney Frisco area. Like if this helped you!

Order anything but the sushi!
Their fish is bad in the raw sushi and has a very bad smell to it. Woke up with food poisoning this morning and this is the last thing I ate yesterday. Highly not recommended
I had the rainbow roll and beef skewers both were awful and old

We went for husband birthday because he loves Japanese food. He ordered the galamari, deep fry tofu for appetizers, the sashimi combo and tariyaki chicken bento box for the kid.
Husband loved the deep fry tofu and sashimi combo.
The customer service was good too.
The only thing I didn't give a five star is the portion of kid bento box was smaller than I expected.
Will come back again!
