McNay Art Museum reviews
16The art museum is amazing when its here and the scenery is amazing for people who want to paint
Today was my first visit since the construction that had the front gate closed for a while. This remains one of my favorite museums. The Thiebaud exhibit was fantastic as well as the new pieces in the museum collection. I had a lovely evening here.
I am a long time member. The cost of a single or dual membership is 65 to 80.0 It would be great if the San Antonio Botanical Garden and the McNay had a combination weekend ticket for out of Towners. Just putting it out in the ether.
Super experience. Fine art in a historic setting. Don't miss the opportunity to visit.
This place is awesome you can spend the day there walking the grounds taking beautiful pics and looking at the amazing art, looking forward to taking friends and family here.
We have been here on four different occasions, including with a school group on a tour, and love the McNay museum.
Kids 12 and under are free. The permanent collection has a great variety and contains many of the great well known artists. They also highlight local and lesser known artists. It would take quite a long time to see everything in one visit, so it makes sense to return. If an annual membership fits for you, it would be a greta investment to be able to g back and immerse yourself in one area each visit.
The grounds are lovely, so don't miss enjoying the residence, courtyard, and the extensive surrounding area. Additionally, if the weather permits (rain and heat can impede) the water features, koi/turtle pond, and paths take you to sculptures on the property to further enjoy. You can access the grounds at no charge, too.
We have seen some outstanding traveling temporary exhibits, also. Some require reservations, so check before going.
I mentioned having visited once with a school group. The docents were ready to share their extensive knowledge. We were with a homeschool co-op group, and had kids ranging from toddlers to teens. It was more geared toward 6+, which is the age I would recommend to fully appreciate that type of interaction. Taking youngers for just a visit is wonderful, just wouldn't recommend a tour. Though learning proper museum etiquette inside, they would benefit from the outdoor exhibits and being able to move around and explore, too.
Beautiful old world environment of various art displays and sculptures, courtyard blissful and welcoming, Unique stunning artwork (not allowed to photograph indoors) a relaxing experience.
Such a great way to start the morning with a nice stroll outside. Great grass for my baby.
This place was SUPER cool! Parking was difficult but the museum was epic!
Came here for a San Antonio Business Journal event which was hosted in a large hall that appeared to double as a theatre. I can only imagine the magic of seeing a play here.
Displays throughout the hallways were also very neat. Some bland, others inspiring and unique.
Overall, if you want to see something new in SA, this is it.
Great space. Would give 5 stars but one Staff member was extremely rude. When admiring a piece of white embossed text at a respectable distance, I was told I wouldn’t be able to read and it was insinuated that i couldn’t read the language. Pretty problematic for a piece whose aim is to be inclusive.
Very good staff.kind and courteous older gentleman. The way the exhibits we're arranged was very refreshing (not your typical curation). 4 stars because I'm comparing it to museums I've seen in NY, Washington, etc
Beautiful mansion/museum. Lots to see. Interesting to go at night and during the daylight.
Amazing architecture and such wonderful art pieces can be found here! (i only wish the curation of the galleries was a bit better and had a bit more explanation as to how they selected the pieces in each exhibition, etc) overall it made for a wonderful visit! Make sure to mention you're a student for a discount!
What a beautiful, unique setting for a museum. I was ecstatic to see Monet, Van Gogh, O'Keefe, and so many other Masters works of art. The grounds were landscaped beautifully-with a coy pond and sculpture garden.
This is a hidden gem. Saw 2 Monet's a Van Gough and a. O'KEEFFE. Like wow. Plus free admission on Thursday evenings.
