Magness Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Martial Arts Academy, Cedar Hill TX

My 8yo daughter regularly attends class at Magness. I can't say enough about the friendly and inviting environment and fantastic coaching. She has attended several academies and Magness is her favorite. They have everything you want in an academy whether your child is a new beginner or a serious competitor. The coaches teach advanced techniques in a way the kids understand. Highly recommend this academy!

I must say, that after having trained for just 4 weeks at Magness BJJ, that with certainty, and unequivocally, this is a great place to train. I had the privilege (and I hope if time allows to make it back) of training with the men and women there and to have received instruction from Coach Magness and Coach Lindsey. Both Coach Magness and Coach Lindsey are courteous and extremely knowledgeable. Their demonstrations are clearly explained and they go to great lengths to ensure the proper execution of those demonstrations. The best thing about Magness BJJ is the ability of not only the coaches, but also the practitioners to properly assess the skill level of an incoming trainee, whether that individual is a novice with no experience in BJJ (me), or of a higher sort. That is to say, the safety and best interest of the individuals there is of the utmost concern and you never feel as though someone is doing something they shouldn't, or that they do not have your best interest at hand. If at any point during a session an individual needs to get water, ask a question, or spend time watching a demonstration a second or third time, they are encouraged to do so. The mat is spacious and always properly sanitized post training and the monthly fees are incredibly fair as are the fees for private one on one instructional sessions. I highly recommend anybody who wants to learn BJJ to try Magness BJJ as it meets and exceeds the expectations one would have for this art.

Magness has been wonderful for our family. Our kids have enjoyed attending class and learning new skills. We have a child on the spectrum they have been so patient with him. Magness has helped him in so many ways.

Love this place! My six year old son has shown so much improvement in confidence and discipline. The social interaction with coaches and fellow students is awesome with the bonus of learning self defense. This is a family environment with caring and patient instructors. So glad I found this place!

I recently moved to Texas from Oklahoma. I’ve been training jiu jitsu for 11 years, receiving my black belt in August of 2022. Magness is a great school with many talented students. Everyone here is extremely welcoming. The way the head coaches structure class, give their students the very most out of their time on the mat. I’d highly recommend training here whether it’s your first day or you’re the most seasoned grappler, whether you’re 5 or 99. They have a spot for you.

Great gym so far. Calm, friendly environment. Thorough and progressive lesson plans. Nice blend of specific techniques and theory. Excellent variety of skill levels, age levels, and body sizes/types. Instruction is high-level but taught in a way that’s approachable. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school.

I just moved back to the area and I tried pretty much every BJJ gym in Midlothian, Mansfield/Arlington, and Cedar Hill. Magness was by far the most welcoming, well run gym I found. The lessons are very well run and the coaches are incredible. This gym is great for anyone with any level of experience. I would highly recommend Magness BJJ to anyone looking for a place to train in the area.

Words cannot express how thankful and pleased my wife and I are with Magness BJJ. My wife, son and I were welcomed as family the moment we set foot into the gym from the coaches to other members. Our son is a typical overactive child with a short attention span and lack of focus at times. We have yet to feel that this is an issue. Actually we were made to feel this is normal. Hesitant at first, we are seeing huge changes with respect and discipline in our son. He loves attending class and doesn’t want to leave when over. This is huge! After a short time in this class he is not running around, but standing, listening to the coaches and showing respect, patience and has an understanding of the jiu- jitsu art and skill. The owners and coaches are top notch and we look forward to seeing our son continue to improve with them.

I just moved to the DFW area from Arkansas. I had been training with an amazing gym for a year and a half in Arkansas and was discouraged I was moving and certain I wouldn’t find a gym to match the culture I had in Arkansas. I tried 6 or 7 different schools in DFW before I walked into Magness. After day 1 I knew I had found my new jiu jitsu home. The level of talent is unmatched and the unity and culture is above all other I checked out in DFW. Very grateful I found Magness Jiu Jitsu and highly recommend it for anyone interested in Jiu Jitsu.

Great environment and staffing! Everyone is friendly and very inclusive. If you have any questions or need help everyone is ready to help! Coaches are great and are so helpful. I’m just starting of and I can definitely say this gym is amazing.
