Palo Duro Canyon State Park reviews
16Had a brief glimpse of Palo Duro Canyon on the way to attend the musical performance in evening. Loved the canyon views. Musical at Pioneer Amphitheater is a must do - great cast of actors telling a nice story about canyon. Got drenched in thunderstorms that hit the amphitheater but loved the show.
Love the place when i went it was close but they send us over to the the jeep tours right beside the park which ended up being exactly what i was looking for awesome scenery and some real outdoor hiking
Great hiking trails taking you through an impressive scenery. Remember to bring plenty of water and sun protection
Very scenic, take the weather seriously! We had a 30% chance of thunderstorms, radar showed a 2 pm cell. At 1 pm we got 100% rain/hail! What was a dry sand bed 30 min earlier became a 10 foot wide 12 inch deep very strong flowing watershed. Lots of trails most are mountain bike friendly. We stayed at Hackberry Campground which I rated 3 star (see review). We also attended the musical.
Great views. We also enjoyed going to "Texas" the outdoor musical.
Depending on the time of year, make sure to hike early in the morning because it gets hot quickly, even in mid June.
Is a beautiful place, my husband and I spend one day and one night on our way to Colorado in July 1st 2021. We had a thunderstorm during the night, our camping site was in the middle of the canyon the sound of the storm and heavy rain was impressive but relaxing. We are looking forward to hike the light house trail. All trail's we're closed because the heavy rain.
Beautiful park with miles of trails. Be sure to bring bug spray, the flies out there are pretty big and they bite!
Wonderful Texas performance and barbecue meal. Patriotic ending and light show were amazing. Great talent and staging.
OMG! This is such a gorgeous park. We stayed at the cactus primitive campsite. The views are breathtaking. We arrived at the visitors center overlook and witnessed how stunning the view is and it literally disappeared within minutes when the rain rolled in. The CCC hike is a must. Pictures will not due it justice. All trails were closed the next day due to the rain. I had my heart set on doing the Lighthouse trail, but couldn't do it due to closure.
Wow words can not describe. If the opportunity knocks go with it. Gives you the feel of what's it like to drive into grand canyon
Great experience, beautiful country with exceptional views and all the hiking you could want. Don't forget to enjoy the musical Texas while you're there.
Loved it! The canyon mercantile was really cool and helpful. We stayed in a CCC cabin on the canyon rim. Saw a mountain goat with a baby, saw lots of wild turkeys. The cabins were really cool! Highly recommend!
Soooooo beautiful! We took our RV down into the canyon. (put it in 1st gear due to the steep decline) Be sure to see Texas Musical and order BBQ dinner while down there.
So beautiful. We watched the play Texas and it rained on us but they kept going! Super friendly staff and great show!
The Texas play is something everyone should enjoy at least once in their life, if not a few times. The young people and a few older ones who put this together do an excellent job. It is fun and entertaining for the whole family! As far as the canyon goes it is Amazing Beauty, Texas at it's best!
Breathtaking views, great hikes. Highly recommend a visit, hiking and the Texas Outdoor musical. The Lighthouse hike was awesome!
