Mencius' Gourmet Hunan Restaurant, San Antonio TX

I ordered the Triple Delight, which is beef, shrimp, and chicken sautéed in a brown sauce. The dish is spicy, but not too spicy. It was so fresh and delicious. I love their Lemon Fried Rice, which isn't on the menu.

1st time here the other day with my family. Food was really good and very big portions. I had the eggplant in garlic sauce and it was cooked perfectly. Mid way through our meal, our waiter busted out a karaoke machine and everyone started singing songs. Service is so friendly too! Can’t wait to go back!

First time here my wife and daughter tookl me here food was delicious and service was awesome.

Also the lady I front look like the owner is very bad mood also don’t accept payment w cards? Why because don’t they refuse pay taxes from irs?

We were hungry after my dr's appointment, and the reviews seemed OK. Well, this place has definitely gone downhill since the 2nd time we visited about 25 yrs ago. The older gentleman who served us was so friendly, respectful, and sweet, that's where the 4 star review ends. The food was absolutely disgusting. The lemon chicken had a wet dog smell, even though it looked OK. The egg roll was sour and horrible. The rice looked like normal boiled white rice with coloring, also disgusting. The lo mein was horrible blah too. We should have walked right up and out without paying. However, we paid $30 and said Adios never to return. This place should shut down for its nasty, disgusting, flavorless food.

We got seated by 6: 10pm and the early special ends at 6: 39p. The waitress didn’t even offer it to us even though I told her that’s what I wanted. She wasn’t helpful and didn’t even fill out drinks. She would disappear and I had to ask the other staff for refills and anything else we wanted. I let the guy who sat us down how lousy the experience was with the waitress and he acted like he didn’t even care. Seemed like he was in a hurry to get rid of us because I complained about the waitress.
This place used to be a great place to eat, but not it’s just an ok place. Probably won’t be coming back though if that’s they way they treat customers.
The food was great though.

Good food as usual but on this to go order one order was wrong (gave us chicken and vegetables instead of chicken and broccoli). Did not notice their error until I got home. Called about getting the wrong item and they claimed it was our error. So much for good customer relations. The chicken and broccoli entree was written on a piece of paper and read from the paper to the waiter. Oh well. Stil like the place but don't appreciate the response to our complaint.

First time here, greeted immediately. This place is clean and the servers are happy, talking to the customers.
Ordered and received food within 15 minutes.

I ordered puffy crab for appetizer (cheese Rangoon s). So good!
Also ordered tea with lime (comes unsweetened but sugar on the table)
And for main course sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. Comes with egg roll.
Boyfriend ordered lemon chicken.
I figured the plate would would have grease but no!
Could not eat it all, excited for left overs tonight.

I have order from this place a few times within the last couple of years, recently more than ever. Just tonight, I ordered last min before they closed because I was craving Thai food but the place I ordered was already closed and my partner loves y’all’s combination fried rice (Chinese food is also 5/5 BTW). I order pad Thai which I loved it came with chicken, tofu and SHRIMP and I was gonna order exactly that. Food is freakin amazing! Even tho I got there at 8: 51PM (9 mins before closing time), everyone was still super nice. I could tell they were ready to close up and go home but still treated me like a million bucks and appreciated the business. Thanks to the girl at the register and funny Aaron. Keep it up yall!

I always go with a friend for either lunch or dinner. Food and service is great! Not the best I've had, but very good nonetheless.

This was our first time. The scallops and hot & sour soup are the best in San Antonio. The prices are also reasonable.

This place had good food. We had the mencius shrimp and the beef and broccoli. The beef was a little weirdly tender but wasn’t bad. The shrimp and walnuts were great! We also had wonton soup and egg drop, they were also good. I didn’t really like the atmosphere of the place, there was loud basketball playing, a lot of the staff had their phones ringing at the same time as the company phone, and it was overwhelming and not welcoming. Other than that the service was good.

Jimmy the “manager” refused to give me the owner of the restaurant’s full name after I was charged 20$ for an order I made and never received my food for. He gave “Anne’s” first name and I will be sure to let her know how her employees handle situations like this where the customer is literally stolen from.

Great food! I’m from CT where Chinese food is amazing and my experience in Texas has not been the same. Thrilled to see they use the tradition American take out containers for rice. Food is better than any I have tried in San Antonio. A little pricy but I’ll continue to pay it and return here in the future. If they would out everything in the to go containers like the rice it would be even better!
