Southern Dental at Spring Branch reviews
18 Poor communication. Unnecessary imaging. Money hungry.
I came in to get a filling replaced on a canine. I was a new patient so they required a full exam with panoramic xrays. I relied on their statement that they were only performing procedures covered by insurance. Dr. Lewis' practice charged me out of pocket for the panoramic xrays after I left the office since my insurance wouldn't pay. I emailed them as soon as I got the bill. No response. The "patient advocate" said she's not the office manager so can't do anything about it, but was going to send it to collections if I didn't pay.
Dr. Lewis didn't review any of the xrays with me so for all I know they weren't even interpreted. He said less than 5 words to me and my filling was done in < 15 minutes, which is fine during a pandemic, but my filling has been sensitive ever since and he didn't mention that I might have new sensitivity.
There are other little things like employees wearing masks under their chin and keeping open beverages at the front desk, which I can overlook. But overall, my experience at Dr. Lewis' practice is poor and would discourage you from coming here.
One star for Angie, the dental hygienist. She has excellent bedside manner and provides good education during her cleaning.
This was a very bad dental experience. I went in for a preventive cleaning for the first time. The only dental hygienist they have named Angie had no mask while examining the margins in my mouth. She came up with very high margin of 4,5 and 6. I have never had anyone poke in mouth so hard and come up with such high numbers in my life.
She and Dr Lewis then refused to do a preventive cleaning which I had prearranged. They gave my a referral to their periodontist for special treatment. I could not believe the way I was treated.
Six days later I went to another another dentist in Memorial for a second opinion. Their exam had much different results!
No measurements of 5 and 6.only 2,3 and one 4. They sent my home with a great cleaning and exam and said I required no periodontal work.
Say no more.
For many years I did not have a regular dentist. Dr. Lewis, Angie, the hygenist, and the entire staff at Spring Branch are great. I now go for regular cleanings and check ups.
Will edit this review very soon. Just had an extraction less than 24 hours ago. So far very good results with exception of some pain today which is to be expected. The procedure itself went too smooth and the staff were extremely friendly. Can’t wait to return to this dental office. LoL
I went here for a second opinion after being told I needed a root canal. They made sure they checked everything and it turned out I didn’t need a root canal just some gum treatment. They we’re thorough and weren’t trying to charge me for anything they didn’t need too! And very nice!
The dentist and assistants are very nice. The office staff charges extra fees that do not match the insurance copays.
All the staff had a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I didnt get the awful vibe that anyone hated their job, like you do most places nowadays. Everyone was super friendly, communicative, and made my scary root canal procedure relatively easy!
Dr Lewis was very professional as well as his staff. The offices were very clean and sanitized.
I went in August 2020 for a teeth cleaning. I had mixed feelings about the appointment.
1. The receptionist was very lax about covering her mouth with a mask.
2. The dental assistant told me to leave my purse in the chair while I went down the hall to have xrays. When I protested and requested to carry my purse, she told me that I should leave it there as there was no place to put it.
3. The dental hygienist did a very thorough cleaning but wore an old mask which only covered her mouth. She should have used a face shield but did not seem very concerned about hygiene.
4. The office seemed very concerned about my hygiene, less about theirs. For example, I had to gargle with hydrogen peroxide and wash my hands upon walking into the office.
5. The dentist did a very quick exam of my teeth, too quick.
6. They charge extra for oral cancer exam which has been standard in dental offices for a while.
Jessica, chris and angie, the staff are courteous and professional. Explained insurance and procedures 100%. All in all 100% satisfied customer.
Thuh best. Briana and Jessica, da bomb! But srsly, this dental office works like clockwork. Dr.here was the first dude to identify that my molar pain was due to excessive pressure due to bite geometry, ground down my tooth. Other pplz = ROOT CANAL! ; (
I won't go to the dentist unless I can see Doctor Michael Lewis. Is he available at the heights office?
Friendly staff painless cleaning. Staff was also very cautious with covid sanitation went above any beyond my expectations I will definitely continue getting dental work at this location. The hygienist that assisted me was very knowledgeable and polite.
New in town I found this Dental office through my Guardian plan and could not be more pleased. The hygienist was meticulous and friendly and the dentist was honest and not trying to upsale me on work I didn't need right away. The office is very sanitary and following every precaution for Covid19 to make patients feel safe. I'm glad I found them for when I need dental work and my routine cleanings.
This was my first time at this office and they were all very professional and super nice! I had my wisdom tooth removed and Doctor Dr. Michael Lewis was so gentle. I will recommend this clinic to all my friends.
Office looked very outdated. Things looked like they were all cramped all over. There was a bad odor by the XRAY machine. Doctor spent very little time on the go.
My wife Whitney Allen has been going to this dentist for about 4-5 years. Great staff and trustworthy dentist. I can truly say ethics and honesty is important to them. They do their best to help you, and try to work w/ you on the financial side of things. Dentist does great work. Never a long wait either for her.
I trust Dr. Lewis and have seen him on and off for many years. He just gets better and better. Angie as well -> when she cleans my teeth they always feel AMAZING.
I have tried other places, but
Spring Branch Southern Dental is GREAT.
