Rip Current Athletics reviews
13Coach-guided fitness classes offered 5x per day. I have been a member for 8 months. I attend 5 days a week and have lost 30 lbs. Supportive Coach and members. I feel so much better. Much more than just a gym. Coach doesn't tolerate the drama that exists at other places. Nutrition guidance and regular measurements of progress.
Great facility, atmosphere, and owner! This veteran owned and operated gym is the place to go whether you’re a drop in or looking for a supportive place to work out. Art will make you feel right at home, keep you motivated, and encourage you every step of the way. Definitely one of the best!
The gym is clean, fun, and extremely well equipped. Art, the owner/trainer and decorated Marine Drill Instructor, is a great guy. He makes working out fun and effective. I highly recommend him, his fitness classes and his gym.
Great, clean space! I joined the 6: 15 class while on vacation. Super friendly folks and I'm pleasantly sore two days later.
I have worked out on my own for most of my adult life, however, when we moved to South TX, I felt like I needed a change so decided to check out Rip Current upon the recommendation of a friend. It was just the boost I needed! Art is an excellent coach! He knows how to motivate and keep us on task and also pays attention to make sure our form is correct. He suggests alternative moves if you have pain or injuries. Even though he is a former Marine Drill Sargent, he is friendly and fun -not stern, like I expected, but still serious about helping us get to our full potential.
I can tell my stamina and muscle tone has increased since joining. He has a variety of workouts and I am never bored -they are super fun and challenging. He just added ropes for climbing - made me feel like a kid again! The camaraderie among my fellow members is great too! Art is very helpful with information on health and nutrition as well.
I highly recommend Art and Rip Current Athletics!
The family and I spent the week in Port Isabel / SPI for spring break. I found Rip Current online and decided to drop in for the week. The whole process was great. It was easy to sign up and a fantastic place to workout. The owner and members are great folks that made me feel right at home. Whether you’re looking to work out for a day, a week or long term I highly recommend Rip Current! Check them out! You’ll only regret not going
Rip Current Athletics is the place to go while in the South Padre Island area. The facility is nice and has the equipment you need for a drop in-WOD. Coach Art is both knowledgeable and personable. He is able to program workouts for the both the novice and competitive athletes as well as being accommodating to competitors competing in the CrossFit open that are on vacation. I had a great week of workouts and I will be back next time I’m visiting SPI.
Dropped in while I was visiting the island for some open gym. Coach Art is very welcoming and the facility is nice and clean with a great selection of equipment. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.
Started coming to this gym in November of 2022. I haven’t stopped coming since. Classes are geared to what you think you can do. But you end up doing way more then you think you can handle. Art is an amazing coach. He takes his time to explain and demonstrate each exercise.
Classes are for all ages. I am in my 60s, if I can do it, so can you!
Want a good work out - go here! Want a clean gym - go here! Coach Art does an excellent job at explaining each exercise thoroughly and spots and helps each member through the class. Exercises can be modified to each individual’s ability without having to leave the group. This gym also counts with a variety and enough equipment for all. Members are all polite and friendly, this gym definitely has the feel good vibes as well.
I was in town for work for a month looking to workout and came across Rip Current Athletics. Art and the whole gym welcomed me immediately with great attitudes. Art takes his time to explain all the workouts and answer any questions, as well as make sure you perform the exercise correctly to ensure you get the best workout experience possible. Overall this is a great gym with great people, can’t wait to visit again!
Functional fitness gym! Started here 11 months ago after my last gym closed. Art, the owner and trainer, gives great feedback and options to fit your fitness level and strengths/weaknesses. Art also gave me modified workouts while I recovered (4 wks - no weight bearing on arm) from a recent surgery, and he is open to incorporating other exercises you may miss from past gyms. After he took over ownership in the Spring, he added 24hr access (great if you cannot make the designated class times). Class sizes are small, so you get more personalized training than most functional fitness gyms. The other members (teenagers to octogenarians) become part of your social circle.
While visiting last week, my son an elite high school athlete, dropped in at Rip Current last week! Coach Art was exceptional, takes an interest in you no matter what fitness level you’re at. He provided instant feedback and adjustments during the workouts, challenges you, and provides just the right amount of encouragement. The overall vibe was great, the fellow members are inspiring, and we had nothing but good experiences. I highly recommend Rip Current to my friends and family.
