Although service is a little slow, the quality of the sushi here is well worth it.a real hidden gem for sushi in Chinatown.

Everything is fresh, love all the sauces, love the presentation. Best sushi I ever had! And really nice chef and server. Thank you!

Beat sushi I ever had, the only real issue is the wait. Lines are long and you'll need to come early to be able to get in and out relatively fast. Otherwise you'll be standing around for a while.

Relatively speaking, this is a home-style restaurant served with authentic Japanese food. Its sushi and sashimi are especially delicious. Since the restaurant owner is a retired Japanese couple, so the business hours is kind of limited and the wait for food is a bit longer. The atmosphere is very relaxed and cozy, btw, It has one table with tatami dine-in setting

Incredible sushi. It isn't open for very long but it's only two people running the whole place, and you can really tell the care and talent that goes into every piece.

We ordered the aged tofu and the sushi/maki combo for $65…. The quality of fish was lower than groceries…. Portion of rice in each sushi was way too much and it wasn’t even sushi rice…. Just regular bad quality rice. People running the place are polite but I don’t understand how people recommend this place….

Be prepared to wait for some of the best sushi in your life. This is truly a hidden gem in all of Houston.

Amazing food and excellent value. The fish was wonder and the portions are quite generous. It is a husband and wife team that literally do everything. So, be prepared for it to take some time. They are working hard for you, but it is not a fast meal. They also only have a few tables so get there early if you want in. We were there at 11: 45 and got the last table. We left around 1: 45. Like I said, it takes a while, but it is well worth it if you have the time and know what you are getting in to.

We will be back for sure.

Sushi miyagi is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. It is run by a Japanese couple who do everything themselves, so the hours are limited and the wait can be long. However, the quality of the food is exceptional. Some of my favorites are the salmon sushi, escolar sushi, spicy hotate sushi, tamago sashimi (the best!), shaggy dog roll, and spider roll. I have also liked their chirashi bowl, miso soup, chicken karaage, and pork katsu. My friends like their sweetie creamy roll, tofu, salmon roll, yellow tail sushi, udon soup and curry rice. They serve by the table, even if you plan on taking to-go. If you plan on visiting, come as soon as it opens, as there will already be a line outside the door!

Truly stellar! Best sushi in Houston BY FAR.

Open only for lunch. Small with maybe 6 tables. Better arrive at 11: 45am (before they open and line up) or get there at 12: 45pm when the first seatings are done.

Huge menu for the location (makes me wonder how they manage) with decent lunch options.

I was told (not sure though) that the lady serving is the wife of the owner (who is preparing the food). I do not know if that's true but she reminded me of my time in Japan (the "we tolerate gaijin but remember you-are-and-will-always-be-a-gaijin" attitude + the Japanese "fake" smile that foreigners fall for thinking "oh the Japanese are so polite).

But we were not there to make new friends. We were there to eat. And, eat we did. Ordered 3 items off of the lunch menu (sushi lunch, Unaju Lunch (eel over rice) and maki lunch) + the Sushi Deluxe and the fried squid. Food was truly great. My guess is that the rice is koshihikari and very well sesoned. Fish was very fresh and melt in your mouth. The sushi was prepared very well: decent cuts of seafood over reasonable ball of rice (not too big and not too small - just right!). My nihon-jin friend (who was visiting from Japan) said: "this rivals Tokyo" with half the prices.

I would drive from the other side of Houston to come back and eat here. Outstanding!

Initially, I thought this a place that needs to be on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, but then again I am not sure the staff could accommodate such growth. So for now, let's keep it our little secret!

This restaurant is a real gem, owned by a wonderful couple and serving authentic Japanese dishes. We sampled different things from the menu and loved every single bite.

OK, so the good stuff- price and quantity. However, this is not Kata and this is not Uchi which means the fish is not as delicate and there are no additions to elevate the flavors. We went there for lunch, and this is a good place for locals to grab lunch with generous portions. The server there was kind enough to remove the eel from the sushi lunch even though it does say no substitutions on the menu.

Food: Food was pretty solid. I got the Pork Katsu, which was very hearty with two cutlets, while my Dad got the Chirashu lunch, which had a 6-piece roll and 5 pieces of sushi. Food was tasty and fresh.

Service: Service was stretched thin. There was space for ~20 seated patrons in the restaurant but only one waitperson and one sushi chef who doubled as front of house. She was apologetic of the wait but I really hope Sushi Miyagi hires more waitstaff / chefs. Even a friendly waitstaff can’t overcome the 1.5 hour wait times for food.

Atmosphere: The restaurant was quaint and our table featured a cool fish poster incorporated into the table. The waiting area was very limited, with us noticing several groups lefts due to a long wait time and no space to sit.

Value: Entrees were right under $20/ entree, which is mid-range for Japanese restaurants.

So why the 2-star review? Sushi Miyagi had extremely long wait times - we arrived around 11: 40 and were seated around 12: 15. We ordered pretty quickly but got our food almost an hour later at 1: 15.

This is the best sushi in Houston. The fish quality here cannot be met by other places. This place is truly a gem and not to be missed. The long wait times are absolutely worth it. Come half-hungry, it will be a while before you get some food.

Though the wait may be long at times, the food is very very good and the owners work hard to deliver the best quality.

NOTE: My friend and I came in on Thursday at 12: 30 but was informed that it would be a two hour wait for food so we came on Friday at 11: 40 (there were already two people waiting in front of us and by 11: 50, there was a line of 15 people). If you want to be seated right away, I would strongly recommend arriving at the latest 11: 45. On other weekdays (besides Friday) and the weekend, you might get away with arriving around 11: 50/12 but the earlier the better because the inside isn’t very big.

Review: This is a hole in the wall restaurant ran by an older Japanese couple. The husband is the one making/assembling all the sushi and sashimi while the wife is tirelessly taking and running orders. My friend and I ordered the Agedashi Tofu, Spicy Salmon Roll, and the Sushi Lunch Combo. Everything tasted amazing and fresh here. The agedashi tofu was perfectly fried and the sauce was delicious. The sushi was just as amazing - the fish pieces were thick so I appreciate the fact that they didn’t skimp on that unlike many other sushi restaurants.

The interior was also super cute, full of Japanese decor and knick knacks. I was also able to talk to the owners a little bit and they are super sweet and hardworking. It was so nice being able to support a small local Japanese business. Japanese people are hard to come by in general so it was heartwarming to finally be able to converse with Japanese folks besides my family members.

Overall, I absolutely loved it here and will be coming back!
とても美味しかったです。ごちそうさまでした!
