QI Austin: Modern Asian Kitchen reviews
14Atmosphere is just as good as the quality of the food in both locations, one of my favorite spots in Austin.
They couldn’t be more rude. The service is horrible. Went for a birthday lunch, and the guy at the entrance told us it was a 15 minute wait. We waited for 45 minutes, before we approached the same guy to tell him that it had been a 45 minute wait. To which he responded “And next time you come, I’ll make you wait an hour. ” Completely rude and distespectful.
Really delicious! I’m amazed how they turned one of the ugliest buildings in Austin to a beautiful restaurant. Love the soup dumplings and almost everything else is a hit!
I always go this place for special time with my husband. We love they're foods and service.
Food was super bland, no flavor. Can’t believe this is officiated with Lin’s as that spot is unreal. Ordered a sake when I got there, didn’t get it until dessert menu came
The place looked amazing and walking in, especially after hearing all the rave about it I a was excited. Went for brunch to enjoy the dimsum, sat down and was given a menu (one paper based and one book). Food was honestly average, some dishes better than others. The better dishes were: soup dumplings, sesame balls and bbq steamed pork buns (which basically arrived at the end of our meal). The not so great dishes were the scallion pancake (oily and overcooked, curry had no flavor), chicken basil dumplings (extremely oily), chicken tarp egg rolls were purely dry, zha Jiang noodles had too little sauce so it was like eating plain noodles and the alligator was more batter than meat.
Their dumplings are a must! Everything was absolutely delicious. We had the Dumplings, Pecan Shrimp, Curry (the best I've ever tasted) and the Beef Noodle Bowl. Book early!
Came here with my colleagues for a holiday meal. We were a problematic table that asked for a lot of recommendations and various to-go things throughout the meal. Kate G was our server, and she didn't even break a sweat. She knew the menu well and was able to take care of us despite us being so needy! Thanks Kate! Everything was outstanding. Standouts for me were the Qi Soup Dumplings, Braised Ox Tails, and the Scallop Sui Mai.
Each dish is made of simple ingredients that are brought together with the perfect technique to bring a depth of flavor seldom seen. Texture is king at Qi Austin which adds to the complexity of each dish and brings a pleasant taste with every bite. The atmosphere is energetic and the space well defined. It’s like stepping into a new world here.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, and not too crazy expensive.
Edit: it's a week later and I'm still obsessing over those dishes. Can't wait to go back.
Two words: soup dumplings! Bao buns are also fabulous. I have been to all three of chef Lin’s restaurants and I can’t pick a favorite, they’re all very good. You really can’t go wrong with any of the dim sum.
Ok this restaurant was unexpected. I love Chinese cuisine but this blew me away! Dim sum outstanding. Pork belly although not the crispy type was very good. I can't even remember everything we ordered but it was a great meal. Try the coconut margarita! The only downside was it being a bit dark in the dining room. So couldn't take pics for this review. The prices are higher than regular Chinese restaurants but this is definitely not a regular one. Worth the paying a bit more for quality food. Would recommend a reservation as they are popular.
They have no reference picture on the menu and I ordered the half pekin duck for 40 dollars and this is what I get. Just very few pieces of meat (can’t say if it’s even 1/4 of a duck) and three gua baos that doesn’t even taste close to authentic. You are basically paying for the environment and not necessarily even the service. We ordered the gluten free vegan dumplings and it was only 3 for I don’t remember exactly but somewhere between 10 to 20 dollars, definitely super overpriced. Also the fried rice tasted very fatty for some reason and it just feels like all the ingredients were mixed together without careful consideration but only for the sake of adding more ingredients to make it sound fancy… I don’t know much about Asian restaurants in Austin because I’m just visiting. If this is something you would like to try out then by all means, but I would personally not go back here to eat.
Food and service were good, but the prices were much higher than we expected. Toast categorized the price as one “$. ” The average entree is about $30 and cocktails are about $15+. All good, if that’s what you’re expecting. I’ve uploaded their menu as of end of 2023.
