Pennybacker Bridge Overlook, Austin TX

If you are in the Austin area I definitely recommend this hike as it is easy enough for any to get to the top to take a great photo.

So this view is 5 stars, but truly I was worried about my car the whole time because of the other reviews. Lots of glass in the parking lot, nothing happened and I made sure to take everything out of my care before going. Just be aware. The hike is only 5 minutes up some rocks, but there are other pathways that are somewhat easier to walk up, wear proper shoes. Went during sunset with my dog and it did get busy but like I said there are other areas to walk towards to view it peacefully.

PARKED CAR WAS BROKEN INTO (WINDOW SMASHED) AND MY PURSE WAS STOLEN.

IT WAS STILL VERY BRIGHT OUT WHEN IT HAPPENED (before 6pm) AND THERE WERE A TON OF OTHER CARS ALSO PARKED HERE.

Watching sunset on the overlook was lovely and the hike is quick/easy, but PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS! THIS APPARENTLY HAPPENS VERY OFTEN HERE SO PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK!

***Watch out for thieves. Several cars with broken windows and stolen items when we returned from the trail. It is a cool spot, but unfortunately an easy target for criminal activity in the parking area. We lost thousands of dollars of equipment. Pretty frustrating experience.

Iconic austin spot, you climb a massive limestone cliff to reach an overlook with great views of the downtown skyline, pennybacker bridge, sunset, and massive hills and canyons. There are also hiking trails along the cliff with hidden lookouts. Park on the side of 360- ignore the no parking signs

The maps satellite view shows 18 cars diagonally parked along the side of the highway, but there are No Parking signs in that area. I did step out of the car and walk towards the river, maybe I took the wrong path and was too close to the highway. I guess I should have gone 10’ to my right along the cliff to get to the view shown in most pictures. Lots of garbage on either path. Oh well.

This used to be the place high school kids would drink, get high 15 years ago. Funny it's now called "Pennybacker Bridge Overlook. "

Please please do not leave any valuable items in the car. Break in is usual at this place. I become victim today. I checked others review

Nice place. Beautiful views especially during dusk and dawn. Can get a bit crowded during weekends. Weekdays is the best time to visit. You might find some trash around the place. Despite having a trash can before entering the place it is sad to see people leaving trash nearby. Overall great place and has some good trails.

This place is one of my favorite spots on Austin! The view is awesome and you can take wonderful pictures … I love to go when is the sunset time, but is a busy time due everyone wants pictures with the sunset… you just need to park on the side of the way and start to climb a small way and then you see the most beautiful view!

Beautiful! It’s a quick 5 min hike to the top. The entrance is kinda hidden, but there is a parking sign and a trash can beside it, marking how to get in. There are other trails you can access to go for longer hikes. We went during sunrise and it was absolutely breathtaking. It’s basically empty during early morning, but I’ve heard it gets busier during sunset hours.

Great spot to hike and enjoy a beautiful view, remember to bring comfortable walking shoes there are 3+ foot boulders to climb over to reach the top.

A "must see" view. The climb is not difficult and definitely worth it. The overlook is a scenic and peaceful place, whether you look left to get a glimpse of the skyline or look right to see the tree-lined, winding river.

Awsome view on the colorado, nice short 'hike' up to the cliffs for a great scenery. If you want to enjoy a bit more, get ready to wander through the bushes for some nice quite spots with breathtaking views!
Worth a trip, even with children, bit be on the lookout bcs of cliffs!

This overlook is gorgeous! Brought the drone up there for the first time and captured some awesome shots! Did some fun "rock climbing", hiking on the trail. Just had a great time and saw more of God's beautiful creation, here on this planet! Very excited about that!

Breathtaking view of Colorado river, Austin county golf club, highway 360 and main reason steel Bridge. Wear comfortable shoes, you need some climbing? ‍️, parking is in the side of highway. Bridge make it a picture perfect location for photo for a very good memory for many years.

The place is spectacular has an excellent view, ideal for tourists to take a good photograph as a souvenir of the city of Austin.remember to keep the area clean.

You can't beat the views. It is a hike to get up to this spot so make sure to wear tennis shoes. Sandals/flip flops are not recommended. There are also no fences or barriers of any sort so keep an eye on children or don't bring them at all if they're prone to running off.

BEWARE! OUR CAR WAS BROKEN INTO AND WE WERE ROBBED!

The views are beautiful but please be mindful of your vehicle. After coming down from the top our back glass was smash and we had some stuff stolen. A couple, a few cars over also had two of their windows smashed and stuff stolen!

Please please BEWARE AND CAUTION! Lots of broken glass around the parking area must happen very often!

Great spot for some photos, especially for out of towners. Very short hike. One thing lately is that people are throwing a lot of trash on the ground. Very lame. I try to pick up a few things on the way down to help out, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Keep Austin Clean!
