If you are in need of recovering from a climbing injury, Dr. Q is hands-down the best in the industry. Although his methods are non-traditional, the results speak for themselves. I had an A4 pulley injury and through his myofascial release technique, the recovery speed increased dramatically. Additionally, as Dr. Q is also a climber himself, its much easier to ask him specific questions relating to climbing injuries and other climbing-related techniques. Personally, my mind-body connection has been amplified, and I've been able to create healthy habits that will treat my body well in the long run. Go check him out if you are in need of recovery!

Over the weekend I had an intense indoor climbing session. Four days later I returned to top some boulders that I hadn’t tried. I would have considered it a mild climbing session and stop around 30 minutes in. To end my sesh I decided to test out the hang boards just to get a feel of them. I kept my feet placed on the ground and gently loaded my fingers. When I finished up my left hand felt sensitive, but I didn’t think much into it. The next day I found that my palm between my index and pinky finger was sensitive. Earlier this year I injured my right hand in the same area, so I knew what I was in for. My right hand formed a bump in my palm but there was no pain after two months. I wasn’t sure if my injury was going to last long or if it was going to go away. My left hand started to feel tight in the same area as my right hand. That was when I decided to reach out to a professional to see what was going on.

I waited four weeks before I booked an appointment with Dr. Q. When I booked the appointment, my hand was still sore to touch (if I gripped the steering wheel or tried opening a bottle). I had no issues with my fingers or opening/closing my hand. In my first visit with Dr. Q, he diagnosed me with a lumbrical injury. We completed our first session, and I felt the results immediately. He gave me some at home workouts and I committed myself fully. He also did work on both my hands and my knee (past injury). I completed three sessions with one left to go (four weeks total). I was instructed to go climbing after my third visit and all went well. I’m so stoked to be back on the walls.

My favorite thing about my experience at Perspective Physical Therapy was the Myofascial release sessions. It was super neat, and I learned so much. It is Dr. Q's holistic approach that drew me into his practice. I would 100% recommend Dr. Q.to anyone who is open to getting to know their bodies’ healing capabilities (no injections or no surgeries). He is super personal, very friendly, offers so much information and he will get back to climbing in no time. I always look forward to our sessions.

I went to an appointment with Dr Q with a minor A5 pulley injury, with the hopes to get it back to strong climbing before nationals. The appointment was 2 days after the pain started, and 2 1/2 weeks before nationals, and in this time Dr Q was able to tend my finger back to 100% through a PT technique he learned from a Austrian Physical Therapist and climber. This technique involves the use of a chop stick to apply pressure to the knots inside your fingers, which is quite painful, but also really effective at releasing tension and healing pulley injuries. Dr Q also gave me a lot of warm ups that will help me avoid finger injury’s in the future by not only warming up my pulley system, but also my shoulders, hips, and back to take some weight off my fingers. In all Dr. Q knows what he’s talking about when it comes to climbing and finger injurys, and has a fantastic recovery program that doesn’t involve stopping climbing for weeks or months for your finger to slowly heal. 10/10 would highly recommend, especially to climbers.

Dr. Tran has been an absolutely amazing doctor throughout my experience over the last few months. I had an injury last August and waited a few weeks before starting myofascial therapy. He is kind, understanding, flexible, and helps to set attainable goals together. Would highly recommend this practice to anybody who is facing pain/injury and wanting treatment that actually makes sense and fits needs (schedule, cost, flexibility, etc.). Nothing but wonderful things to say, and I've absolutely been feeling stronger and stronger.

My experience with Dr. Q surpassed all expectations. I began working with him regarding a recent neck injury that resulted in a significant cervical disc herniation. After the initial scans and diagnosis, I was advised by a local orthopedic surgeon that surgery was the only option. While hearing this news was very alarming and made me doubt that other options were out there, I decided to give PT another try. Dr Q was caring, knowledgeable, and adaptable throughout the few months that we worked together. As we made progress together, I always appreciated how the treatment plan would evolve to help unlock even more untapped progress. I am now pain free and have increased range of motion!

Ever since I was a little guy, I've suffered from GI issues that I could never get to the bottom of. I had scar tissue in my abdomen from a few surgeries when I was young and it's been thought that could have had an impact on my GI development, but this has never been proven. I saw many doctors growing up but never got any answers and mostly felt like my issues were dismissed. As a result, for years I self medicated and feared trying to seek help again because I didn't want to feel unheard. So I waited until I couldn't take it anymore.

Dr. Q was recommended to me by a dietician I'd been working with as a means of focusing more attention on my scar tissue and the negative effects it might be causing me. I was a bit skeptical but willing to try anything at that point.

I have been thoroughly and pleasantly surprised by my experience not only because of Dr. Q's gentle yet informed techniques but because he goes to great lengths to ensure you are treated as a person. He's not just there to treat the symptom, he wants to see you succeed on every level. Dr. Q has played a major part in helping me get out of my comfort zone and in the short time we've been working together I've already felt my life change in ways I honestly couldn't imagine not too long ago. He listens, he cares, he encourages, and has become a critical champion in my life.

