I paid over $600 for a general check-up and a PAP test.

To start, I had no issue with my experience while in the office or with the particular doctor that I saw. All of that was fine.

What I am extremely frustrated by is UT Southwestern's billing practices. When I made the appointment (for a general check-up and a PAP test) I was given an estimate of $325. I asked for an invoice or a paper copy of the estimate so that I could see the breakdown of the price, I was told no. I talked with my family about the estimate. Everyone was of the opinion that $325 was high for a general check-up and PAP test (I am self-pay, no insurance) but that I should go ahead with the appointment because it was already scheduled, etc.

At the office, after my visit, I paid the $325. I was told nothing about potentially being responsible for future payments or anything along those lines. A few weeks later I get two additional bills, totaling $316. I called to dispute the bills because I had no idea what they could be for. I actually thought my account had been applied to someone else's bills. I wish that was the case. The bills were reviewed and deemed valid. Bringing my total for a GENERAL CHECK-UP and a PAP TEST to $641. Over $600 for a 15 minutes visit. I called to ask if there was anything that could be done to lower the two other bills and was told no. I could have done a payment plan which I know can be helpful but is actually harmful in a lot of ways. I could have also applied for financial aid. But while your financial aid application is pending (to be approved or not approved) you have to go ahead and sign up for the payment plan to avoid your bill being sent to collections? So then if your financial aid application is not approved you're just on the hook for the monthly plan you've signed up for?

I found these billing practices extremely manipulative. I had already paid multiple hundreds of dollars for my appointment. And then another payment (almost doubling the estimate amount) was added to my account with nothing said to me about being responsible for any additional payment beforehand. The people on the phone took no responsibility for the terrible and manipulative practices of UT Southwestern (not that they themselves are responsible, but some of them actually tried to place blame back on me).

Overall awful experience. I will not be coming back here and urge you not to make an appointment if you're a new patient unless you have tons of money to randomly shell out for mysterious bills that you never assumed responsibility for.

I’ve been coming here since 2016. AMAZING doctors, sweetest nurses & staff. Ppl complain abt the fast pace but I love it, being pregnant you don’t necessarily want to sit in the doctors office all day lol. They are so caring and will answer however many questions you have.

(High risk side of the clinic) … please do your research before you go here…. The young ladies at the front desk are absolutely amazing, so is Tiffany the sonogram tech I’ve noticed they most of the other sono techs are travelers. My doctor is Dr. Franklin and she seems to be very knowledgeable but her customer service is not the best, as a expecting mother I feel a soon to be mom should be handled with care, this is definitely not the place for that. I felt like fast food drive through customer. I’m currently eight months pregnant AND having to find another doctor… I take my life as well as my child’s life very seriously and I will not be treated like I don’t matter. Hopefully they can learn to have some empathy and go the extra mile for the moms to be. UTSW OBGYN will not get another dime from me. That’s what’s it’s all about at the end of the day.
