Sheldon Lake State Park and Environmental Learning Center reviews
21Peaceful beautiful park with a cool perspective on what the land looks like as it goes wild after industry and agriculture are removed.
Great park for a day outing. Picnic tables available, catch and release fishing and lots of trails to hike on.
I love this park. I've been coming here for about 10 or so years. It's an amazingly well kept and organized park. There are alligators so admire them and know your boundaries. Overall a great wildlife experience!
Great plave to spend a few hours enjoying the day. It has beautiful little lotuses about and a very tall observation tower. However, the visitor center was closed due to flooding when I visited in April. Nice for a quick stroll and beautiful foilage.
I love this park because you can fish without a license on two ponds. Also because of the beautiful view from the top floor of the tower.
My husband and I took the kids for an afternoon walk and it was great. Will definitely be going back. Educational material can be found throughout the park. Well maintained.
Decent fishing pier had trash on it but not a lot could use a trashcan. Not super cowded but did have one guy on a boat goin way too fast causing a wake but I enjoyed
Pretty low key for a state park with not a lot of facilities. There is a nice lake to do some fishing though.
This is a great place for a walk / hike. There's no elevation change, so the hiking is really easy. The observation tower is neat, and gives you a really clear view of the surrounding area. We brought some cub scouts here on the weekend and there were plenty of park rangers out and about to answer questions and help the children identify plants and animals. The rangers were very friendly and patient. There were a lot of people fishing at the ponds, though we didn't take the time to do so. There was a surprising amount of wildlife for an area that was so heavily trafficked.
Gorgeous and lots of shade, even in 90 degree heat it was a lovely visit. I docked one star since the elevator is broken, so you have to use the stairs for the observatory, which isn't possible for some visitors. They have clean bathrooms and plenty of spots for picnics. I'm sure mosquitos are an issue, but we were not bothered midday. Also catch and release fishing.
We had such a wonderful afternoon at this park. An easy drive from anywhere in Houston and worth it! We did all of the trails for a good day of walking the dog and finding bullfrogs, gators, butterflies, and millions of birds! We really enjoyed looking for raccoon and coyote prints and the mud. I can't believe how far the Prairie has come and can't wait to check in often to see how it's grown and been restored. There were lots of kids fishing in the catch-and-release pond and it looks so fun.
Not very deep lake also has no wake sign when u launch boat lake only 3.5 to 6 ft deep I did find one spot 14 ft deep by the spill way.
Very friendly and caring state park rangers. The park is always clean and a great place to learn how to!
Nice calm quiet park lake, gators to see, and lots of wildlife, fishing is good, i see kayakers and boats, there is no wake zone thru the entire lake, very peaceful experience, the lake police are nice folks, very helpful
Good place to teach kids to fish. Hiking trails are easy here.perfect for kids. I was able to push stroller around just fine.watch out for alligators and snakes.
Cool spot to take the kids for a couple hours. There is fishing, hiking, and watching the wildlife. Beware of the alligators
I have been able to fish Sheldon since 1959. There wasn't anything there but a gravel road to get to where the station is. There was nothing but Woods where the station now stands. I think it was well planned out it's quite wonderful and very informative. A fabulous place for our inner city kids to visit. Kudos to everyone involved.
A great place to go hiking through some fantastic scenery with your pup! There's fishing, camping, and an observation tower.
I think this place is one of the great hidden gems around Houston. I love taking my boys here for a walk to see alligators, snakes, Turtles, and a bunch of other animals. You can also fish here.
Great state park with nice trails. The rangers are friendly, and always good family oriented and educational activities. Also perfect for quiet walk or picnic with beautiful scenery. The observation tower doesn't seem that high, but the view is quite nice! An east side hidden treasure!