I would encourage anybody that is hesitant about this treatment to not second guess it. Dr. Q is a true professional and all around great guy. I'm so grateful that I took a chance on him and can only hope others will do the same.

My son is a competitive climber, and he tweaked his middle right finger. It was painful for him to pull on downward slops. After the first session with Doctor Q my son noticed significant improvement with his finger. By the second session, he was climbing without pain and notice the overall health gains of his finger was substantial. More than just taking care of my son's tweaked finger, Doctor Q was super personable. He cared for the overall well being of my son, and was not out to make a quick buck. He asked probing questions to help steer the direction of treatment and patiently answered all of our questions. I would definitely recommend Doctor Q to any climber in need of a second opinion or who wants an affective treatment plan for their climbing injuries.

My experience with Dr. Q has been fantastic.

I've notice tremendous improvement with my injury since I started seeing him. My only regret is not going to him sooner.

I am an athletic person that loves to Boulder twice a week because it's my favorite form of fitness next to lifting heavy things and putting those heavy things back down. In short, I am not a dedicated climber but absolutely LOVE climbing. I have been climbing off and on for almost a decade. The reason for climbing off and on instead of consistently is because I always managed to hurt myself once I get to a decent level; mainly finger injuries (A2 Pulleys).

I was at ABP on a routine route, made a very routine move and *POP*! It was the first time i've ever experienced this pop and pain from my hand.

At this point I was upset because here I am again, getting better without any kind of injury for the past 2 years and setback. I was absolutely tired of that and tired of reading internet forums telling me to 'Take a month or two off'. So fed up with resetting and not progressing past this limit. I decided to seek a specialist that was going to do more than tell me to 'rest'.

Enter Dr. Q.

I was hesitant at first but was willing to do anything to get back on the wall and stay healthy in the gym as this injury was intruding on my lifting too. I consulted with Dr Q and he let me know I had TWO injuries! Not just the A2 pulley but a lumbrical injury to my hand! The big shock that you may read from like reviews is Dr. Q wants and needs you to get back on the wall ASAP! I was all-in once he told me to start some climbing sooner than I thought. It was refreshing to not hear the R. I. C. E.method in which I am a firm denier in.

Dr. Q did his treatments which were totally out of my comprehension realm until he performed them and spent a climbing session with me that highlighted a fair amount of imbalances I've had through the years of climbing!

I am returning to the wall full-time soon with confidence and the ability to listen to my body when on the wall to prevent any more injuries! I couldn't have learned what I learned without Dr. Q.

10/10; would recommend!

My experience with Dr. Q was exceptional to say the least. I came to him with pain issues in my right knee from playing volleyball, and over the course of 2-3 months he's helped improved my condition immensely. Not only was he extremely informative as to why I was having knee issues, but he also treated it with myofascial release and set me up with an exercise program to ensure I see progress. When I ended up injuring my other knee due to another sport halfway into seeing him, he quickly adjusted my program to also incorporate resolving this new injury. After my last appointment with him, he made sure that I still had an exercise program to follow so that I can continue improving my condition and prevent future injuries.

I tweaked my shoulder climbing, and rather than the issue resolving itself, it got worse over several months. I originally was treated by a different PT (specialist in running), which, although helped a great deal, couldn't get me to a 100% and sent me on my way. A climber referred me to Dr. Q, who helped me to understand what the issue was, why it was occurring, and steps that could help resolve it. Each session I had resulted in distinct improvement. I appreciated that Dr. Q is a climber and knew where I was coming from.

It's going to be hard to say enough good things about my experience here.

A bit about me - I have been climbing regularly for over 3 years, mostly in the gym but starting to get outside more after having made some friends in the climbing community. I'm never going to go pro (already in my mid 30's), but I take my climbing seriously and think of myself as an athlete in that regard.

I had been climbing injury free for about a year and was getting ready for the fall outdoor season when I suddenly felt the infamous "pop" in my middle finger after latching a crimp. This was my first real finger injury, and I was incredibly dejected about it all.

I had no idea how to go about safely rehabilitating it and was worried that if I did go to a health care professional I was going to get someone who didn't know anything about climbing, or more importantly how to deal with the injuries we commonly suffer. I had read stories about climbers with injured pulleys who were told to take weeks or months off, and how they struggled to get back to the level they had previously achieved.

Enter Perspective Physical Therapy and Dr. Q. I was incredibly fortunate that Dr Q was hosting a workshop at my gym on the topic of healthy fingers just a week after my injury. During the workshop I spoke to him about what had happened and he recommended a phone consultation where we could speak in more detail.

Following that consultation I went to his office where he was able to diagnose me with a torn A2 pulley on my middle finger. I was, to be honest, pretty incredulous that this was an injury he had dealt with many times before and had a treatment plan that could work.

