Mel's Blueplate & Seafood Express reviews
19Really good onion rings! The burger could have used a little more seasoning but was good overall, nice and fresh. The cherry dump cake was very flavorful (and a nice surprise, I haven't had a dump cake in years). The staff was friendly and moved quickly. It's located inside a convenience store, so seating is limited. Definitely going back to try the meatloaf.
Yeah this place is a hidden gem for burgers in Galveston. Save big $$ from name brand chains or places on the seawall that are selling an inferior product for more. This place is great. Big menu and good service. Would suggest calling in for pickup but didn’t mind waiting
There's no way I can cook this food for what they charge for it it's always wonderful I'm glad they don't have a lot of signs out front because it would be way too crowded. I had the special today which was shrimp gumbo and cornbread oh my gosh it was great!
Patty melt was good. Friendly staff. Shared space with Valero gas station. Easy to miss unless you're really looking for it.
Would be 5 stars if I got a bottle or can drink, skip the soda fountain, and if just a little more seasoning on the burger.
Will definitely be back to check out the non burger meals when back in town which looked great.
Double 2/3 lb cheese burger is legit. Probably weight AFTER cooking, get the home made O-rings.
Little hole in the wall tucked inside a gas station. Doesn't look special at all but the food was amazing. I would recommend they put signage so people can know where this little gem is.
My friend said he heard on the radio that this the best burger on the island. He said he'd been back three times and still believes it's the best he's ever had. (And he's a retired international airline pilot.) So we decided to try it today. This place definitely lives up to the hype. They'll customize. Try the fresh-battered-in-the-store-today onion rings. Don't expect ambiance. It's a convenience store. Expect a GREAT classic American hamburger.
The food tasted really good. But a little expensive. The extra large meatloaf platters $20 each is a bit pricey in my opinion. And the gumbo at $8.95 that was a mere coffee mug full of soup and a half a mug of rice was a bit high. But the service was excellent and it tasted really good. But I would definitely only pick up food from there it's not the best place to dine in its inside of a filling station convenience store.
I had a cheese burger that was good, wife had chicken and Mac the Mac was cold and the chicken was just ok, good place for being inside a gas station
This place is inside the Valero gas station and is really good! It’s a locals favorite place and prices are really good too! Cheeseburger is one of the best I’ve had!
Got there too late as most of suggested dishes were sold out as was daily special. Had one of the best fish and shrimp poboys I've ever had in Island.
Funny enough, this ended up being my favorite place we ate at in Galveston on our vacation. I randomly found it based on reviews as it was not planned at all. I got the shrimp po boy and it did not disappoint! Very delicious, crispy, and a large portion. My wife got the burger with onion rings and she enjoyed it a lot. My kids for the grilled cheese and fries; no complaints. The lady's cooking in the kitchen were very nice and patient with us newcomers. Just a heads up that this is inside of a gas station with three or so tables. Not a ton of room to eat but it was fine for our family. I will come back for sure.
Food is good. Small place though, only 3 tables. You also have to get pass the not so clean gas station and workers not wearing gloves when touching ready to eat food.
I wouldn't normally go to a convenience store for lunch, but the reviews drew me in and I wasn't disappointed.
Everything was made to order, the burger was huge and so tasty.
I will be returning soon.
Tried this place for lunch and strongly recommend if you want freshly prepared food. We had a cheeseburger and a shrimp po boy with fries and everything was excellent. They also have a daily special that we may try next time. This place has great food for very reasonable prices for Galveston. We will be back!
Went on a lil road trip to Galveston and came across this wonderful gem of a place inside of a Valero Gas Station! When you first walk in like I did you might feel a bit hesitant, but TRUST, you will not be disappointed! I just ordered cheeseburgers & fries and was amazed on how good it was, juicy patty & toasty bun, so expect extra napkins! The ladies running the store were so friendly and treated customers like family, first name basis and everything! 10/10 Chef’s kiss and will make this a must go-to spot whenever I’m in Galveston!
Hands down the best burgers and fries and hand dipped onions rings on the island! Add in the amazing customer service that the girls provide and you will have yourself a great meal! The prices are amazing as well, especially for the island!
We order from Mel's often and have never been disappointed. The food is always delicious. The chicken fried chicken is my favorite!
Outstanding. The 2 ladies had their hands full so it was a little slow. But it was very good. They make some good ol country food like porkchops, and poor man patty.
