Brewery Platypus Brewing reviews
14 Ended up stopping here during a trip to Houston because we love local breweries and the name was just too amusing not to visit. It was a rainy day, but the patio ended up being perfect - we were able to grab a few seats that weren't dripping wet.
We had some solid beers, I tried the oktoberfest and the aussie lager while my husband had an IPA and a hefeweizen. The hefe was unique in that didn't have some the typical notes of banana and clove, and he really enjoyed it. We also split the pretzel bites - pleasantly surprised they were slightly fried! The honey butter was also an amazing (and uncommon) dipping option.
Super bummed they were not doing flights - something about being out of the glasses? Would have love to have tried a few more beers!
We really enjoyed being able to watch most of the KU / Houston football game, but were so disappointed when they switched the tv to a different game. We tried asking the staff if they would switch another tv back over for us, as one had a game no one seemed to be watching. We were told they'd ask a manager, but nothing happened so we had to finish the game on our phones. Regardless, glad we could watch most of the game!
Fun brew pub. Personally want a fan of the beer selection, but I can see how dinner would enjoy it.
Sat at the bar for over 10 minutes. Guy with the curly hair ignored us while he was on his phone. Never once acknowledged our presence. Another employee long black hair walked by multiple times, same thing. After 10 minutes without a drink or even a hello, we left. Don’t waste your time….
Go here - the service is amazing, beer is great, fish & chips are unbelievable! Cool aesthetic as well, highly recommend
Love the space and the beer choices always have something new to try. Can't beat the Friday night fishpond chips! Delicious. Thanks for the great go to.
Good spot for food drinks and sports watching. Excellent customer service. Outside space heaters. Definitely going back again. A small spot for kids to play as well.
This is a nice brewery, it’s small but in a great location, where you can go bar hopping. We went there with my wife to watch game 3 of the ALDS Astros vs.the Mariners which turned out to be 18 innings. We were there for approximately 7-8 hours. We had a few beers and ordered some food, my wife got fish and chips and I ordered a pot pie. The food was ok but the beers were pretty good, wish they had more variety but it’s ok. Great atmosphere and the employees were very nice and friendly. I highly recommend this place.
We had a 15 person birthday party here and had an awesome time. They have great beer options and were extremely accommodating with our changing requests. The covered patio was great even in slightly cold temperatures (windy 60F). Highly recommend!
I cannot say enough great things about this brewery and restaurant! The food is delicious, the beers, the wine selection, the ambiance and the STAFF! Everything is great! Caleb is a treasure, everyone needs to visit this Houston gem.
I absolutely loved the flight that I had and the cider. The outdoor space is huge and a perfect place to hang out on a nice day. Three friends and I came to check it out as part of a birthday celebration and loved every minute. The customer service was also amazing which I always truly appreciate.
Straight to the point good food and greater selection of drinks. Friendly/personable staff - was greeted as soon as I walked in. Good game day hangout. Will come back with a few friends.
Also, great red beans and rice.
This restaurant was our favorite place to go, with friends and to bring our dog, till tonight!
Tonight was awful! We had the worst service from one of the waitress, she was rushing us to order drinks, and wanted to close tab, without even ask if we wanted to eat.
When she found out we wanted food too she became really rude and frustrated with us, seemed like taking four order at once was to difficult for her, at this point we just left.
Never experienced such bad service there, and tonight was so disappointing and ruined the night for us!
We'll probably never come back just because of this awful waitress that ruined for us!
Chill vibe. Good music. Chips and queso are top notch. Enjoyed the Aussie burger. Pickled beets had a good flavor. Their cocktails were solid too.
We went here about four years ago and weren't that excited about the beers, but the food was good, the service a bit snarky.
We went back last weekend and had a few friends with us. It was rather warm, so we sat inside and ordered a few beers and some food. The service was still snarky and curt, the beer was bad and the food was meh. BTW a side salad should not consist of slimy lettuce. If you're going to put a sauce on the burger? Please list that on the menu for allergy reasons and preference.
I don't know how the beer here passes. There are many good breweries in Houston, sadly Platypus is not one of them. For the record we tried 4 different beers and none of them were anything I would come back for.
