Martin and Shelley are absolutely the BEST! Feel incredibly comfortable leaving my puppy with them. The training is top notch and they are available to answer questions and help out along the way. If I could give 10 stars I would!

I’m on my third dog here over 10 years and I won’t go any where else as long as I live. There’s nothing like a well behaved dog. Not that any of my dogs needed a good tail kicking but the manners and desire to receive commands and be engaged when they’ve come back is amazing.

Absolutely brilliant! We took our 6 month old pup to Martin and Shelly and their training has led to nothing short of a transformation! They leave you with clear advice and instructions on how to continue your dog's progress beyond the initial training. And they are always there to support you with any questions and queries. I could not recommend Shelmar highly enough.

We recently had our pup trained with Martin Bell and we are very impressed. The facility was clean and very well organized. Martin spent about an hour with my family going over the routine and showed us exactly what to do at home to reinforce the good behavior. I highly recommend this place! Thank you. Martin and Shelly are absolutely amazing dog trainers! We did the 3 week puppy training program and our dog was a completely different dog afterwards! I have gotten so many compliments on his behavior and how well trained he is. In addition to the awesome training that he received while he was there, Martin is always available for a follow up lesson or an email to try to troubleshoot any problems that develop afterwards, which has been an amazing support. You can tell that Martin and Shelly absolutely love dogs and their whole hearts go into training and that they will treat your dog like their own. I highly recommend them for any dog training needs!

Martin Bell took a lot of time talking with me in assessing our needs in training our Weimaraner Puppy, Stormy. We left him at the kennel for three weeks. Every week I got videos of Stormy’s progress. Both he and his wife, Shelly are trainers. So they both worked with him to be sure he would be trained and listen to by both male and female. We are very pleased with the outcome and this is about a month later. They guarantee their work. I will be back for refreshers on some fine points. The beautiful thing is Storm cannot be left alone before. He has separation anxiety and would be destructive. He now stays home with his sister Weimaraner and he has demonstrated perfect behavior! Furthermore, although a crate trained storable, he would never get back in the crate. Now I have him in there an hour a day just for him to relax, and to keep him used to it in case I ever need to crate him.
Martin and Shelly are personable, really easy to talk with and absolutely love our dogs. Stormy was in great hands. Furthermore, they are well-versed about the Canine diet and we actually changed our dogs food and he looks great!
I can’t say enough positive things furthermore the facility is so so clean, sparkling really and there is always fresh water for the dogs!
You will not be disappointed!

I was having a lot of trouble with my 3-month old Schnoodle. After the 3-week program, I have a new dog. She listens to commands, walks well on a leash, and waits when told.

Pearl, our 12 week old lab mix, completed the 3 week puppy training and it was a wonderful experience! Martin and Shelly did an excellent job with getting her trained on the important basics and she had a great time. They were also so great to work with, provided exceptional care, and were very responsive. I’m so glad we completed the training and would do it again!

Marty and I took our one year old Black Lab mix, Cooper to Martin and Shelly when he was about 3 or 4 months old for three week training session. Cooper came back to us very well trained and had obviously been very well taken care of. We got a bit slack in our follow-up and Cooper got a bit out of control. We took him back for a "tune-up" last week. Picked him up two days ago and he is back to beautiful behavior. Martin and Shelly take great care of Cooper when he is there. He is happy and seems to fit right in. We could not be happier with Shelmar and trust Martin and Shelly completely. And if you slip a bit like Marty and I did, don't hesitate to contact Shelly and Martin for help. Shelly responds graciously to emails when you get back home and have issues and/or questions. We would not take our dogs anywhere else but Shelmar. They are THE BEST!

Shelmar Kennels is an excellent dog training facility, and my husband and I highly recommend them to train your dog (s). The owners, Martin and Shelly are extremely knowledgeable about the dog psyche, and they legitimately care about your pet's training success. They come with a tremendous amount of experience training dogs, and it shows. We noticed a huge change in our dog's behavior the day we picked her up from the board and training program. She gained so many good behavior traits in the short amount of time she was there, and we wholeheartedly thank Martin and Shelly, as we could not have successfully done on our own.

Martin and Shelly are beyond amazing and accommodating to you and your fur babies. They treat you like family and take such great care of your pup. Theres not a single place in houston I feel comfortable leaving my yorkie except shelmar kennels I leave worry free and at ease when I drop Bella off. Shelmar Kennels should be everyones #1 option when in need for training or boarding.

After the 3 week training at Shelmar Kennels, the improvement in Declan, our 65 lb. 9 month old lab/collie mix, was truly like night and day! We adopted him from a shelter, and unfortunately he came with a host of bad habits: pulling, turning and biting on the leash during walks; jumping up on the couch when we tried to relax; jumping on us for attention around the house; playing too roughly with our older dog; not listening when we tried to call or correct him.

We chose Shelmar Kennels for training because of their positive reviews, alongside Martin and Shelly's years of experience with training dogs. I'm so glad we did! Their training grounds are expansive and include a pond. We loved that Declan was both socialized with other dogs-in-training and taught to behave in a home. We checked in on him via email weekly, and Shelly replied with detailed updates on Declan's progress. On pick-up day it was truly like Declan had been hypnotized – same sweet puppy, but no more pulling, biting or jumping, and he was actually listening! Martin showed us how to communicate with him in a better way, both verbally and with our body language. When we got home, we noticed such a difference in Declan's house manners. Again, it was like he'd been hypnotized! No more jumping, constant need for attention, etc. When we would sit on the couch to watch tv, Declan would happily lay down beside us or keep himself busy with a toy.

Before we found Shelmar, we were beyond frustrated and beginning to feel like we couldn’t handle Declan’s quirks in the home and on walks, especially with our other animals. Now it’s such a good feeling to know that we can confidently keep this sweet dog and enjoy him without feeling overwhelmed. Knowing that we can always reach out to Martin and Shelly for support helps tremendously too! I would recommended training at Shelmar Kennels to anyone who's looking for a trainer who meets the dog where it's at, showing them how to behave without relying on constant treat bribery like other trainers. You can tell Martin and Shelly truly care about both the dog and the owners succeeding. I’ve been telling everyone I know about the "dog whisperers! "

I can not recommend Shelmar Kennels enough! Mr. Martin truly wants to see each animal thrive with their owner. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Demonstrates undeniable passion for the animal as well as ensuring effective training at his property and successful return back home. Also greatly appreciated his availability keeping in touch during and after the 3-wk training process. He had our five-month-old Brittany Spaniel. At pick up, he spent nearly 2 hours with our family (4 kids from 3 to 12 yrs old), walking through everything our dog had learned and how to implement for a successful transition back home.

We searched for a trainer that could assist us with our spirited Flat Coat Retriever. He was easily overstimulated and that caused troublesome issues on the leash and when meeting and greeting others. Martin and Shelly returned our dog with perfect leash manners and a much calmer disposition around people and other dogs. Best of all, they employed us with the skills needed to continue training Pete during a thorough lesson at pick up. They offer continued support if needed.
The best surprise was our dog earning the AKC Canine Good Citizen award while doing our checkout lesson. I was unaware of the test happening and at the end of demonstrating 10 skills in a row, we were presented with blue ribbon.
We recognize now how we contribute to our dog’s behavior and feel like we can have a calm and mannerly pup for years to come. Beautiful location! Lots of room for dogs to have fun and train.
Martin’s approach is straightforward and he will not mince words about how you are handling…kind but firm. This approach applies to his training methods as well. Highly recommend!
