Just got back from 3-week boarding/training. Too early for a thorough review, but we’re well pleased with Scout’s calmer demeanor, and especially pleased with the training Joseph gave us on being calmer, more mindful, and consistent leaders.

If I could give Joseph six stars I would! We have had an all around fantastic experience with in-home training for our 4 month old lab. Joseph has taught us how to interact with our puppy to teach him and improve his behavior. He is clearly driven to know all he can about canine behavior. At the same time he is empathetic with us and our young daughters, helping them with the dog too. His service is easy to book through an online portal which I appreciate very much.

Took my 9 month old 110lb Great Dane to Joe for a training session, 3 week board and train, and also post training boarding when I have gone out of town. Joe is super patient with both the dog and owner, he explains the dogs behavior and how what you do impacts that. He leaves the dogs personality in tact but instills all the great qualities of a well trained dog into them! Every time I take her to Joe she comes back happy, healthy, and her training reinforced. I have used the skills he has taught me to ensure her and my
Older Dane are the best they can be and have seen a positive change in both dogs!

Joseph is like the dog whisperer and maybe also the human whisperer. The very first session he had my 2 year old pup behaving in a way I've never seen before and had frankly accepted as a lost cause. Joseph goes at the right pace for you and the dog to not overload you but make steady progress each week. And his approach provides a true structural change you and your dog (but mostly you) can continue on after you leave unlike other trainers. Would recommend to anyone with a rambunctious pup like mine!

I signed up my Schnoodle and Bichon with Starr Dog Behavior for a three week training - based solely on (great) yelp reviews. The reviews (thankfully) were spot on. Joseph really knows what he is doing and helped me and my dogs tremendously. I only wish I’d enlisted his help years earlier. It’s an investment but it is definitely worth it!

Millie went to Joseph when she was 9 months old. She was a bit of a mess - anxious and full of energy she didn't (or us) know what to do with it! Joseph did a FANTASTIC job - she is fully crate trained and more important, we know what to do to to prevent her anxiety. He has given Millie, and us, the tools to keep her behavior in check. We have continued to work with Joseph to improve and reinforce. He knows exactly what to do - he truly understands dogs and the psychology behind training. Millie loves Joseph!

Seems to understand dogs on a deep level. However, comes off very condescending and abrasive. He lectured me on how I can’t control my 4 month old puppy and at one point called my dog a nuisance. I’m okay hearing the hard, unalduterated truth but there is no need to be rude when I’m paying $180 per hour. I’m paying for solutions. I literally reached out for help so I don’t need someone talking down to me. Also, he cursed several times for no apparent reason while trying to make his point. He just came off as quite unprofessional so I can’t trust my dog with him even though I believe he understands canine mentality well.

Joseph has been working with our German Shepherd since 2022 and has completely changed the fundamentals of our relationship with our dog Hiro. We had issues with leash reactivity and insecurity/anxiety and the techniques Joseph has taught us to use on walks have improved our daily lives and made us better dog owners. Hiro is significantly more relaxed and confident, and we will continue to seek Joseph’s services and expert advice in the future!

I am so grateful that I stumbled upon Starr Dog Behavior when looking for a trainer for my then 6 month old Cavapoo, Bailey. She was adopted and her background mixed with lack of structure at home created a fear reactive pup. I initially started off with a few in-home lessons which made a noticeable difference and taught me how my behavior affects my pups.

Rather than finding a Rover sitter when I had a few trips back to back planned, I reached out and asked if Joseph would be open to do a board and train, which he so kindly worked around my schedule and accommodated my dates. I looked forward to seeing the updates on Instagram throughout the weeks and appreciated how great he was with taking care of her, even when she had a few things going on that required a vet check.

When training was complete, Joseph took over two hours to go through everything Bailey learned at training and more importantly what I need to do to continue to set her up for success. Since then, I have noticed a big difference in her behavior at home and she is walking much better on the leash. I’ve had a follow up and will continue on with a few more training sessions to perfect the walk and go over what I could be doing better. I feel like I’m getting just as much of a lesson as Bailey.

I would recommend Starr Dog Behavior to anyone in the area looking for someone to not only help train their dog, but also teach a shift in mindset when it comes to how your behavior affects your dogs behavior! He takes the time to explain everything and wants to see you succeed. Our sessions never feel rushed and he is so generous with time. He truly is the dog whisperer!

I did the board and train for my 5 month old mini golden doodle and got a totally different dog! Joseph does a great job training not just the dog but the human so that the training never stops. I even have my dog walker learning from him. I highly recommend if you want to kick off your pup on the right paw or just have a dog that's out of control.

We struggled for the longest with gaining control of our dog while on walks. We tried treats, harnesses, stopping and going, etc. Joseph with Starr Dog showed me how to use his training leash technique via facetime and already I’m seeing a difference after just one week. Finally starting to enjoy walks with my sweet fur ball!

Highly recommend Joseph! He’s well versed and very knowledgeable in the dog world. Took our very rambunctious, stubborn Rottie, Zeus to him. Glad to say that we noticed a HUGE difference within the first month of getting him back. He no longer tries to drag us on the leash when walking, and definitely has “mellowed” out significantly since his return. We can’t thank Joseph and his expertise enough. Will definitely recommend him to any of our friends just looking to get a little more stability out of their pup, or just over all obedience training. He’s the guy!

I can't say enough good things about Joey and his approach to training. My dog had developed leash aggression to the point where I was very nervous about walking him and Joey agreed to help us. After just 1 session I've seen such a huge improvement. He not only taught us both (he trains the human and the dog) the proper way to walk but he aligned us on the right mindset in-home and outside. I'm so thankful for this healthier relationship with my dog thanks to Happy Paws/Starr Dog Behavior
