Siphon Coffee reviews
19Said I can use the internet even though i can't pay without using contactless payment. Which was either not posted or I'm blind. I can't connect but still good atmosphere sad I couldn't order a drink. Wish I could have made it into the connection.
Great place very friendly staff and really great coffee. The other items looked great I wish I would have tried the food.
Siphon's iced americano is fantastic. Whenever I'm visiting Houston, I'll go out of my way to pick one up in the morning.
Great spot to grab a coffee or breakfast (b'fast tacos are amazing!), drinks are generous and come in super cute earthernware mugs:) Has become my go-to in Houston to do some work not least because of the comfy seating and great Wifi. Staff are fun and freindly - their taste in music can be a bit camp / throwbacky but it's a vibe and I love it! Definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area or wants to get some work done in comfortable environs!
Excellent coffe shoppe. Large variety of espresso drinks. Delicious cereal milk which gives a nice flavour to drinks. Empanadas were well made. The chimichurri is a tad spicy so not truly authentic. Scone is quite crumbly but has a good flavour. Overall atmosphere is nice and cozy. Can't wait to go back again!
TL;DR Xenophobic and/or anti-masker staff, also inefficient and rude, manager is indifferent
My wife and I ordered a latte and an empanada. We were wearing masks as we always do at indoor crowded places. We showed a coupon of $5 which the staff said would be taken care of after we swipe.
Red flag 1: We were not offered a receipt.
Red flag 2: When getting the coffee, I noticed that I was the only person served warm coffee in a paper cup for a dine-in order - everyone else was served in porcelain cups. Lots of porcelain cups lying idle on top of their coffee machine.
Red flag 3: On asking for a porcelain cup, I was brusquely and unceremoniously handed a porcelain cup. Was I supposed to pour my latte from the paper cup into the porcelain cup and ruin the froth?
Red flag 4: They actually did not honor or apply the coupon as I found out later from my credit card charge.
Sent an e-mail to the manager, no reply in over 2 days.
Came here with several people for the first time. Ordered different drinks, cold brew, cereal latte, pumpkin affogato, Couple more. They were all awful. Every one of us threw away the drinks. They were either bland, sour espresso, or just bad aftertaste. Don't understand all the good reveiws
Good coffee and chai here. Great empanadas! Highly recommend them. They go well with a nice hot chai. I also tried the tacos that came recommend but was unfortunately not impressed. They were way too oily! My other gripe being that it tends to be full almost all the time and it's difficult to find a decent place to sit. But if you manage to go during an off peak time, it's a nice spot to have a coffee and relax. The staff are friendly and helpful.
This is not a bad review, but I had never been here and asked the person at the counter "I've never been here- What's your specialty? " She replied with "uh well, we have a lot of specialties. " So I just ordered a cafe americano. Now I find out on the internet you use some kind of unique siphon method to brew the coffee? Next time, lead with that! The cafe americano drink was okay, but maybe a siphon coffee would have been more interesting if you would have explained what makes you different
I can't say enough good things about this place.
A while ago I ordered delivery for my wife and asked them to add a message to the cup. They spiced it up and added real love to the message.
I had some issues with the order, called in, and the manager took the time to take care of me while her kids were in the room there with her.
When I went to eat in, the place was really nice, had a great vibe, and all sorts of people were there.
The food was delicious and interesting. They had great coffee but the food was surprisingly delicious and amazing. 10/10 recommend.
Friendly staff and great coffee. I got the oat milk lavender latte. The cashier suggested honey so I added that as well and it was delicious. I'll be back.
An unnamed woman worker here rolled her eyes, smirked, and wholly wrote me off when I approached her about an order that another customer took by mistake. I have been a patron of Siphon for many years now, and this experience has put a bad taste in my mouth.
Edit: They apologized by giving us gift cards. Thankful.
Used to be one of the only good places to get real espresso in Houston. Now it’s become an overcrowded and overpriced full fledged restaurant/bar. Coffee has gone way down in quality. Also, the cashier asks, “Do you want to leave a tip? ” I was going to before you asked me that. A tip is a private thing. Why have a touch screen monitor at the counter if you’re not going to use it? It’s weird being guilted into tipping. Definitely not returning to Siphon. Go to Southside instead.
Great atmosphere and the pumpkin spice latte was the best one I've ever had. Really quick to bring your drink to you. Only thing that I would say isn't the best is the lack of plugs for my laptop and the surfaces make it hard to write down stuff. This doesn't stop from 5 starts though
Decent coffee. But lukewarm. Server gave me the dregs then called for a fresh pot. Returned to the line to get the coffee replaced but long wait…
Pro tip: if you have to swap the pot don’t sell the remnants to a customer.
Lots of massless customers walking around. Meh.
Great coffee and empanadas, but they play the music full blast.its so loud that its like you are at a concert/club. Its hard to converse over the loud music or study. Maybe its my sensitive grandpa ears?
These guys are geniuses. I was on a dating app and was in the middle of being catfished and then this person kept telling me to go to your coffee shop. FYI i'm in Canada and it would be an expensive cup of coffee but i'll visit someday to laugh about it. Houston is a beautiful city!
Siphon brewing does indeed make a bright brew (medium roast, if you ask for the coffee straight). A little acidic, but definitely a fun brew to watch and a great place to chat with friends!
I’m a very picky coffee drinker and love trying different coffee shops and this was a very nice surprise. It would have been perfect if the latte had actually been hot but it was delicious anyhow. Only tried the blueberry and white chocolate scone and it felt homemade. Service was great. Place was packed and I ordered to go. I would have given it 5 stars if coffee had had the needed heat and if prices were not so ridiculously expensive. The Argentinian tiny empanada was more than $5 while a bigger and great one at Marinis Empanadas is only $3.35. I’ll be back for the coffee!
