Mencius Gourmet Hunan, Kingwood Area TX

Food was served hot and in a timely fashion. Staff was prompt and courteous. The inside was a little dim, gave off a “dated” feel. We enjoyed our meal. The server suggested a noodle dish with beef and shrimp. It was delicious. Shareable portions; next time we are ordering 3 dishes to share between four of us.

Food was very good. Cherry Chicken was amazing! Hot and Sour soup was ok, Lin's in Valley Haven is much better. I don't know of another restaurant that has Cherry Chicken and I don't think that anyone could make it any better, it really is excellent. Sweet and Sour sauce is ok, The dish I had on the lunch special was #27 and it was really good. So overall we really enjoyed our meal and we will be back again. I have eaten at this place for the past 30 years but life changes and it had been several years since we have been back until today. We will be back for sure soon.

The food is always fresh and they always make sure it’s to your specifications. Best Chinese in all of Kingwood!

Funny how I ordered looked at the lunch menu but was charged dinner rates. No good! If I’m at 1: 00pm it’s lunch. But not you have to say lunch or you will pay dinner rates. $65 dinner lunch. Wouldn’t recommend this place!

Mencius was once a great restaurant; sadly it's gone downhill and isn't worth visiting anymore. The food quality is just terrible these days.

It was late, and my elderly father was not in the best spirits. He was unable to enjoy the food due to an allergic reaction to new meds. I'm sure I'd be able to provide a positive account otherwise.

This is my second order from Mencius Gourmet Hunan in Kingwood Texas and my very LAST! They forgot to put the requested Sweet and Sour and Hot Mustard for the driver to bring to the house. Wife only eats fried rice with the 2 sauces. So, I called and the person at Mencius Gourmet Hunan in Kingwood Texas said he forgot to put them in the sack and would have them to us within an hour to hour and half. I also explained that her food would be cold by then. He said no problem he would send new rice and a spring roll to make her happy. OK fine took his word that he was being truthful. Food was originally delivered at 6: 43 pm. I called back at 8: 15 pm to find out where the food was. Well he gave me line that he misunderstood and would have it right to us…. Ok fine she is hungry. At 8: 38 pm I get a call from Grub hub to tell me the restaurant was not going to deliver at their cost. I became livid but calm to her. Grub hub said they would give me credit for the Fried Rice and if I would reorder from the restaurant, she could get her food. PFFFFFT know I am boiling why would I want to spend money again for their error. This turned into a cluster for the people at Mencius Gourmet Hunan in Kingwood, Texas lying to me twice and then calling Grub hub to cover their arse! This is no way to handle

We've been eating at this establishment since they opened in the mid '80's, regularly for lunch, as well as celebrated birthdays & anniversaries there. The food & service had always been amazing. It's been several years so I looked forward the other day when I phoned in an order for pick up. I requested pick up for 2: 45 pm from the all day lunch menu. At the time the person on the other end suggested I arrive at 3. Seemed fair since I was ordering in advance, it was 1: 45 at the time so what was the difference in 15 minutes? So I arrived at 3 pm for curb service due to Covid-19. An idividual came to the car to retrieve my credit card, returned immediately with a receipt, I signed and I added a tip of $5.00. I then waited 15 minutes for the food to come out. To my surprize I discovered later upon reviewing the itemized receipt, that I had been charged the dinner pricing, the increase begins at 3 pm! (Obviously the reason they suggested I wait the 15 minutes to pick up at 3). Not only did I pay over $10.00 more for the meals, I was overcharged a dollar on each meal from the pricing on the website. This behavior is dispicable, I will NEVER return, they've lost another patron. Miss the days of the original owners.

After about 15 years of going to Mencius we are quite disappointed! My husband loves the won ton soup but the BBQ ribs were very dry and overcooked, the egg rolls were greasy. The past few years you could feel the difference in the atmosphere and quality of the food. We wont be going back.

Please support them due to the crisis and pandemic we are all going through. They’re amazing! I’m a frequent customer at least once a week. Phillip is so generous and always takes care of us every time I Order for my family and I. Best Chinese place hands down. If you order here I recommend the fried rice (best in the area!) general chicken, and the egg rolls are the reason I continue coming back. Also, chicken and broccoli with brown sauce is also my go to. Highly recommend this restaurant and I’m excited for their new location on Northpark!

Long established Chinese restaurant in Kingwood. Excellent lunch specials and friendly service.

Food and service were excellent as always. Been going to this restaurant since I was a child and I bring my own daughter when she is home from college. Staff is always attentive and know us by name.

Their food is ok at best. Fried calamari is horrible. Their delivery time sucks. I had a 40 min break between clients to eat and I scheduled a delivery 90 minutes ahead of time and they were 35 minutes late. I only got offered a 20% discount when I complained I should have gotten more but I didn't have time to argue.

My family and I have had great experiences here every time we visit. The food is good as well as the service. Staff is always nice!

Prefer Oriental Gardens across street.
Maybe if you like one you won't like the other.

Excellent! Found this place using DOSH app. So glad I came! Environment is awesome! Food delicious, and I tend to be picky with Chinese food. Wife got moo goo gain pan, and I got "Happy Family" came with choice of soup, appetizer, and rice. I had egg drop and corn soup and my wife had wonton soup.with beverages our bill was under 25 bucks.for the quality of food and atmosphere, this is a true bargain. Service was top notch, we had a wonderful conversation with one of the waitresses after our lunch.his is for sure my new Chinese Place!