Part of that plan actually turned out to be a holistic assessment that took into account previous injuries. It was during that assessment I started to realize this was not going to be a typical "get them out the door as fast as possible" kind of thing and I started to believe this was going to work out alright.

After the assessment we discussed a treatment plan. One of the first things he said was he wanted me to start climbing again. I was very pleasantly surprised! So we set up a time to go to the gym together where he showed me the routine he wanted me to follow.

In the weeks that have followed climbing has been a central part to my recovery in addition to 1: 1 sessions in office. I am so grateful to have found a physical therapist who takes into account modern science and modern rehabilitation techniques; but most importantly I found one who understands how to apply all of that too climbing. As a result he is able to guide me through understanding where I'm at in my recovery and how to keep pushing as hard as possible towards a healthy recovery without overdoing it.

I've never heard of some of the rehab exercises he puts me through in our 1: 1 sessions but they are incredibly effective. It probably helps that he is great at holding a conversation and really stoked on climbing.

I can't recommend Perspective Physical Therapy enough. Easy to work with, incredibly knowledgeable in a niche sport, and results that are speaking for themselves.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Q for about 2.5 months now and can’t recommend him enough for PT and coaching for rock climbers. I wouldn’t be exaggerating in saying that it’s been a life changing experience. My story is that I’m a short (5’3”) male climber that’s been climbing for 14 years and stuck in a V6/V7 5.12 plateau for most of that time due to a string of unfortunate injuries.

These injuries have included my elbows (inner and outer tendinitis on both sides), knees and quads (quad dominance and tightness on left side), left hip (tightness caused me to stop running and doing certain climbing movements like high stepping), fingers (PIP joint inflammation in both my middle fingers and an A2 pulley strain in my right middle finger), and thoracic spine and neck (tightness from working on a computer all day and climbing). In addition, I was also dealing with pelvic floor pain for over a year and had already done multiple rounds of PT at Sullivan Physical Therapy, as well as with a private specialist.

During our first appointment Dr. Q asked me to list everything that was bothering me and then took a assessment of my whole body and posture and not only looked at the specific injury locations, but how they could be influencing each other. *No other doctor or PT I’ve ever seen had ever done this! *. I honestly thought I was going to scare him away after I listed everything, but after carefully listening to me he laid out a plan for us to fix all the injuries over the next 3 months. In our plan we had scheduled sessions in the climbing gym to fix the underlying movement patterns that were causing these frequent injuries. Most doctors I’d seen up to now didn’t care about fixing the root cause of these injuries and recommended I simply stop rock climbing. Dr. Q gave me the opposite experience…he was focused on getting me back stronger than ever.

In the time we’ve worked together Dr. Q has helped to resolve my knee, hip, and pelvic floor issues while keeping me climbing and doing sport specific training. My neck and spine issues are also better because my overall mobility is better. Furthermore, if these flare up I now know exactly what to do. I happy to report I’ve climbed my first V9/10 at Crux (a bear tag).

While out of town I re-injured my right middle finger from overdoing a climbing session (I knew it was sore before I started the session but I decided to do limit bouldering on it for 2 hours anyway). After getting back to Austin Dr. Q diagnosed and started working on the pulley strain and joint swelling. I’m feeling very optimistic with the progress we’re making (literally fixing 12 years of joint swelling). Nothing is instant and you get as much as you’re willing to put in.

Thank you everything Dr. Q! I’m grateful to my friend for referring me to you and all the positive changes you’ve made in my life.

I met Dr. Q through a clinic at a climbing gym. I was a bit reserved at first, but his understanding of the climbing culture and remedying finger injuries quickly became apparent after our first session. My injury was rather minor but hard to treat, and kept me unable to pull past 60-70% strength on a two-finger pocket. After my first session, I left with almost no pain in the finger and much better understanding of the injury and how it happened. If you are a climber, you will definitely appreciate his approach to treatment!

I had received chiropractic and physical therapy in the past (with limited success), so I was initially a little skeptical upon seeing Dr. Q. I'm a full believer now though as my sessions with Dr. Q have dramatically improved my day-to-day life.

I had been feeling a sore arm (which I later found out to be tennis elbow via Dr. Q) that was inhibiting me from lifting heavy objects or working out (in addition to the intermittent rush of dull pain). I thought I could simply ice it and rest for a couple weeks, but after 3 whole weeks of limited recovery, I finally bit the bullet and scheduled time with Dr. Q, which ending up being the best possible move.

What I greatly appreciated about our sessions was the thoroughness and commitment Dr. Q had in comprehensively solving my issue (not temporary fixes that would mitigate the pain while I was at the appointment, but quickly fade afterwards and force me to have to attend again). There's no upsell here - Dr. Q treats you in his sessions and provides strong recommendations and exercises that chart you on a course to be independent and "treat yourself. "

I would highly recommend Dr. Q and would urge you to consider him for treatment on both current injuries and preventative measures!
