State of Grace, Houston TX

I love the atmosphere and ambiance of this restaurant. I was disappointed my filet (medium plus) was a bit overcooked, charred, and on the dry side. The side of fries were good. My boyfriend ordered the chops and they were served warm not hot. We ordered oysters, I wish they would have explained the the different sauces but they were good! We probably wouldn’t go for the food but definitely for the oysters and drinks!

Menu is inconsistent. We went there expecting to explore the menu's delicious items. However, we were disappointed. Whatever you see on Google, ignore it. They won't even have it. Like the items liked in the recommendation list of this review. Ha! We ended up just going with the hush puppies and eggplant (both absolutely delicious) and a scallop order. Although we wanted a 23$ scallop order, we somehow ended up with the 45$ version. But it's ok. Because our waiters were Amazing. I really wanted to give a large tip but something 45$ wouldn't allow me to.

Free ginger sandwich cookies. But it was too sweet for us.

Overall, it was an experience.

Our first dining experience in Houston and we couldn’t have asked for a better meal & service! Food was absolutely delicious. Jacob & Chris at the bar were super helpful and gave fantastic recommendations. Thank you State of Grace, we’ll be back!

Pictured: Texas squash, dinner rolls, farm peppers, pansotti, and filet. The bread was to die for! And the pansotti is one of our favorite dishes, absolutely incredible but only offered on the summer menu so get it while it’s hot! Filet was perfect and had great flavor.

Amazing food and great service. Went here with a group for a birthday dinner, and everything we tried was amazing.
Recommend the octopus app and the venetian rice. The scallops were amazing, but only 4 to a plate for an entrée.
The place is dimly lit at night, which I guess is part of the atmosphere, but it made it hard for me to see, and I was strained a bit.

My husband and I recently came here for a date night. I was excited as I came here with girlfriends in May and everything from service to food was amazing.

Unfortunately my last experience here wasn’t so great. I decided to order the same pasta as my previous visit as it was delicious. When I received the dish, it was unfortunately something completely different as the last time. My food was heavy, bland, and coated and baked in breadcrumbs, which it wasn’t before. When I asked our server about this, his response was “oh well sometimes the kitchen changes up the dishes based on season”. It was obvious I didn’t like my food, but didn’t want to be rude and send it away. I was hoping he would offer to change it out but never did. So disappointing, especially for what’s supposed to be a nice restaurant.

A fantastic upscale dining experience with exceptional atmosphere and an attentive welcoming staff. The red fish is not to be missed and highly recommended. I want to reiterate how exemplary the staff was for our visit as we entertained visitors from Germany.

I've been to fine dining where the price far outweighs the service and quality; however, I can confidently say you get what you pay for here.

Pretty standard great food. Only thing is the price, which I think is still a bit high even for its bougie location. Regardless, the food is always great there, and the service is friendly. Brunch is always fun and if you go early enough it's almost empty.

A la carte restaurant specializing in seafood with an emphasis on oysters! There are some rooms, bar, osteria and main hall. The bread they offer as a starter is divine, the portions are not very big, so if you're hungry, take more than one option. From starter to dessert it was delicious.

We always have such a pleasurable experience here. Mario has served us twice and is extremely knowledgeable and personable. Both times, he made sure we had a flawless dining experience. Colby has also served us and was such a great server. Also extremely knowledgeable and knows how to pair you with the perfect cocktail. Both posses a great amount of professionalism and exceeded our expectations. It’s rare to come across such great hospitality these days but State of Grace really has it together! For the food, if you’re going for brunch, you MUST try the Shashuka! It’s definitely shareable and can easily feed two people. Beignets and cinnamon rolls are perfection for those who have a sweet tooth! Dinner, everything we had was amazing. Cacio e Pepe was mouthwatering, Redfish was delectable, Shrimp Cocktail was the best we’ve had in a while but I have dreams about their Pecan Ball dessert. OMGGGG it should be outlawed for being so delicious! Hands down one of our fave spots to dine. Every experience is a delight. Don’t forget to ask for their complimentary ginger snap cream pies when walking out the door!

So this place never disappoints and we’ve been coming over a year and it’s one of my top 3 restaurants in Houston! My favorite thing is the attention to detail when it comes to the marriage of ingredients to make some of the most amazing tasting dishes. The chef has carefully placed a unique spin to some of the classic home cooked dishes while respecting and honoring the culture and roots of each dish. After having the cheesy grits I said the chef must be from Alabama because that first bite took me back when I ate some cheesy grits in Alabama. The ambiance is classy, southern and cozy and you are always greeted like family and on your way out a delightful ginger Whoopi pie is offered for Free! Who does that in Houston? Manager George is so personable and the entire staff is awesome!
