Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive reviews
13Rarely have I had such a nice driving experience. Although only 45 miles are allowed, you can still make a photo stop about every 5 km. Very well developed road system.
An absolute must do. Go all the way to the end and stop at the overlooks. Don’t miss this. Scenic is an understatement
We drove over 30 miles of Maxwell Scenic Drive, which opens up to views of the stunning Chisos Mountains. There are several viewpoints here, including Sotol and Mule Ears, and many trails start here. We went through the desert Lower Burro Mesa Pour off Trial. We also went down to the Rio Grande River, saw the districts of Castolon with the cavalry buildings from the turn of the century and followed the Santa Elena Trail. Our impressions are very positive. We also saw a lot of vegetation, especially various forms of cacti - blooming, a family of chamois And fantastic lizards - in green and blue colors
Absolutely gorgeous scenery. The mountains are majestic, the cacti were blooming it was wonderful.
Stunning scenic drive with lots of pull offs for incredible views and short hikes to old homesteads. This is a great option on a hot day or a great way to see the park if you are unable to hike.
Simply overwhelming. There is a great panoramic view behind every curve! Our car became a botanizing drum that day.
The scene on the drive is spectacular
Especially the middle of the drive which is a look-down drive
The view is awesome
This is a must do drive! Only 60 miles round trip from the main road.turn on some road trip tunes, roll down the window and enjoy this drive and great views!
Such a beautiful drive with plenty of overlooks and small hikes branching out. There’s plenty of options for a variety of hiking experiences. You get great views of the park and the sites on this side of Big Bend. At the end is the Santa Elena canyon trail which is definitely worth the stop if it is open. Such a great experience
You can see the milky way. I saw the brightest commit here. Beautiful landscape. Ruins. Very underrated Park.
Stunning. There's a reason this is a national park. Plenty of little walk and points of interest to stop. Take your time and enjoy it.
Take this nice drive to get to historic Castalon and Santa Elena Canyon. Both worthy. Try to stop at the old Sam Nail ranch. There is a working windmill with bird species we've never seen. Two javelinas came to drink. The ranch adobe walls are still standing in part. The tree I posted is by the side of the creek bed further back. Watch for thorny bushes!
Beautiful drive! It was very hot of course but well worth the trip. We will come back maybe in the spring.
