I gave up my membership at Terra Vista in Round Rock not only because of expense, but also because it is no longer in good shape. Then I found this Gem in Salado, TX!
It is a great golf course with challenging holes, and tree lined fairways. The greens are in great shape with the exception of a couple of holes. With this heat and ice storm last winter, it’s to be expected. The staff at the pro shop are extremely friendly and will help you any way they can. My only complaint is the snack bar. Website says they open at 7AM, which is true but don’t expect to have breakfast. Lady behind the counter was more interested in going out to smoke a cigarette instead of preparing food for customers.
Other than that, I highly recommend the Gem of a golf course!

My bride and I just had the best time playing the middle nine. These folks are taking great care of the place. The Texas summer heat can really beat up golf courses, but these folks are doing an outstanding job of keeping the fairways in greens in great shape. I was particularly thankful to meet Chris at the clubhouse, he was Texas friendly, and answered a ton of questions. Once it cools off a little, then I'll try to take on 18. If you are a beginner like me, I highly recommend Mill Creek at Salado.

The course is interesting, the fair way and green condition is ok, the waitings are not terrible, and the pro shop staffs are kind, so I started to play at here almost every weekend. I like it.

I really hate to do this but thought I should share with others before you drive out to the course. Something has changed here not sure what but most of the greens are in bad bad shape. Out of 18 (we only played 1 & 2 courses) I would say more than half maybe 2/3 were really unplayable. As another review stated.the sand traps are nothing but packed hard sand like playing on dirt with no grass.

Course is in great shape.greens on course 1 are bumpy and large bare spots, but will catch up by mid summer. Always a good time. Staff at the pro shop is great but the woman at the grill must have been having a bad day. Pace of play was excellent.

Played Mill Creek on a recent golf trip to Austin. Very nice layout and a challenging course. Greens need some TLC but the price was very reasonable. Staff was helpful. Would recommend.

Great course in the heart of Central Texas. Under new ownership for the past few years and the course is in great shape.

Not sure about the pictures or reviews. We saw the reviews / pictures and decided to squeeze 9 holes in before going down to Austin.

I understand coming out of winter conditions but….
This was the worst condition course I’ve played in my life. The greens must have had a massive kill off like they didn’t water/cover them before a bad freeze. Fairways are half weeds and not cut. Sand traps were sad traps that are half rocks which would destroy your club if you hit out of them.

Had to wait at least 5 minutes at the counter to get a beer from a lady who seemed to be annoyed that she had to work.

Staff friendly and courteous. Tees and fairways in decent shape for March. Too early for greens to be acceptable. Speed varies. Approach shots not holding yet. Fun day however.

Mill Creek, located in Salado, is a private course that is open to the public. I have enjoyed playing there over the last 16 years. It has three-9 hole courses, and when you check in at the pro shop, they will assign you 2 of the courses to play (Warning: The #1 hole on Course 3 may make you lose your Religion!). You will encounter several holes where there is a forced carry over water. The course is very well maintained, and you will find the greens are mostly firm and fast.

This is a great facility! The staff is very friendly, and the green fees are reasonable, even on the weekends! The snack bar has a great covered patio where you can enjoy a light meal, settle your wagers, and maybe have a beer, wine, or a cocktail!

This is a "must play" course! Plan an outing with your favorite foursome. It's worth the trip!

Wonderful experience out here, 40$ for 18 holes in march and confitions were phenomenal for just being on the backend of winter. The greenkeeper was especially mean when i went with pin locations but it made the course play really well. Lots of challenging approach shots and putts. Greens were fast, but rolled true. Staff was great, course was busy but managed a good pace of play. Overall top notch experience
