SHSU School of Music reviews
1 Great people and staff that care about the students.
Dr. Pinell is such a caring and incredible violin professor. He will teach you new ways to approach playing the violin, change up your tone and all for the betterment of your own musicality.
Dr. Clifton is a patient theory teacher. He always stresses how he will gladly make time for you to meet your needs in office hours. I struggle with theory and I sometimes prefer working alone or with another student but it’s always reassuring to know that a professor will take your worries seriously and will make time to go over the material with you.
Dr. Aschauer is a musical genius, and although I’m musically defensive and often hesitant to try new things, he’s very driven and passionate about his musical ideas. He knows where he wants the music to go and doesn’t shy away from expressively showing it during rehearsals! He also is a great professor to have a musical conversation with. I look forward to more of those because they’re very helpful for my own growth.
Thank you to Dr. Caetano as well for giving great pointers and being an incredible piano professor with a lot of love for music and respect towards all musicians that he works with. I can tell he wants them all to be the best they can be.
And I’m also super grateful for Dr. Plugge for making time when I had worries to address. I’ve actually never had a professor email me WANTING to address concerns personally and offering support and help during an already hard time for so many people. I really appreciate the ‘above and beyond’ attitude of everyone at SHSU. No campus is perfect, but I can tell this school of music is really working at the foundation and doing it’s best to improve. Also, you really can’t beat the facilities! Amazing concert hall, great practice rooms, clean and very well designed.
Thanks to everyone! Happy to be here
